Chapter 54: Catch Up. (2)

The sun shone in the sky bathing the village with its warm light.

Birds sang cheerfully composing a symphony that harmonized with the wind currents whistling through the tree branches.

In the village, there were already people starting to work in the morning, the village was being rebuilt little by little.

The most destroyed houses were completely demolished and rebuilt from the foundations, while the less destroyed houses were repaired.

Much of the village had already been rebuilt.

The roads, even some plants were already blooming in the gardens.

While the village had gone through a hard time, it was recovering little by little, and would soon regain its former splendor.

"I see you’ve made quite a lot of progress," Lloyd said while analyzing his surroundings.

The fresh air caressed his cheeks and filled his lungs, filling him with a relaxing sensation.

A floral smell filled his nostrils, without doubt it was a relaxing walk.

"Well, 27 days have passed since you finished the trial, though we really started somewhat later," Sköll affirmed calmly, walking beside Lloyd.

It was true, even if 27 days had passed since Lloyd was left "resting," it didn’t mean the beast-men were going to start rebuilding the village from the beginning.

They would also have to recover and receive medical assistance if they wanted to be in shape, after all they had come out of an arduous battle.

"Yes, the truth is it’s impressive how quickly you’ve recovered, and also the speed at which you’re rebuilding the village," Lloyd commented impressed.

Meanwhile, Alice walked calmly beside Lloyd without saying much, she just observed in silence.

Sköll nodded energetically at Lloyd’s words.

"Yes! The truth is people were very excited after managing to defeat the assassin guild, and also you completing the trial boosted their spirits," Sköll affirmed with joy.

Lloyd nodded.

That made sense.

While it was true that the assassin guild’s massacre had surely caused them many traumas, they were now recovering hope.

Lucia and Notos were taking care of rescuing the other beast-men who had been captured and sold.

The beast-men who had fallen in the assassin guild’s attack had been avenged.

Now the only thing left was to rebuild the village, and things would return to how they were before.

Of course, that tragedy would leave a dent in the Fenrir tribe’s morale and history for a long time, but the beast-men couldn’t remain stuck in the past, they had to move forward.

"Oh! That reminds me, in the end you did turn out to be the chosen one right? I guess I have a good nose hehehe," Sköll laughed while smiling with pride.

Lloyd nodded.

Though remembering his experience in the temple, facing Siegfried’s trial, wasn’t too pleasant, Lloyd had to admit it was worth it.

The boy had received the hero’s mark, a shining silver tattoo located on his chest, at heart level.

Lloyd didn’t know what power that mark would grant him, however he remembered the system was offering to consume that mark.

However, Lloyd wasn’t sure what to do.

He didn’t know Siegfried’s ability, and he supposed it wasn’t his ability to manipulate ice, since that was magic.

However, there was a clue about the mark’s possible power: Gleipnir.

That mythic rank artifact was described as an artifact created by Siegfried himself.

Was his ability to create artifacts?

Lloyd didn’t know, but without doubt he wouldn’t make a decision before knowing what he could be losing.

The system also hadn’t given him clues about what it would give him in exchange for the mark, and Lloyd didn’t want to have to risk like that.

While the system always recommended the best option, it could also be manipulating him, so becoming too dependent on the system, or obeying it too much, could be imprudent.

"Oh! That reminds me, how was the trial you faced!? Was it very difficult!? Was it epic?" Sköll asked with stars in her eyes while looking at Lloyd expecting a surprise.

Sköll would be lying if she said she wasn’t interested in what was in the trial.

Not only because the girl was very curious or energetic, also because she loved listening to stories.

She always listened to her grandpa’s stories, though unfortunately she could no longer hear one more story from him, since he had passed away.

Lloyd took a deep breath, reflecting internally on how many details he should give.

Stating that he had died and resurrected multiple times could be shocking and worry Sköll too much.

Perhaps the best option was not to give too many details.

"Mmmm, well let’s say it was much more difficult than expected, but in the end I found the way to pass the trial," the boy commented calmly.

The air kept blowing, and the warm sun rays caressed the boy’s skin as the sun rose higher and higher.

Sköll looked at Lloyd with disappointment, she expected something more impactful.

"Just that? Couldn’t you give more details? I thought it would be something more epic," the beast-woman admitted with clear disappointment in her voice and expression.

Lloyd sighed.

He wanted to refrain from telling too many details.

His first idea was to give an excuse and delay his story.

He could argue he was too tired to talk now.

It was a valid argument, after all he was "resting" for 27 days and had just woken up, so it was a valid argument.

However the problem was if she insisted in the future, evasive maneuvers wouldn’t work forever.

Of course, there was always a possibility Sköll would forget about the matter, but it was more likely that wouldn’t be the case.

So that’s why Lloyd decided on his strategy of giving few details.

"Well let’s say I faced a knight with ice powers and had to defeat him," the boy answered calmly.

Sköll didn’t seem satisfied with that answer, however it seemed sufficient for now.

"Oh!? Has Lloyd awakened?" a voice then said.

It was one of the beast-men, apparently someone had noticed him.

"Yes it’s him! He’s finally awakened!" another voice said.

Lloyd raised an eyebrow.

Did they expect him to wake up that much?

He thought they would be concentrated on more important things, like rebuilding the city.

"Really? Well what are you waiting for? Everyone go thank him for everything he’s done!" a last voice said.

In a few instants, Lloyd was surrounded by several beast-men.
