Chapter 139: Side mission

Qie Xieling’s body gave in. In his haze, he vaguely remembered seeing Boran helping him up and pouring some bitter liquid into his mouth. He hated the taste but he knew he was in no position to bargain. All he recalled was that he felt warm all over and comfortable.

He slowly slipped into an endless fluffy cloud with all his pain gone. Just when he thought he could stay here forever, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his side. When he opened his eyes he found that Boran was poking him awake.

For a moment he thought that they were back in his condo thus he mumbled, "Bobo, let me sleep a little longer."

After he said that he was suddenly kicked off the bed and he fell to the ground with a thud. He heard a ringing sound in his ears as he lay on the wooden floor. "You have no right to call me that ever!" yelled Boran.

His name in the game world was Boran, also known as Bobo to his friends. He was half a breed between a regular human and a member of the Ragnar tribe. Unlike other humans, the Ragnar tribe were tall, black-haired and green eyed barbarians with a reputation as monster slayers.

Qie Xieling sat up holding his waist in grievance while staring at Bo Ailun’s character design.

In real life, Qie Xieling was taller than Bo Ailun but here he was standing there looking down at him. He was obviously twice his size.

Qie Xieling snorted and Boran who was already agitated pointed at him and yelled, "Just let me kill him already. We can find his majesty by ourselves. We don’t need him."

"Calm yourself. I have already deployed Raven to find him but they haven’t gotten back to me. He is our only option for now."

Qie Xieling ignored the flushing warning sign for breaking the rules as he stared in the direction where the voice came from. It was obviously Bi Yu but in this game world she had a different name.

She was clad in an all-white dress her expression sullen and complexion haggard like she hadn’t slept well as she had lost someone dearest to her heart. Qie Xieling vaguely remembered calling whoever she was looking for her fiance.

If this person was who he thought it was Qie Xieling found it laughable. The way Luo Muchen was so indifferent to her in real life made him want to laugh at this ridiculous storyline.

"Attention host, you have a side mission," said the AI and Qie Xieling opened the message.

Side mission: Help Princess Yunning find her fiance. Failure to complete the mission will result in level two punishment_

Having read the side mission prompt in his mind, Qie Xieling was done wallowing in his misery. He turned to Yunning who was obviously the one in charge here and said, "I can find him but you have to feed me first. I am sta-."

Before he could even finish his word Boran kicked his cheek in anger and according to the storyline he had every right to.

They had been on an envoy carrying the dowry for the princess of Pergamon, one of the remaining kingdoms resisting the demi-god Yana’s invasion throughout the five kingdoms when they were ambushed.

At first, it seemed like they were fighting together but then Boran heard anguished wails coming from the soldiers. The dragon king had been stabbed and the person cut out his dragon heart scales. King Luo turned back and found a long blade made of valyrian steel, a blade he gifted Eling piercing his flesh. He suddenly transformed into his dragon state and flew up into the sky never to be seen again.

An hour later Qie Xieling was sitting in an inn eating roasted chicken with a half swollen face. Boran was sitting opposite him just staring at him with a pained expression.

"Just use the healing spell. Your face looks hideous," he said forgetting he was the one who did this to him. Qie Xieling grinned at him and Boran almost rolled his eyes. This man deserved no mercy but looking at him now he seemed so innocent.

Princess Yunning pulled down the hood of her cloak sensing an ominous premonition. They had travelled away from the city last night but this distance was not enough to evade the monastic order. When they wanted someone dead they would do whatever it takes to accomplish that. Using an arcane eye spell she created an invisible magical eye. The symbols from the tip of her middle finger down to her wrist lit up a glowing red colour as she cast the spell. Soon she could see everything around the small town.

The monastic order monks were already approaching the small town. One of the monastic order monks with a unique symbol on his forehead indicating his superior power felt something hovering in the air. He looked up and came face to face with a slight mirage in the sky. He smiled maliciously before whispering something as his hands made a gesture.

Sharp needles shot through the sky and struck the arcane eye. A grey wisp remained before it slowly dissipated.

Yunningmonastic fear her complexion pale like the needles had stabbed straight into her heart. She knew they weren’t powerful enough to stand up against the monastic order monks as their divine magic was much more powerful.

While she was worrying herself half to death, Qie Xieling was arguing with Boran intentionally annoying him half to death.

"... touch me one more time and I will behead you," said Boran holding up his greataxe. At a glance, it looked quite intimidating. It was a large, heavy battleaxe with a double-bladed head. If one was struck with it and didn’t die on the spot, their wounds wouldn’t heal unless with the aid of a powerful wizard or sorcerer.

"Oooo you are a big boy now and have the balls to gut your friend," he said with his lips stained by the greasy oil from the roasted chicken.

A flushing red panel appeared in his mind warning him not to break the rules. Qie Xieling wasn’t wrong though. Eling and Boran were close friends well that was before the whole betrayal thing.
