Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 138: White-robed monastic order
Qie Xieling’s gaze darted from one fascinating creature to another as he made his way through the bustling streets. There were elves with pointed ears, their graceful movements captivating him. There were dwarves with their sturdy frames and long beards, going about their daily business with purpose. And then there were creatures he had never seen before. They were ethereal beings with wings, their presence adding an air of enchantment to the already magical city.
But as Qie Xieling ventured further into the heart of the city, his ravenous stomach reminded him of his immediate need for food. His eyes landed on a breakfast stall, and his mouth began to water at the sight of sizzling sausages and golden pancakes. He couldn’t resist the temptation any longer.
Lost in a daze, Qie Xieling approached the stall, completely oblivious to the curious onlookers around him. His tar-covered body drew stares and whispers from the passersby, but he paid no attention.
All that mattered to him at that moment was satisfying his hunger. He stood there, entranced by the mouth-watering aromas and the sizzling sounds of the food being cooked right before his eyes. It was as if time stood still, and there was nothing in the world but him and the tantalizing display of breakfast delights.
It wasn’t until he heard giggles and felt a tap on his shoulder that Qie Xieling snapped out of his reverie. He turned to find a group of girls pointing at his tar-covered body, their eyes wide with amusement.
Blushing with embarrassment, Qie Xieling quickly realised that he must have looked like a complete mess. But instead of feeling self-conscious, he couldn’t help but laugh along with the girls. After all, he had just survived a near-death experience and stumbled into a magical city.
A little bit of tar on his body was the least of his worries. With newfound confidence, Qie Xieling stepped forward, ready to immerse himself in the wonders of this mythical city and embrace whatever adventures it had in store for him.
Well, it seemed he spoke too soon because he heard screams and a man shouting. When he looked up he saw a group of men clad in white shoving a couple and their child to the ground.
Standing behind them was their leader looking down at the couple with disgust. This was the same white-robed monastic order that drown the drunk Eling the previous night.
"Shit," mumbled Qie Xieling as he hastily ducked into the alley before they noticed him.
He was even covered in tar making him very noticeable. Qie Xieling ran down the street despite all his pain. He couldn’t let himself be caught now otherwise his friends would die with him.
While he was running around the corner his face was suddenly struck by someone. Qie Xieling instantly saw stars and collapsed to the ground.
Before he could even make sense of what had just happened he was dragged into a room and the door was closed shut. A few white-robed men appeared out of thin air around the area he had just been now.
Panic-stricken, Qie Xieling was about to fight for his life. Just when he was about to make a raucous his mouth was sealed by a big hand and his arms suppressed. "You better keep your mouth shut," said a familiar yet unfamiliar voice.
Qie Xieling calmed down significantly with a great sense of relief. How could he not feel a sense of relief when that voice was a voice he could identify in a boisterous crowd?
A blue luminous circle formed in the narrow street and the leader with a peculiar sigil on his forehead stepped out. The symbol and his eyes turned white like snow as he scanned around the buildings looking for Eling.
Qie Xieling might have managed to run away but his presence didn’t go unnoticed. After intimidating the man working at the breakfast stall they found out a man covered in tar from head to toe had indeed come by but he left before he could even order breakfast.
Qie Xieling heard someone in the room mutter an incarnation and the room was suddenly surrounded by an invisible barrier.
The monastic order leader furrowed his brows before turning to the man beside him. "Go check the tar pool. If his body isn’t in it then have the entire monastic order looking for him," he said and the man vanished into thin air.
After his eyes scanned the building one more time, he gave up and vanished alongside his subordinates. "They are gone," said a groggy voice belonging to a woman.
"Luminate," she said and the entire room lit up.
Qie Xieling could finally see their faces and his eyes lit up for a moment. The problem was that when he saw the people’s expressions the light in his eyes dimmed.
They were looking at him with both resentment and anger with no trace of their previous affection. Bi Yu he could get but Bo Ailun? He couldn’t stand Bo Ailun looking at him that way.
He finally understood what Leong Jinn meant when he said that he will experience his friends staring at him like a stranger and with resentment.
He smiled self deprecatingly his heart aching so much he felt like he was going to die. It was as though his emotions were amplified with this game.
"Where is he?" she asked her tone impolite and domineering.
Qie Xieling didn’t answer fast enough and he paid the price thereof. His body was slammed against the wall and a suffocating pressure was wrapped around his neck making it very difficult to breathe. Qie Xieling grabbed his neck and tried to recall spells to free himself but his exhausted mind, body and soul put him at a disadvantage.
Seeing his lack of struggle, she withdrew her attack fearing he would die without him telling her where her fiance was.
Qie Xieling didn’t even have the willpower to stay awake. How was this a game he was supposed to win? It was obviously a murder sentence. Qie Xieling hadn’t cried in a very long time but right now he couldn’t hold back. He hadn’t suffered such injustice before in his entire life and it was very painful.
Tears flowed from the corner of his eyes as he stared at the beams of the old building. This was too much for him and he wasn’t certain that he would be able to pull through.
