Zombie Apocalypse: I Have Safe Zone Superpower-Chapter 53: Extra Kb
Chapter 53: Chapter 53: Extra Kb
Edward looked at Ivy and asked, "Do you need something?"
Ivy shook her head and said calmly, "No. I was just passing by and saw two rice packets and some dried vegetables outside your door. I thought I should remind you...this isn’t the best time to leave food out in the open. Someone might steal it."
Edward frowned in confusion. "But... I didn’t leave any food outside."
Without saying a word, Ivy bent down and picked up the rice packets and dried vegetables, holding them up.
Edward’s eyes widened. He was stunned. "That... that’s not mine," he said slowly.
Just then, the little girl peeked out from behind Edward. She gasped when she saw the food in Ivy’s hands and pointed at it with excitement.
"Daddy! That’s the magical ingredient! You can make the magic dish now!"
Ivy’s lips curved into a gentle smile. "Yes, it is. You were waiting for it, right?"
Before Edward could respond, Ivy shoved the bags into his hands.
He blinked, holding the food, still unsure of what to say. "Ivy, wait...this isn’t..."
"I’ve eaten all the food you left for me before," Ivy said calmly, cutting him off. Her voice was soft but firm.
Then she turned and walked away without another word.
No thank yous. No long speeches. Just silence.
But the rice packets and dried vegetables said enough. Edward stared at them, his throat tight.
He looked down at his daughter, who clutched his leg with a bright smile on her face. "We can eat now, right, Daddy?"
Edward nodded slowly. "Yes... We can."
Then, without warning, a tear slipped down his cheek.
He never imagined that the small, quiet kindness he had once shown to a scared girl years ago would return to him like this...like a miracle.
Back then, it didn’t seem like much. But now... it meant survival.
Ivy, a few steps away, heard the soft sob behind her.
She paused for a second, but didn’t look back. There was still more work to do.
Even if she wanted to help Edward more, she couldn’t.
In her last life, Edward had died four months into the apocalypse. Just one month after his daughter’s passing. All because he didn’t have enough food.
And he wasn’t the only one.
There were so many people Ivy wanted to protect. But she couldn’t protect them all.
She had enough food to feed them meat every day if she wanted, but trust? Loyalty? Those couldn’t be bought with rice and soup.
Back at the door, Edward wiped his eyes. The little girl tilted her head and asked, "Daddy, why are you crying?"
He smiled sadly and said, "Because sometimes... even the smallest good thing you do can come back to save you."
His mind wandered to his family, his parents, his brothers. None of them helped him when things got bad. They used to call him brother. Said they’d always be there for him.
But now? They didn’t even look at him.
He looked at the food in his hands again, then at the hallway Ivy had disappeared down.
"If I ever get the chance," he whispered, "I’ll repay her."
Meanwhile, Ivy walked down another floor and knocked on the next door.
An old man and woman answered. Their eyes lit up with surprise when they saw her.
Ivy remembered them clearly. In her last life, when zombies had cornered her, she was frozen—too scared to use her powers.
These two had stepped in front of her without a second thought. They told her to run. Said they were old anyway, and she was young.
They protected her.
Now it was her turn.
"I found two bags of rice and some dried food outside your door," she said, holding the supplies. "You should take them before someone else does. They might get stolen."
The elderly couple looked confused. "That’s not ours, dear."
Ivy stared at them, voice firm. "It is now."
She placed the food in their hands and turned to leave before they could say anything more.
They looked at the supplies, then at each other.
They weren’t fools. They knew who had given them the food.
The old man nodded. The woman whispered, "Thank you, Ivy."
Ivy didn’t stop walking. But her temporal storage dinged.
[Ding! You have earned 40kb]
[Ding! You have earned 30kb]
[Congratulations on earning 10kb on your own. Your total balance is 136.7 kb]
"I would like to upgrade," Ivy said in a calm voice.
At the same time, she was surprised by the fact that she earned 20 to 40kb by just handing out a few supplies.
But soon she concluded.
The more desperate a person was... the more grateful they felt when they received supplies.
Like she got 20kb from Aunt June, maybe because she already had enough stock in her home.
While she received 30 to 40 kb from the elderly couple and Edward, because they were desperately in need of food.
With that thought, she calmly returned to Patrick’s apartment.
Once inside, she was about to continue to torture Patrick when suddenly she received a notification.
[Ding! You have earned 30kb from Aunt June.]
Again?
Ivy frowned in confusion.
Didn’t she get 20kb from Aunt June already? Why did she receive more kb?
Taking a deep breath, Ivy decided to investigate this matter later and entered the room, only to find Patrick trying to struggle out of the chains.
Her eyes unconsciously looked at the water on the floor, which had either evaporated or been licked clean, but from the saliva on the floor, Ivy knew Patrick had licked the water.
She smiled and called out,
"Patrick? Did you have fun while licking the water?"
Patrick kept his mouth shut, and that was when Ivy knew that something was wrong.
His silence meant he was planning something and with that thought, she asked with a narrowed gaze,
"Are you hiding something?"
Patrick stiffened before looking away, acting as if he didn’t hear Ivy’s words at all.
