Information to Mastery: Points Store System-Chapter 292: Dreams and Ambitions
Alex had been observing from the side, watching the fight, and he was quite amazed. He had not expected that the two combatants possessed quite some good skills.
But the one that surprised him the most was none other than Kate. At this moment, he had already made a plan in his mind.
Just by looking at Kate, he could tell that she was still in her teenage years. On the other hand, Evan seemed to be already in his twenties.
Despite the age difference, implying that there was a chance that Kate might have practiced for way less time, she still managed to deal with Evan.
What he currently valued the most was potential. With her like this, in the future, as long as she received proper training, she would be a formidable presence.
And the team that he was planning on forming required those with great potential. At least, it would make sure that the power of this new team would not fall behind the other three.
After the combat assessment, all the recruits that would be joining the organization would all be joining the Delta team.
The Delta team was for the rookies. It would only be disbanded when another batch of new recruits would be brought into the training camp.
During the time that they would be in the Delta team, they would focus mainly on training. But apart from that, they might be involved in some missions from time to time, so that they can grow familiar with the environment out there during missions.
And on the day that the team would be disbanded, that would be the time that the members of the team would be assigned to the other three teams, team Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie.
Those three teams were the main ones, but, of course, that was from the combat branch. With a total of three branches within Nexus, the support branch and intelligence branch also needed new members oftentimes.
The combat branch was the most risky branch of the three, as it involved combat from time to time. And it was not impossible for one or several members of several teams within that branch to end up dying during the mission.
So, the new recruits would need to make up for those numbers.
But at the same time, while the intelligence and the support branches did not need to involve themselves with combat, sometimes, they might be caught in the crossfire.
So, at times, members of those two branches end dying out while on duty, leading to the need for new members to join the two teams.
So, during the time that team Delta will be disbanded, those that had specialties, or were much more adept at skills for support or intelligence, they would be assigned to the other two branches.
Now, Alex was thinking, as long as he could get some good seeds from this batch of recruits, then another from the next batch, in just a few years, he could potentially lead his team to being the strongest within the combat branch.
As he was still deep in thought, he suddenly remembered that he was supposed to announce the winner. So, he quickly said, "For the first round of the Combat assessment, the winner is recruit number 17!"
According to the rules, each win would grant a person a total of three points. And, there were going to be a total of 5 fights for each person, implying that the maximum number of points that a person could earn was 15.
From this batch, the bottom 5 would be eliminated. For the recruits, there was no maximum limit of those being selected during the combat assessment.
But, it was more like a policy, in such a way that, the bottom five would be eliminated, which was something that made everyone fight, giving their all, without holding back, in order to earn the points.
With Kate winning her first fight, she had gained quite some advantage. As for Evan, having already lost one of his matches, he would have to do his best to win the remaining for matches.
And as he thought about this, Evan became frustrated. He was not sure how he was going to explain to his father, upon losing to someone younger than himself.
Due to the previous incident, involving him attacking Kate and Lina, he was scolded by his brother. And Evan knew that his brother had to spend a lot, using all of his merits in order to keep him in the recruit camp.
Evan’s brother was so angry, to the extent that he told him that, during the combat assessment, he would need to achieve a perfect score. If not, he would have to face punishment.
Just thinking about his brother punishing him, Evan felt a chill running down his spine. Therefore, he felt resentment towards Kate. If not for her, would he have to face his brother’s wrath?
Despite what he was thinking, he had to get out of the ring, so that he could rest. After all, all the matches were happening today.
This implied, while fighting, it was better to finish the fight as soon as possible. That way, one would have much more time to be able to rest, and more than that, they would avoid unnecessary injuries.
Kate did not linger in the ring, and quickly went back to sit beside Lina.
"That’s awesome! For a moment, I thought that you would lose against him." Lina commented as soon as Kate sat beside her.
"I guess I was just lucky?" Kate simply shrugged as she responded.
She did not think much about the fight, instead of, her mind was still occupied with something else. She was thinking about the superpowers.
Unfortunately, no matter how much she thought about it, it seemed that she could not find any answer to the questions that she had. Maybe, if she had a chance, she could ask Michael about it?
Still, she was not sure when they would be given the chance to contact others again. After all, after this combat assessment, there would be another segment of training, which has not yet been revealed.
While Kate was still deep in thought, Alex once again went on the ring, before calling the next two recruits that were going to fight against each other.
This time, both were male, and the fight was quite intense. The two were evenly matched, which was something that frustrated them.
It would have been better if they had faced each other during the final fight. But facing each other this early on, it would mean they would have a disadvantage during the later fights.
And, since this was the first fight, none of them had the intention of backing down. Losing three points could imply that they might end up being eliminated at the end of the combat assessment.
So, this fight progressed, until the 10 minutes given for each fight ended. And it was at that moment that Alex made the decision.
During the fight, there were several equipment that were used to monitor the two combatants. So, it was quite easy to be able to judge who was the one who had dealt the most damage.
While the two were evenly matched, it was not to the extent that there was no difference. It was just that, the margin that existed between the two of them wasn’t that big. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
With the statistics from the fight deciding who was the winner, the loser felt utterly downcast. The injuries that he had suffered were all for nought.
He felt quite regretful. If he had known that this would happen, he should have just conceded at the start of the match. That way, he could save himself from suffering injuries, and capitalize on the other four opponents that he would face later on.
While the two left the ring, the next one to go up was recruit number 18, Lina. She was up against another young lady, who was quite short in stature as compared to Lina, with her blonde hair tied into a high ponytail.
The moment that Alex allowed the fight to start, the blonde-haired young lady moved first, stepping in with a quick jab aimed at Lina’s face.
Even though she was not sure how skilled Lina was, she knew that she was strong. During the training, Lina was the one who had the easiest time as compared to the other recruits.
Additionally, with the performance by Kate, since the two were friends, it was clear that Lina would be just as skilled.
She thought, she had to seize the advantage of striking first, and see if there was a possibility of her earning 3 points.
The punch was fast, but Lina tilted her head, dodging it. Before the girl could pull back, Lina tapped her wrist and pushed it off line. The motion was light, yet it broke her balance.
Trying to recover, the blonde threw a low kick toward Lina’s leg. Lina lifted her foot to avoid it, then stepped in and struck with a straight punch into her guard, forcing her arms back.
The blonde gritted her teeth and swung a hook toward Lina’s side, but Lina turned her body. At the same time, she drove a short strike into the girl’s ribs.
The hit landed cleanly, making her body bend slightly as her breath caught.
Lina did not stop. She stepped closer and drove her knee into the girl’s stomach. The impact forced her down to one knee, her hand touching the ground to steady herself.
Still, she tried to stand and threw one more punch, slower and unsteady.
Lina caught her wrist mid-motion and twisted it hard enough to break her balance, forcing her down to the ground without force.
The girl struggled for a moment, then she realized that she could not deal with Lina. So, she quickly surrendered.
