His Toxic Addiction-Chapter 327: His Daughter.
Chapter 327: His Daughter.
Nicklaus’s hand on Arissa’s waist supported her to keep her steady in her movement. He has spent a lot of time with her to understand when she fakes her strong facade to be strong and when she really is.
He felt power leaving her body the moment he opened the ward door. Though her facade remained strong on the outside, he could tell she was crumbling on the inside.
Arissa felt support from the hold on her waist. She turned to Nicklaus in surprise and when she did, his eyes were also on her. Their gaze tangled and they communicated through their gaze.
He gave her a go-ahead smile when she said a well-appreciated thank you through her gaze. She sincerely felt grateful for his existence.
Laura and Beatrice who were involved in a conversation paused when the couple walked in. They were catching up from where they stopped before they drifted apart and Laura was careful not to spill news that would wostern Beatrice’s health.
Arissa blinked multiple times when she saw Beatrice smiling with her mother. Her fist clenched tightly at her side and she felt like tearing her hypocritical mother apart.
How could she manage to smile at the woman she caused so much damage for no reason?
Laura paused and turned to her daughter, staring at her intensely, Arissa replied to her stare with a glare. Arissa boiled from her inside as her hate towards the woman before hesherew.
She feared for Beatrice’s health. Had it not been for Beatrice’s health, she would have spilled the whole covered-up secret but Beatrice’s health was on the way and she wanted to break the news to Adele first.
Stephan took notice of the glare Arissa passed over to her mother. His calculating eyes passed over to Nicklaus and back to Arissa again but by the time he would give Arissa a second glance, he was stunned to see a small smile on her lips.
He was sure he saw her glaring at Laura. It was no ordinary glare that could be wiped away in seconds but a heated one filled with resentment that came from the heart. So how fast was she able to cover the glare with a smile?
Meanwhile, when Nicklaus noticed Stephen taking notice of the small acts between mother and daughter, he gently squeezed his wife’s hand and Arissa immediately understood the message he sent. Not wasting a second, she turned her glare into a soft smile, causing Laura to stiffen in her seat.
Arissa smiles hunted her. She felt more better when her daughter glared at her than smiled at her. She can’t stand her daughter masking her intentions before her.
Stephen felt the tension between mother and daughter. He watched as the couple walked over to the couch and sat down.
Nicklaus did not say anything to anyone but just surveyed the ward with his hawk eyes like he owned the place. His eyes fell on Beatrice and she gave him a very soft smile.
Unlike the last time, she smiled at him without getting a reaction in return, this time Nicklaus gave her a small nod of acknowledgment. He squeezed Arissa’s palm in his when he felt more strong negative emotions slipping out of her.
"Nick," Arissa whispered when he squeezed her hand that way, "I can’t stand her," freewebnøvel.coɱ
Nicklaus nodded in understanding. He brought her hand in his to his lips and kissed her hand without his eyes leaving the corners of the ward he surveyed.
"You have to endure her," he whispered back into her palm and placed another kiss on it before taking it off his lips.
Nicklaus met Stephen’s gaze and with an understanding nod exchanged between both men, they excused themselves outside to have a moment.
"I saw the news," Stephen said the moment he closed the door behind him.
Nicklaus was taken aback by Stephen’s sudden words. He never expected Stephen to be this calm and even let his wife smile with the mastermind after knowing the whole truth.
In his heart, he paid respect to Stephen but his expression remained straight and his reply was, "I expected that,"
To be honest, he expected Stephen to have seen the news. He just had doubts lingering around his mind recently due to the man’s calmness and now, the man just confirmed that his suspicions were true.
Stephen tried to peep into the ward but since the window hole curtain was closed, he was unable to see through and turned back to Nicklaus.
"I never expected her to be the one who stole my child for the last twenty-eight years now," Stephen said, his voice broken beyond repair with tears at the corner of his eyes.
"Does your wife know about this?"
Stephen shook his head, "She doesn’t. Her health isn’t completely stable yet. I can’t tell her anything now and thank you for being thoughtful enough to keep the news away even though you knew about it from the beginning,"
Nicklaus crossed his arms over his chest, "It was my wife doing. I wouldn’t have known you if not for her. Her worries had me search for Adele’s parents and I found you both," he said politely.
"Adele!" Stephen tasted his daughter’s name on his lips for the first time and his tears rolled down his face, "Can I see her?"
Nicklaus pondered, "Where would you tell your wife you’re going? Also, we can’t leave your wife alone with Laura unless you’d permit it. She’s still as dangerous as her husband." he pointed out.
"Arissa is in there," Stephen said.
Nicklaus chuckled, "Right now, my wife is so uncomfortable in there and I won’t walk into that elevator without her. Well, I can assign a guard to watch over your wife and your guest." he emphasized in his last words.
Stephen shut his eyes for a split second and nodded, "I’m fine with that. Beatrice would ask why but I’ll explain when I’m back. Just lead me to my daughter, I can’t wait anymore," he begged.
