You Think I Won't Talk?-Chapter 681
*******
The door’s closure made an echo that resented the time in place of the conflicted lovers.
"Marianne—"
"Stay where you are." — The uncertain woman said, giving a step back at his attempt to come to her side. — "What was all of that?"
"... It wasn’t anything. She was here when I arrived and appeared out of nowhere while I undressed."
"You didn’t notice her being around?"
"I didn’t—"
"Even though you said it’s difficult for any other than myself to do it as neatly?"
"... Marianne, you don’t believe I brought her here do you?"
"... Her upper body was fully exposed and you didn’t seem bothered one bit about it."
"It wasn’t I who did it!"
"Then why would she ask if you’re not going to touch her as if she were used to it!?"
"How would I know when I was thinking if I should kill her or not?!"
"Kill her while doing her?! If she’s a show off then cover her!! Why put her in your mattress!?"
"... I would never do anything like that."
"Then why were you above her!? Having her arms around you it doesn’t look like you wanted to—"
"She entered my chambers! And already exposing herself I pushed her down only to think what was best!! Whether to have your rage because I ended her life out of wrath, forgetting my promise to you, or have her walk out of here alive to later hate my doubt!"
"..."
"I made you a promise I have thought of breaking many times...! F*ck... if you hadn’t arrived..." — Tired and lowering his voice that frustration made terrifying a moment ago, Zeleskiaz pulled from his pants a hidden poniard she well recognised. — "I would have finally broken it..."
Marianne’s stare managed to see the trembling rage governing the man. His hand grasping the weapon summoned veins to pop from the madman’s skin and an ominous sigh was released before he decided to throw the weapon so it could stab the door Karina crossed.
*Crash!*
"D*MN IT! Cursed woman!" — He yelled after kicking the night table. Turning around and crouching down to hold his head, aware that such behaviour wasn’t what he wanted his love to see and conscious that it would be difficult to believe. — "This isn’t... f*ck..."
Ignorant he felt as to how he would prove himself innocent now. Afflicted by the thought that this could be the end of his happiness and yet Karina’s head was still attached to her neck.
"... this bane... I cannot endure it. I regret promising you not to kill her..." — He muttered, unaware of the eyes Marianne was looking at him with. Deciding in the deafening silence to stand and take the two-bladed sword resting at a corner of his chambers in his hand.
"?? What are you doing?"
"I’m hunting her down."
"?! Wait!" — Rushing to the doors as he saw no hesitation, Marianne stood before him. — "I said wait! Do you think this will make me believe it?!"
"I’m killing her tonight since it won’t matter anyway. Move aside."
"... it won’t matter? What do you—"
"You won’t believe me." — There was only rage in Zeleskiaz’s hues. One so intimidating that Marianne had never met for she had always been protected from meeting it, along with the sound that was suffocating as it expelled the words that hurt his own soul. — "Since you won’t believe me I might as well finally kill her. Her existence needs to disappear since keeping my promise still ended in this."
"Ended in what?! We haven’t even talked properly!"
"What I said was all that happened! I cannot say anything else! It’s been a fastidious day from the beginning!! Not even a glimpse I had of you and now this is how it ends! I should kill that F*cking Niccolò too since he kept me from returning to you until now!!"
"What does that idiot have to do with this!?"
"He’s been making me lose my time saying he can draw a sword against me!! I played along for a while until he finally decided to stop messing around! I wanted to bathe before going down to you but then this woman appeared and you—"
"Wait, wait, wait.... What did you just say?"
"... it doesn’t matter, Marianne. I am off to kill that woman and prince."
"No! I am serious, please! You just said something that doesn’t make sense to me!" — Placing her hands on him, Marianne stopped Zeleskiaz this time more concerned. — "You said you were with Niccolò a moment ago?"
"Ha... You call him by name now?"
"Zel! Answer my question!"
"... he asked for a match right when training was about to end. Had to entertain him without breaking his legs for a while."
"He told me you would be training until late tonight."
"? I wouldn’t have stayed at the training grounds if he hadn’t brought up that stupid idea at the end of it. I’ve to distract him at the Emperor’s orders, do you recall?"
"I do... this was probably a trap made by both of them... he knew you would be training and made it so you would take longer..." — Marianne understood while leaning on Zeleskiaz. Also deducing that such a half-hearted plan could not be for nothing. — "It is odd... shouldn’t they have us fight more efficiently? If they wanted to break us apart Karina wouldn’t have left as soon as I caught sight of that."
"..."
"... something isn’t right. How did they know I would even find sight of that?" — Her concerns shifted, the peaceful days appeared ominous now. Marianne’s intuition warned that this slip could not be senseless... could not be so harmless. — "I am going after her."
Determined, she looked up to inform the now quiet crown prince, turning around only to be stopped by his determined hand.
"Wait. You’re not going."
"Zel, this is important, something is—"
"We are also important." — Severe he moved her against the door. Cutting her path from escape. — "You cannot leave. Not until we solve this."
"Solve what? She set a trap for us, both of them. It is already solved to my eyes."
"... that was not what you thought at first." — Frowning intensely, Zeleskiaz said in pain. — "Did you truly believe... I was betraying you with her?"
