Chapter 294: Thrashing

Out of everyone within the recruiter camp that he wanted to face, Lina was not in the list.

During the training sessions in the past month, he had seen how easily she was able to handle the training. While others sweated, breathing heavily, she only had a few beads of sweat on her forehead.

While everyone else was completely drained by the training, to her, it was as if she had just done a few warmups, nothing much.

He was not really sure about the relationship that existed between Lina and Kate, before they joined the training camp, but he was sure, they were definitely not related.

But since the two of them were usually together, it was clear, they shared something in common. And from the previous fights, Evan was able to see that Lina was extremely good at fighting.

Among all the recruits that had fought today, she was the only one who had not been injured in the slightest during her previous 4 fights.

And to make matters worse, there was a grudge that existed between the two of them. A while ago, he had made his move, intending to subdue the two ladies.

In the end, not only did he fail, he was also embarrassed in front of the other recruits. And more than that, his brother had to spend the merits that he had accumulated over time, in order to save him, allowing him to come back to the training camp.

Now, facing her, he was not sure how he was supposed to deal with her. It was clear, he was not capable of beating her.

At the same time, it was embarrassing for him to admit defeat just a few rounds into the fight. His pride could not allow him to do that, and neither would his brother allow him to do it.

In the end, he could only grit his teeth, deciding to fight until the end. While already knowing that he was going to be defeated, he thought, as long as he was not defeated badly, it would not be that bad to his brother’s reputation.

The two got into the ring, and after Alex got out of the ring, he announced for the fight to begin.

Lina did not make a move, as she just eyed Evan, her thoughts unknown. But the coldness within her eyes was enough to be able to transmit what he was intending to do to Evan.

His body shuddered, as a few beads of cold sweat appeared on his back, as within just a few seconds, he felt his back already drenched in sweat.

Gulp!

As he gulped, he decided to make the first move. There was the option of continuing to stare at each other, until the end of 10 minutes, to see what would happen next, but who could tell?

Maybe, when he relaxed, Lina would suddenly launch an attack on him, catching him off guard. Therefore, he thought, it would be much better if he took the initiative.

This way, at least, he might be able to seize a chance. No matter how small it was, if he could gain a small advantage, he would definitely not give up on it.

Evan was already breathing hard when thinking about the fight. He looked at Lina, her posture relaxed, as if the fight had already been decided. Despite the frustrations in his heart, he began to move.

He circled her, trying to find an opening, but Lina did not follow. She stood still, watching him.

The moment that he went behind her, he immediately stepped in and threw a punch toward the back of her head. He thought, since she was underestimating him, he had to make her pay the price.

But just as the punch was about to connect, Lina shifted her body slightly, just enough to avoid it. Then, before his arm could pull back, her hand knocked it aside, leaving his chest open.

A punch was thrown before he could react.

Thud!

Her fist landed at once, with the impact pushing him back, but she followed without a pause. Another strike hit his chest, then a short punch to his ribs that forced a sharp breath out of him.

Evan tried to say something while throwing a hook, but Lina slipped past it and stepped in close. Her knee slammed into his stomach, bending his body forward.

Gah!

He took several steps back from the impact, as he felt as though he wanted to vomit everything that he had ate before the combat assessment began.

Still, he already understood, this fight, he had already lost. So, no matter how embarrassing it was, he decided to give in.

"I sur-" he tried to speak, his voice breaking as he struggled to breathe.

But unfortunately for him, before he could even finish speaking the second word, Lina had already closed in on him.

Her hand pressed down on his shoulder, holding him just long enough for another punch to land against his side. She moved extremely fast, to the extent that she did not give Evan a chance of breathing.

Just after the first strike, another followed, each hit coming before he could recover.

Evan staggered back, raising a hand halfway to stop her, while trying his best to speak, while catching his breath at the same time.

"I-"

Thud! 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦

Her fist hit his chest again, cutting him off. The force pushed him back another step, his words lost as the air left him.

He tried to step away, his body unsteady now, his arm lifting again in a weak attempt to signal surrender.

He understood, Lina was doing exactly the same thing that he had done to his previous opponent. If he continued engaging her, he would definitely be beaten to a half-death state.

At this point, the embarrassment that would come with him giving in had completely vanished from his mind. Instead, it was all replaced by anger and resentment, mixed with fear.

He had not expected that Lina would be this ruthless. Previously, when he faced Kate, due to a small difference between them, Kate was not able to do him much damage, at least, not as much as what Lina had already caused.

Unexpectedly, even though she was not the one that he had directly targeted, she seemed to be much more ruthless. Could it be that Kate had asked her to take revenge on him?

Regardless of the reason, he resented Lina and Kate, thinking, if there ever was a chance in the future, he would definitely take revenge.

But at the same time, he was afraid of Lina. The strength that she had demonstrated, it was not something that he could compete against.

It seemed, unless he had a method of dealing with her, it would be much better not to confront her in the future.

So, for now, he just wanted to create a gap between them, so that he could catch his breath, while admitting defeat.

Despite what he wanted, it was not as if Lina would allow him the chance. Within just a second, she closed the gap between them.

A punch struck his ribs, then another to his stomach that forced him down to one knee. His hand hit the ground as he struggled to stay up.

"Sto-"

A strike snapped his head to the side before the word could form.

Evan’s vision became blurry. He tried to raise both hands now, as a form of surrender. Since he could not say the words, then his actions would definitely be understood.

By now, he was not sure what Alex was doing. From the several attempts that he had made to surrender, Alex should have already understood his intention.

But why was it that he was not stopping the fight? Not just him, were the other higher ups not in the know of what has happening here?

They could clearly see that he was overwhelmed, and was trying to admit defeat. But with Lina not giving him the chance to do that, what could he do?

Could it be that they were really waiting for him to say all the words, so that they could stop the match? Still, since he could not say the words, at least, his actions could be easily understood by anyone.

No matter what he thought, it was just wishful thinking. Lina did not give him the chance at all. She was determined to beat him to an unrecognizable state.

Another hit landed on his chest, then a short blow to his side, each one stopping him from speaking, from breathing, from doing anything but endure.

Evan’s strength faded quickly under the steady blows. His body gave in, and he dropped fully to the ground.

Even then, Lina stepped in and struck him again, leaving no space for him to recover or for him to surrender.

Due to the intense beating that he received, eventually, Evan passed out from the pain that he endured.

Evan lay flat on the ring as Lina retreated, his body twisted slightly from the way he had fallen, one arm stretched out while the other rested close to his side, his fingers still half-curled as if they had tried to move even after his strength gave out.

His face showed the full weight of the beating. One side was swollen, while a thin line of blood ran from the corner of his mouth down along his jaw.

His lower lip was split, and dark bruises had already formed across his cheek and around his eye.

His breathing was uneven, his chest rising and falling with difficulty. At times it slowed, then picked up again, as if his body was struggling to settle after taking so many hits.

His clothes were out of place, creased and pulled from the constant impacts. Dust clung to the fabric, and faint marks spread across his chest and sides where the strikes had landed.

As soon as Alex announced that Lina was the winner, something unexpected happened.

Clap! Clap! Clap!
