Daddy CEO's Beloved Wife-Chapter 595: The End
One month later…
Guo Yun sat behind his desk, a towering stack of papers lay beside him. His face was pale, and dark circles painted the spot under his eyes, looking more haggard than he ever did for the past few years.
An employee walked into his corner and knocked on the door.
Guo Yun was too lazy to raise his head from the document he was reading, feeling like dying would be much easier than dealing with any of these papers.
"Secretary Guo?" the employee tried to catch his attention again.
Holding a hand up, Guo Yun read the paper carefully to let not a single mistake escape from his watch. When he was finally done, he said, "What is it?"
The employee replied, but before placing something down with a resounding thud that shook the desk.
"These are the reports from one of our retail companies. They need to be reviewed and signed urgently."
Guo Yun finally raised his head. He looked at yet another thick stack of paper that somehow found a temporary home on his desk. He looked up slowly, speechless and stunned, and only to see the employee offering him a meek and relatable smile.
"I bid you good luck, Secretary Guo. Ah—right. I forgot I shouldn't call you that anymore. The employee cleared his throat, "Good luck, Vice President Guo."
With that, the man got out of the office with a whistle.
Once the employee left, Guo Yun let his head rest on his palms, elbows resting on the small space left of his desk for personal use.
Rubbing his face against his palms, Guo Yun glared at the computer in front of him, as if blaming it for his suffering.
On the screen, a photo of a family of three was displayed.
It was a photo of Ran Xueyi, Song Yu Han, and Little Zhanzhan, smiling happily in front of the camera.
Then, he turned to look at the office he now owned.
If he could go back six days, he would definitely reject that promotion without hesitation.
Six days ago, Song Yu Han announced he was going on a vacation with his family. However, the company can't go without its boss, and so, he had decided to give Guo Yun a promotion.
Guo Yun didn't refuse, thinking that his friend and boss needed to spend more time with his wife and son. Besides, he didn't get the position willy-nilly. This position had been offered to him for the past few years, but Guo Yun held off on the promotion to take care of Song Yu Han's orders outside his duties as a simple company secretary. He let a trustworthy old man take the position for the time being. And he could take it at any moment's notice.
This time, he felt that he could finally take the promotion.
However, he did not expect Song Yu Han's sudden announcement.
An indefinite trip and stepping back from the company's daily operation.
"I'll still be overseeing major decisions," Song Yu Han said, as if he weren't putting a huge burden on him. "But until I come back, Guo Yun will take over and help stabilize the company."
Just like that. Guo Yun had to deal with towering papers and incessant meetings.
Guo Yun squeezed his eyes shut, resenting Song Yu Han for leaving.
But honestly, after everything that had happened, Song Yu Han deserved more than a break.
Both he and Ran Xueyi deserved more than just a break.
…
The outside world had not remained quiet.
The aftermath of the cruise ship incident had been merciless.
No survivors have been found.
Not even a noise was made at its sudden disappearance.
Within the next twenty-four hours, multiple high-profile arrests were made. Politicians, tycoons, and members of the underworld who had been untouchable and impossible to link to terrible acts against humanity were dragged out of their homes in the middle of the night.
No one in the world could understand the sudden actions of the Interpol. This confused the world; however, no matter how they tried to investigate or ask around, the reasons were not publicized.
The media platforms that were supposed to report these on the daily news were silent. None had been taken seriously, or they were blocked.
However, it did not take long for someone to tip off independent journalists. Some of them were scorned and blacklisted by news agency giants.
A discovery of people who had been illegally abducted and stripped of their human rights came to light.
Each one of them stood on the streets, carrying banners and placards that screamed for justice. To give them a good answer after their sufferings.
They listed the names of those who have been taken, sold, and dead along with them. Those who were treated like animals and toyed with, describing the terror they experienced after months and years of being held captive.
Initially, it hadn't made enough noise. The police force came to take them down and not ruin the peace and order; they and their bosses wanted to hide the filth of the world.
But even with this counter, they did not succeed in quelling the rage and injustice these people suffered.
Instead, it only fuelled their wrath.
They revealed the names and statuses of the people who made their lives a nightmare.
Then, they gave light to the evidence they had on them against these monsters, prompting a quick investigation to prove whether they truly suffered.
Some internet police (regular people who do extensive research) decided to look into this matter. Even hackers took an interest in this and found several materials that coincided with the victims' testimonies.
Now, no one in the world could shut them up.
All the media conglomerates have to report it on TV. Some of them tried to censor the people involved, but they were quickly released by netizens and criticized these media companies, telling them to do their jobs right.
All those who were arrested were revealed to be included in the victims' lists of predators who made them all suffer.
And more are still being searched and revealed.
But it will still take time until justice is served.
On the other hand, the Cao family fell.
Old Patriarch Cao did not live after the ship had been wrecked.
The Cao family tried to look for him. But investigations uncovered decades of crimes tied directly to his name. Evidence piled up faster than their lawyers could try to clean his name.
Even the Cao family could not escape the burn. Those who shared the surname scrambled to distance themselves and hide, changing identities, fleeing abroad, or vanishing completely to stop the public from going after them.
As for Cao Yujin… she was never talked about. She simply disappeared. No one thought of her as everyone tried their best to save their own skin.
The living had to go on, after all.
Percy Voron disappeared as well.
Song Yu Han's men tried to look for him under the rubble and dead bodies that littered the ocean. But they did not find a trace of him. He was gone.
Song Yu Han did not pursue him. But it would be better if he didn't appear at all.
The tragedy on the cruise ship was labeled as a 'classified international security incident'.
Unofficially, the world moved on.
As one of the victims, Ran Xueyi tried to help other victims of the entire ordeal. She reached out to them, offering her help financially and emotionally to those who needed help. The victims needed time and more to move on. To get completely rid of their trauma.
She also came forward to voice her protest against the media's silence over the matter.
Instantly, her voice caught the world's attention.
Those who tried to cover it up could no longer do so. Song Yu Han supported Ran Xueyi in any way he could. He did not let any hidden powerful forces from targetting her or any of the victims. He even let it be known that he was the one who brought their dirty secrets to the open, daring anyone to confront him.
After a month, the world continued to raise questions.
But life still went on.
…
In another country at the beach.
The sky was painted in orange and soft pink as the sun was setting toward the horizon. Waves rolled as the water sparkled like a sea of tiny diamonds.
The sea breeze swept through her hair, lifting the strands that she brushed off her face.
Ran Xueyi looked at the setting sun.
The past month felt unreal.
There were still gaps in her memory. At the beginning, she thought it would be better for her to regain all of them. But now, she wasn't so sure.
Chasing after the memories nearly made her lose everything.
That's why she didn't want them back.
What she had now was so precious to her. She realized that the past no longer mattered. The present and the future are what she should be looking forward to.
Footsteps crunched softly behind her.
Warmth instantly spread through her back as arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her into a chest she knew better than her own heartbeat.
"How are you feeling?" Song Yu Han asked, his chin resting on the crook of her neck as he tried to ingest her scent into his memories.
Ran Xueyi leaned back into him, hands covering his and giving them a light squeeze.
For a moment, she didn't answer, letting the sound of the waves slap against the shore and the breeze drift over.
Then, her voice came out, light and soft.
"I feel…" she paused. "I feel like years have gone by."
Song Yu Han tightened his hold of her. He hummed in understanding, agreeing with her.
"And yet," she continued, leaning her cheek against his. "I'm happy. So happy I was able to return to you. To Little Zhanzhan. To our family."
He tilted his head and planted a kiss on her cheek.
"I feel the same," he said.
She turned in his arms, meeting his gaze.
There was no need for more words to be exchanged between them. Their longing and yearning for each other were enough to bring them closer than ever.
They leaned in— their lips coming closer.
Just then, a small figure sprinted toward them.
"Mommy!"
Little Zhanzhan ran as fast as he could with his little legs, arms flailing as his body could barely keep up with his energy.
He ran so quickly that he misjudged his stopping point and smashed his head in full force against Song Yu Han's hip.
"Ugh—!"
Song Yu Han let out a grunt as the impact made him bend his torso slightly forward.
Ran Xueyi gasped. That looked like it hurt.
She immediately got worried. "Yu Han, are you okay?"
Before Song Yu Han could utter a reply, Little Zhanzhan puffed out his cheeks indignantly.
"You can't kiss Mommy without her kissing me first!" he declared.
Ran Xueyi was stunned, then burst into laughter as her eyes teared up a bit.
But then, just as she wiped away the tears, Song Yu Han suddenly lowered himself.
He knelt on one knee in the sand.
Ran Xueyi froze and stared at him with her wide eyes.
Song Yu Han reached into his pocket and pulled out a small velvet box. He opened it, revealing a diamond ring that caught the fading sunset light and glittered beautifully.
He looked up at her, feeling a bit nervous. But his sincere and steady gaze allowed him to take this another step into their lives together.
"To my one and only wife," he said. "The one I have loved and will continue to love. To the mother of my son, Ran Xueyi."
Her breath was caught as she stared at him.
"Will you give me the honor—" Song Yu Han continued. "—of marrying me again and let the entire world witness our love?"
Tears spilled freely down her cheeks.
Ran Xueyi choked on her tears as she couldn't hide her joy.
She nodded, unable to stop herself.
Her voice broke as she answered, "Yes!"
As soon as the word left her lips, Song Yu Han immediately stood up and carried her in his arms.
"I love you," he pressed his forehead against hers. "I'll love you till the day I die. And I will love you still after death. You will always be my wife, Xueyi."
Ran Xueyi wrapped her arms around his neck and nodded.
"I'll continue to love you today and forever."
Finally, the two leaned against each other and kissed.
The End.
