SSS Demon King System: The Rise of a Dying Extra-Chapter 53: Catch Up. (1)
Someone knocked on the door, while Lloyd was checking the mirror of vainglory.
Upon hearing someone knocking on the door, the boy looked at it, seeing how it was starting to open.
Suddenly a girl peeked in, she had hair golden as sun rays, and two wolf ears along with a fluffy tail.
Lloyd didn’t have to reflect too much to know who it was.
It was Sköll.
"Mmm, I wonder if Alice has snuck into Lloyd’s bed again, I’m going to have to scol... Huh?" The girl stopped speaking when she realized someone was watching her.
Lloyd had awakened.
A face of surprise was reflected in her expression, her ears tensed and her fur stood on end.
"Umm... Hello?" Lloyd said, trying to start a conversation, however Sköll remained paralyzed a moment longer.
Lloyd tilted his head, wondering if she was alright, but then, she finally moved.
"Lloyd! You finally woke up," the girl exclaimed while running toward him.
Lloyd was slightly startled seeing her approach, however Sköll only stretched her arms and hugged the boy, while tears fell from her eyes.
The boy was surprised, he didn’t expect that reaction from Sköll, and simply stayed there, without moving.
"Mmm, did something happen?" the young man asked somewhat confused.
Sköll pulled away a bit, wiping the tears from her eyes while responding.
"Of course something happened! You didn’t wake up for 27 days! Everyone was very worried," she exclaimed with indignation.
Lloyd’s eyes opened wide.
27 days? That was a long time, too long.
The boy felt his insides churn thinking about it, as if that idea gave him vertigo.
If he had really lost 27 days "sleeping," it meant he had lost the opportunity to complete missions, or get V.P.
Though that anguish vanished in a few instants, he couldn’t allow himself to be so demanding of himself.
Siegfried’s trial had been extremely difficult and had demanded a lot of him both physically and mentally.
And the rewards received after that trial were completely worth it.
Therefore it wasn’t wise to be upset only for having slept 27 days, it wasn’t that much time in perspective.
"Mmmm," a voice then said.
Lloyd saw a lump grow in his bed, and then, Alice emerged, who with a tired expression looked at Lloyd.
Upon seeing him, the tiredness seemed to disappear in an instant. She opened her eyes with surprise, and then hugged Lloyd tightly.
"Hehehe, it seems you missed me too," Lloyd said with a nervous laugh.
Apparently both Sköll and Alice had worried about him.
That reaction from them generated a warm sensation he had never experienced before, but it wasn’t unpleasant.
The boy smiled while slowly caressing Alice’s head.
"Of course I missed you! We all did, you can’t be in a coma for 27 days and expect the rest of us not to worry," Sköll responded with clear indignation.
Though those words rather than bother Lloyd caused him some amusement.
He stretched his hand and calmly caressed the girl’s head.
"You’re right, I’ll be more careful next time, sorry for worrying you," Lloyd said with a soft smile.
In response to that gesture, Sköll’s cheeks turned red, she seemed embarrassed.
However, her tail started moving from side to side, betraying that she didn’t dislike that gesture from Lloyd.
"D-don’t think I was worried about you or anything like that, okay!? I’m just letting you know what others felt," Sköll then exclaimed, with some embarrassment.
Lloyd couldn’t help but smile a little hearing that response, but didn’t mock Sköll for now.
"Alright, I’ll keep that in mind," the raven-haired boy responded.
Sköll nodded embarrassed.
"Yes, you better!" she exclaimed, though her face was already red as a tomato.
Lloyd laughed softly at that amusing reaction, but regained the conversation’s seriousness immediately.
"Well and tell me, in all this time I’ve been asleep, what has happened?" Lloyd asked calmly.
Almost a month had passed since he had managed to pass the temple’s trial.
Siegfried’s trial.
Without doubt the most difficult trial Lloyd had had to face both in that world and on Earth.
Just thinking about how difficult it was gave Lloyd chills.
In his mind certain deaths he had lived were still engraved, painful and quite traumatizing.
It was quite painful to remember those deaths, at that moment Lloyd hadn’t realized the gravity of "having died," but with the perspective of now he realized how serious the matter was.
However Lloyd didn’t want to dwell too much on those memories either.
They were water under the bridge and any attempt to remember those events was useless unless it was to analyze his combat tactics and mistakes made, because certainly in that trial Lloyd had gained quite a lot of combat experience.
While Lloyd reflected, Sköll responded.
"Well since you were asleep, we decided to stay here and start rebuilding the village while we waited for you to wake up," Sköll said calmly while her tail moved happily. "You could say we were busy while waiting for your return."
Lloyd nodded, while observing how the clear sunlight illuminated the room passing through a rounded window.
That made sense, if he was out of combat, the most logical thing was to start with repairs to their village.
If Lucia returned with the rescued slaves, it was best they return to a rebuilt home rather than Conrad’s fort.
It would surely be much better for their recovery, since living through the village’s destruction and then being enslaved was an experience that would obviously leave the Fenrir tribe members traumatized.
However if they returned to a completely rebuilt home, or at least partially repaired, the tribe members’ recovery would be easier.
Lloyd sighed and stretched in bed.
"Well, you did a good job in my absence," Lloyd said while getting rid of his heavy tiredness.
Sköll smiled at those words, with a certain degree of emotion and pride.
"Of course we did! Would you like me to show you the village?" Sköll asked with a smile.
Lloyd nodded.
"That would be fantastic," the boy responded calmly.
It was time to exploit the advances of the village’s reconstruction.
