Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower-Chapter 52: Edward
Chapter 52: Chapter 52: Edward
The shelves were filled with food. The cellar was at least 5 times bigger than the storage room.
Canned meat, canned fruit, canned vegetables.
To Ivy’s surprise, only those three types of things were found, which made her wonder if Patrick received the news late or just got lucky and had, by chance, hoarded these supplies.
Either way, it would be better if this food ends up in her hands. She waved her hand, but the food didn’t get stored.
Instead, she received a message,
[Insufficient space. Please upgrade to the store.]
Ivy sighed. Truly, when things go well, a variable always appears.
Taking a deep breath, she said, "Alright. I will get enough to upgrade the space."
The messages stopped, and Ivy came out of the cellar. She locked it and looked at Patrick, who was looking at her expectantly.
Ivy, with leisurely pace, brought him a water in glass and Patrick’s eyes lit up.
He thought that Ivy felt pity for him or she must have been impressed enough to let him go; however, Ivy’s further action completely enraged him.
Instead of giving him water, she dropped it on the floor and commanded,
"Lick it."
"What?" Patrick couldn’t believe his words. He had honestly told Ivy about his supplies’ location, and this was how she was repaying him?
"I said lick it, or just remain thirsty. I don’t care if you live or die anyway." Ivy’s indifferent tone irked Patrick, but he knew that showing his rage now was only equivalent to being foolish.
Without glancing at him, Ivy left the apartment. She was planning to increase the kb to 100 within the next 3 days.
After all, by then Patrick will... anyway, she doesn’t plan to return there later.
With that thought, Ivy took out 2 bags of basmasti rice and 2 chocolate bars before knocking on Aunt June’s door.
Soon, the door was opened by Aunt June. Seeing Ivy standing outside the door, she frowned and asked,
"Did something happen? Did your parents abuse you again? Are you finally ready to take action against them?"
Hearing her concerned-filled voice’s Ivy’s heart warmed and she smiled,
"Nothing, it was just, I saw these two bags of rice and chocolate bars outside your apartment and decided to hand them in case they get stolen."
"Huh?" Aunt June was stunned before accepting it, muttering, "Maybe George had brought them for me. Anyways, thank you for the reminder."
[Ding! Aunt June is grateful for your help. You have earned 20kb! Current balance: 66.7 kb]
Ivy turned to leave, but Aunt June stopped her,
"Have you eaten something? I have made your favorite shrimp dumplings."
Ivu shook her head, before saying softly, "No, I am fully."
Then, before Aunt June could continue to insist, Ivy ran away.
In the apocalypse, asking for food was equivalent to asking for flesh and blood. But here Aunt June was... still the kind lady who gave all her love to Ivy without any hesitation.
It made Ivy remember her parents, and for a moment, she felt sorrow consume her heart.
Where were they? Do they have enough to eat?
The more Ivy thought, the heavier her heart felt. Having no choice, she decided to ignore the pain and continue to leave food for others.
Aunt June wasn’t the only one who had helped her. There were a few who had helped her in her previous life.
Now was the correct time to repay them.
The room was quiet. A bulky figure sat on the floor, surrounded by empty boxes and containers. His name was Edward. He flipped a plastic jar upside down, shaking it hard. Only a bit of dust fell out.
"Not even one grain of rice..." he whispered, his voice tired and full of worry.
Behind him, a little girl with big brown eyes was watching him carefully. She held her small hands together and asked, "Daddy... did you find anything to eat?"
Edward turned quickly and forced a smile.
"Oh, sweetie. I’m trying to make a magic dish today. But I need some special ingredients. That’s why it’s taking longer."
The girl blinked. "But I don’t want a magic dish, Daddy. Just a normal one is fine."
Edward’s smile froze. His eyes filled with tears, but he didn’t let them fall. He gently patted her head.
"It’s okay, darling. I’ll go find the ingredients right now. You stay here and wait for me, okay?"
She nodded and sat down, hugging her doll tightly.
Edward stood up slowly and walked toward the door. His heart was heavy.
The truth was, he had already gone to many places, but nobody was willing to sell him food anymore.
One man even laughed and said, "Asking for food now is like asking for my own flesh!"
Edward clenched his fists. He had to do something, anything. Even one packet of rice would help.
Just as he reached for the door handle, the doorbell rang.
Ding-dong.
Edward paused. "Who could it be?" he muttered.
He opened the door and froze.
Standing outside was a girl with soft pink hair that flowed gently in the breeze. Her calm face showed no emotion, but her eyes were steady and strong.
"Ivy..." Edward whispered.
Yes, he knew her. Years ago, when Ivy was a teen, he had reported her parents to the police after seeing bruises and hearing yelling from their house.
He had told Ivy to be brave, to stand up for herself.
But back then, the Ravencroft family had fooled her completely. Ivy had yelled at him and said he should mind his own business.
She had even defended her parents.
Since then, Edward never spoke to her again. He only watched from afar. Still, he couldn’t ignore her.
Whenever he saw her hungry or cold, he would secretly leave food near her door. Sometimes she would eat the food, sometimes she wouldn’t.
However, he did his duty every single time.
Now, that same Ivy was standing outside his home. He was confused.
"Do you need something?" He asked.
