Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 119: "Lin Lin... do I mean anything to you?"
"... Is he really that mad at me? He doesn’t talk to me and today I wanted... I wanted to surprise him but he ran," said the voice coming through from the other side and Bo Ailun couldn’t help but feel helpless.
Who would have thought one day he would be a mediator between these two? He glanced at Qie Xieling lying down in the gaming capsule his expression like he was up to no good.
"He... he is not mad at you. He just um... he did something that can make you mad so he thought... You know what, I will tell you where he is tomorrow so you can resolve this. I will make sure he doesn’t bring his motorcycle, that way he will have nowhere else to run, okay?"
Luo Muchen rotated the ring on his thumb absentmindedly while replying, "En, thanks."
Bo Ailun cut the call and rushed back inside before entering the second gaming capsule. As soon as he logged in he heard, as expected Qie Xieling abusing high-ranking players in compulsory PK and his mouth wasn’t decent either. He was picking fights for no reason and they took the bait only to weep after dropping their equipment and coins.
"If they find out this is your dad’s game they will be so pissed," he said and Qie Xieling chuckled. Tonight these innocent people were suffering because somebody was running away from his problems.
Qie Xieling might have run all he wanted but his so-called problems caught up with him the very next day.
After his last class of the day, he was waiting for Bo Ailun to pick him up outside the department. His classmates were hanging around him chatting about some miscellaneous things when they noticed a very expensive sports car parked in the staff bay.
"Yo yo yo, which lecturer won the lottery? That doesn’t look like you can buy that with academic research money," said one guy striding over.
Qie Xieling felt one of them patting his shoulder and when he raised his head his brows creased. He didn’t want to be nosy but he couldn’t help himself considering that was the car he wanted.
"How much do you think it costs?" asked one of the guys and Qie Xieling walked over there admiring every inch of it.
"It’s more than you can imagine. Whoever owns this is definitely not buying it with a professor’s paycheck," he said only for someone to grab his arm and pull him close.
"You are right and I am not a professor either," said a familiar voice. The tone was deep but unexpectedly clean, and the words were clear and restrained, full of the magnetic allure of an adult man. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
Qie Xieling tried to free himself but Luo Muchen grasped his arm tighter while giving the boys a ’you can leave’ type of glare.
Those cowards ditched him. Well, at least that’s what was going on in Qie Xieling’s head. Luo Muchen pulled him into a half embrace while placing the key on his chest.
"You can take it out for a spin," he said his lips almost brushing against Qie Xieling’s ear.
Qie Xieling shook him off and this time Luo Muchen let him go but it was short-lived.
Before Qie Xieling could make sense of what was happening his back was pressed against the car door. It turns out Luo Muchen had backed him into a corner without him realising it.
His blood was flooding his brain at such a fast rate that he couldn’t focus for a moment. Luo Muchen placed his hand on the car blocking his path while saying, "I know you are still mad at me but let’s talk it out. We have been friends for way too long and we can’t let it end like this..."
Qie Xieling just looked at him and didn’t utter a single word making Luo Muchen even more nervous.
"Lin Lin... do I mean anything to you? " he said his words spoken straight from the heart. These past two years it was really hard and painful for him. The person he wanted to speak to so badly didn’t want to talk to him.
The last thing Qie Xieling said to him was ’fuck you’ and for two years no matter how many messages he wrote Qie Xieling didn’t respond to a single one. He was hurt, confused and frustrated.
Countless times he had thought of using a different phone number to trick him into answering his call but he feared it would only make things worse. But the pain of being ignored ate away at him every day.
His mother told him six more months and he would be able to go back with no worry about his safety but when he saw that picture of Qie Xieling with Lee Ya he knew he had to come back home. He dropped everything and came back but Qie Xieling wouldn’t even speak to him. It hurt so much like someone was slowly twisting a blade into his heart.
Qie Xieling heaved an internal sigh when Luo Muchen didn’t mention BagerZ. He took the key from his hand while saying, "I haven’t driven in a while and I might ruin your car."
Luo Muchen exhaled before saying, "It’s fine," trying to keep his voice steady.
"Okay, let’s go to my place and hash things out," said Qie Xieling before taking a step forward almost bumping into Luo Muchen’s lips.
He stepped aside and opened the car door but Luo Muchen remained rooted on the spot breathless. It took Qie Xieling starting the engine for him to come out of his stupor. He walked over to the other side and entered the car. When he sat down he realised Qie Xieling hadn’t put on his seat belt.
He couldn’t help but reach over to clip Qie Xieling’s seat belt for him, which was a subconscious action. But Qie Xieling suddenly dodged away from his outstretched hand and Luo Muchen’s heart practically shattered in his chest.
Qie Xieling noticed Luo Muchen’s crestfallen expression and raised an eyebrow. "What’s wrong?"
"N-nothing," Luo Muchen stammered, averting his gaze. Sure enough, Qie Xieling disliked him and they could no longer be as intimate as before.
