Spirit's Ascension-Chapter 107-initial danger
Instead of seeing Laura at the entrance, Cole saw a scar-faced man standing there with his face illuminated by the moonlight.
"Guard leader," he muttered.
"I finally found you bastard kids," the guard leader said with his eyes locked on Cole.
"You really cost me some energy."
Cole’s mind was racing at that moment, thinking of what to do or an escape plan, and he heard Bryan’s voice in his mind.
"Leave as fast as possible; we will handle him."
Cole turned to bryan in shock; obviously, he doesn’t seem convinced by his words.
"oh no there’s no need; we will handle him together."
Linda was already privy to their conversation; it was obvious that Bryan had also initiated the spiritual connection with her.
"Guys, this seems like bad news, but it is something we can handle."
The Scarface man didn’t waste time on words anymore; instead, he dashed straight into the room with his hand stretched, aiming directly at Cole. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"You are the most annoying of them."
Thankfully, Cole was ready enough, using all the strength he had, and he sprung forward, ready to intercept the attack.
But Linda was much faster than he was; she had immediately arrived in front of the guard and sent a flaming slash aimed at his chest.
The scar-faced man was obviously shocked; he wasn’t expecting such a level of ferocity from mere children, but his experience worked in his favor.
He crossed his hands in front of his chest to block the attack.
DING! A metallic sound rang out as the attack hit his arm.
"You don’t think you can hurt me, do you," he said smugly.
"I wasn’t planning to," Linda said with a smile.
Minutes before the scar-faced man initiated the attack, the team had already made a decision using Bryan’s ability.
"We can’t afford to fight here; let’s try our best to escape," Cole said to the others.
"But before that we need to get him away from the entrance."
It was now obvious that Linda’s previous attack was to do just that, and now the entrance was wide open.
Seeing the opportunity, Linda was the first to burst out of the room with Bryan following closely behind her.
Cole alone stayed in the room to cover the back and hold the man down.
"Go, I will do something," Cole shouted at Bryan, who seemed hesitant to leave.
Bryan was slightly skeptical, but seeing the confidence in Cole’s eyes, he decided to leave.
"Are you trying to be a hero, kid?" the scar-faced man said to Cole.
Cole, on the other hand, didn’t bother responding; he only smiled as lightning sparks started enshrouding his body.
"An attack from lightning should be enough to keep him here for a bit," Cole thought.
Linda’s earlier attack was to serve two purposes, the first being to free the entrance and the second being to test the man’s strength.
From what Cole had observed from the attack, he knew the man was still Dormant-level spirited.
With a flash of Lightning, Cole appeared in front of the man and sent a punch heading straight for his head.
The attack was so fast the man could only widen his eyes and couldn’t even move to resist.
Bam!
The punch hit squarely, resulting in lightning transferring to the man, causing him some numbness despite being unconscious.
"Overconfidence," Cole muttered while he left.
He had already deactivated Lightning coat while he sprinted to follow behind his teammates.
"Cole, we are here," Cole suddenly heard the moment he got to the entrance.
Cole forced himself to stop as he looked at the side. Never would he have expected them to wait here.
"What are you guys doing here?" Cole asked.
"It is obvious you could take care of that man, so we just waited, and also Laura had no idea this happened, so she might still head here."
Cole was speechless. He just couldn’t believe his teammates would behave so carelessly.
"That man is unconscious, right?" Bryan asked.
"Yeah, and he should be out for a while," Cole replied.
"It must be really hard on rogue Spiriters."
"Reaching the peak of Dormant-level but having no idea how to advance."
The others also nodded in acceptance. This made Cole feel a little thankful in his chest.
"Thankfully, I decided to attend the academy, or else I would be in the same shoes now," He said.
At that moment, Cole’s mind quickly went to something he had been noticing for a while, but he just always forgot to speak about it.
"Where do you keep your sword?" He asked Linda.
Linda was taken aback by his question. It just sounds too random.
"It is in my spatial pocket; that’s all I will be saying," Linda replied.
Cole looked at Bryan expecting some sort of explanation from him, but Bryan just looked away, intentionally avoiding his gaze.
The trio didn’t wait outside too long before they saw Laura’s approaching figure.
She had already spotted them and looked quite shocked to see them out there.
"Why are you guys here?" She asked.
"The guard leader of the settlement came looking for us," Cole said.
Laura stepped back in fear as if she wanted to escape there as soon as possible.
"Relax, he had already been taken care of," Cole continued.
Laura’s eyes displayed a little shock, but she quickly composed herself.
"Alright then, let’s head over," she said while looking up at Cole’s room in fear.
The group didn’t waste time and followed Laura back in the direction she came.
Linda and Bryan looked slightly anxious since this would be their first time heading into the slums underground, but Cole just remained calm.
They walked for a while until they arrived at a hidden hatch, which they entered to access the underground.
In the underground, Linda and Bryan looked around curiously, but Laura didn’t give them the time to satisfy that curiosity; she just moved forward and continued leading them.
About twenty minutes later, they reached an isolated region of the underground before stopping.
"We are here," Laura sent gently.
