The Kingmaker System-Chapter 417 - 416. The Pawn To Be Used (1)
Chapter 417: 416. The Pawn To Be Used (1)
"Reina Aurelius, she is the one who is capable of this." My Grandfather announced.
There was a moment of pin drop silence before Duke Aurelius and Rune exploded.
"What?!"
"Why would you want Reina to do something like that?!"
Grandfather glanced at me ignoring my father’s and brother’s reactions.
"What might you be thinking, Marquis? As far as I’ve heard, the Young Miss of Aurelia has a weak constitution and she hasn’t even shown her face in almost any of the events for years." Earl Clive spoke up.
"Precisely," Count Wallace said, "and you expect such a person to make an impact to balance both sides? How is that even possible?"
I could understand why Count Wallace was so irked about this suggestion, within this time that I asked Reina had been keeping myself away, I had also made a point to visit Brielle sometimes and we wrote letters to each other often. I was almost the same age as his daughter and his fatherly instincts must have extended towards me.
Viscount Langland who had been quiet for a while seemed to have a reaction at my Grandfather’s suggestion. He had a frown on his face, he had been listening a while but I think this was the point that he decided to talk.
"Besides, what are you going to do if the Golden Serpent decided to use Princess Aurelius after you have made her do the part?" He asked with the chilling edge to his voice.
"We all know the Queen is capable of doing anything just to make her son the King," he pointed out, "What will you do if she demands that Princess Aurelius should be engaged to Prince Carlos and use Duke Aurelius?"
The men in the room gasped, while the three Underworld Lords seemed to ponder over this point.
"He has a valid point, Master. The Young Princess might become a pawn for the Golden Serpent, if we used her in this plan." Count Wallace said.
"We shouldn’t force the Young Miss with this, Marquis. I don’t agree with this suggestion, Master." Count Greene.
"I also disagree with this!" My father spoke firmly.
"I disagree as well." Rune spoke.
This was a veto all of a sudden, so, I turned my eyes on those who hadn’t voted yet.
"A young Miss who has always stayed out of the people’s eyes and had weak constitution." Zach pondered.
"There is already a great mystery around Princess Reina and most of the people don’t ever know anything about her except for the fact that she is extremely beautiful and has a quiet grace to her." Lord Devil aka Baron Oberon mused.
"You two aren’t thinking that it’s a good idea, are you?" Count Wallace asked the two Lords and Zach smirked.
"Why, yes! It sounds intriguing, a young Lady who is so mysterious, if she steps up and does the publicity for Prince Eric then she could be used with minimal risks." Zach said.
"Didn’t you hear what Viscount Langland spoke a while ago? Princess Reina could be exploited by the Golden Serpent!" Count Wallace chided.
"She wouldn’t be exploited that easily, Count." Baron Oberon pointed out, "She’s not just anyone’s daughter. She’s the Young Princess of Aurelius family, her older brother is the war Hero who has a good reputation and he’s also Prince Eric’s closest friend. So, even the Golden Serpent would think twice before trying to use the Princess."
"So, with that said, I agree with Marquis Fairisles’ suggestion!" Zach announced with a smile.
"I agree too." Baron Oberon.
"Come to think of it, Duke Aurelius, you are also closely related to Master so, even if the Golden Serpent did try something then Master is capable of diverting it." Earl Clive, "If he can force her to execute her family member and partner then he is very well capable of protecting people from her. I agree with His Excellency’s suggestion as well."
The other five who had already disagreed to the suggestion were aghast looking at the other four now there were only two who could decide to be the tie-breakers. Silas and myself.
Silas looked at me as if trying to discern my thoughts.
"What do you think, Master and Archmage?" Count Wallace asked.
"You don’t agree with this, right?" Father asked.
"I hope you think carefully before you decide." Langland spoke.
"It’s a good idea," Zach said leaning back in his seat with a smile.
Oberon eyed me and Silas curiously while Father’s expression was tensed.
"I..." Silas opened his mouth, "I think Reina is capable of this,"
My father’s jaw hit the ground while Rune almost rose to his feet.
"I trust in her capabilities and intelligence... I agree with th suggestion." Silas announced making this a strong tie of five agreements and five disagreements.
The ten eyes at once then turned on me as my decision would decide whether Marquis Fairisles’ decision would be put to action or not.
Grandfather had a neutral expression while my father and brother were concerned, the others were tensed except for the two Lords and Silas.
I hummed and looked at the chess game before I used telekinesis to push the white Queen ahead making it shove away the black Queen and fall off the game.
Zach grinned and Baron Oberon smiled as it was almost symbolic as to what I meant.
"I agree with this suggestion." I announced verbally making the five disagreed individuals stare at me, bewildered.
"But, Master, the young Miss-" Count Wallace gasped.
"I’ll take care of her." I spoke raising my hand.
"Reina!" My father shouted looking at me, "I mean, I’d ask for Marquis Ryujin and others to keep my daughter out of this!"
"I agree that you are capable of protecting yo- my sister, but I still wouldn’t want her to be anywhere near the Golden Serpent or her son." Rune spoke through his teeth.
I could see their concern but couldn’t make sense about whether they were overestimating the Golden Serpent or underestimating me.
"Are you underestimating Marquis Ryujin and your own daughter, Duke?" My Grandfather asked steepling his fingers before his face.
"Even after everything that you have seen?" Silas asked fixing my brother and my father with an icy stare.
"That’s my daughter." My father sneered and the temperature around the hall dropped like a heavy metal ball and everyone’s breaths turned into smoke.
"My daughter will not be used as a pawn at any cost!"
"All right," I spoke making Grandfather frown and Silas to narrow his eyes.
"Eh? But-" Zach pouted.
I raised my hand to silence him and spoke up, "Young Miss Reina is Duke Aurelius’ daughter, so, if he disagrees to her involvement then nobody could force them."
Count Wallace, Count Greene and Viscount Langland seemed relieved at my announcement while my own father and brother seemed to have doubts. Well, I wouldn’t blame them, they were well aware of my tendency of saying one thing and doing something else as per my own accord.
And to be honest, it was impossible to keep Reina out of this matter since I was already so deeply involved in this.
Grandfather sighed deeply and even Silas grunted softly as they finally seemed to accept it, at least on surface level.
"Let’s move on to the next step then," I spoke changing the topic.
It was quite rare for my father to stand so firmly about something, he might be meel when it came to other things but he had this strength which reared its head whenever the things came up to Rune and me. At that time, my father would show the unprecedented power that could also take the Golden Serpent down. It was quite a prideful moment to see him standing straight at that time.
The meeting went on for a longer time than I had calculated but I was able to get my instructions across and assigned the tasks to the present members. One by one they started leaving, though Zach and Lord Devil were reluctant.
"Why don’t we have some drinks, Master?" Zach suggested.
"We would drink in moderation and won’t be as wasted as last time, Master." Lord Devil said.
Count Wallace who had been there gripped the back of their collars with a stern expression.
"Master has announced that no drinking would be allowed from that point so, don’t even bring it up and return back to your homes!" He dragged them away after a bow to me.
Grandfather stepped up to me after them, though his face was blank, his icy eyes spoke volumes. He was serious when he suggested my involvement into this as Reina.
I gave him a subtle nod with a smile, "I’ll see you some other time, Your Excellency."
He nodded before he turned on his heels and left, Silas watched him leave before he looked at me.
"Roan," I spoke and stretched my hand to him, he handed me the bundle of papers that he had been holding for the whole time.
"Here," I handed them to Silas who frowned a bit.
"What’s this?" He asked.
"It’s the evaluation time for the Mages of the Tower, right? This one is my proposal." I smiled and he looked at the bundle of papers before he nodded.
"Don’t overdo it," he spoke before he turned and left.
I then turned to the ones left, my father and brother.
"Would you like to have lunch with me?" I asked them.
"You’re not going to do anything that would turn the Golden Serpent’s attention on you, Reina." My father spoke firmly and I sighed.
"I know you will do it regardless of what you said back there, but just so you know, we both are against it." Rune announced crossing his arms at his chest.
"If the fear is regarding the fact that the Golden Serpent could try and engage Reina and Carlos then, I will solve it." I said making them both frown.
"We’ll announce that the Young Miss of Aurelia is already engaged." I announced and heard the sound of something crashing outside.
