Chapter 64: Useless is Useless

–Tap–Tap

Eren felt someone tapping his shoulder as he open his eyes. Turning around, he saw it was his maid, Marie.

"Young Master, it’s your turn," she whispered, gesturing toward Commander Gareth, who was now looking at him expectantly, waiting for him to deliver his own speech.

Eren blinked, suddenly remembering Gareth had asked him to give a short motivational speech to lighten the mood. He remembered agreeing without thinking—but now, he regretted accepting it.

’Whatever. Let’s just get this over with’ He thought as he stepped forward to stand beside Gareth and faced the knights.

He spotted Leon and the other teammates—whose names he didn’t know and didn’t bother to remember, since to him, they were just NPCs. Honestly, he was already feeling too lazy to speak.

"Ahem... I only have a few words, so feel free to ignore them," he said with his usual lazy and indifferent expression. Everyone’s eyes widened—but they weren’t so surprised, as it wasn’t the first time they’d heard the young master speak like this, as it was during their past weeks of training.

"You better capture that monster and don’t fail or die. Because if any of you die, I’ll burn your corpses on the spot."

The commander, Raven, Marie, Kristoff, and all the knights looked at him in shock, unsure if he was joking or being serious.

Then, Eren’s eyes glowed a deep purple—and for a split second, the knights saw a terrifying creature with writhing tentacles standing behind him, staring at them with ominous eyes.

"One more thing..."

But it disappeared as quickly as it came, snapped away by Eren’s voice.

"If any of you have someone you love, I suggest you write a goodbye letter or a will. Just in case."

His words left most of the knights pale with despair, even though they thought–hoped—he was only joking. But were unsure if he actually was.

....

After Eren’s... uniquely motivational speech, Commander Gareth silently watched the departure scene unfold before him.

The young master Eren, alongside Raven and the rest of the 56 junior knights, began their march into the depths of the Dry Forest. It was no longer just training—it was a real mission.

As a precaution, Gareth had assigned five high-ranking senior knights to accompany them, just in case something went terribly wrong. Among them was Kristoff, who is reliable and experienced knight for his level head and strong combat instincts. Gareth wasn’t about to take chances, especially not when it involved that young master.

"Everyone, we’re moving out!" Leon’s voice rang out with crisp authority, causing the gathered knights to shift into formation.

With Leon at the front, the large group of knights ventured into the Dry Forest, the dense foliage parting before them like a curtain into an ominous stage. The once-familiar forest now felt darker, heavier—perhaps because they were going deeper than they had ever dared to go.

Hours passed.

The expedition moved steadily through the forest, venturing into uncharted areas none of the knight teams had trained in before. Leon led the group from the front with steady precision, keeping everyone alert and in formation. The junior knights marched in a cautious sphere formation, surrounding Raven at the center. She, with her unique monster-taming skill, released several of her tamed creatures to scout their surroundings in every direction.

Trailing just behind the group was Eren, accompanied by Kristoff and the other senior knights. Unlike the formation-conscious juniors, Eren was walking casually, flipping through a familiar, worn black book like he was on a school field trip. Only this "field trip" involved monsters with claws and fangs the size of tree branches.

Before the expedition, during one of the strategy meetings, Eren had casually suggested they head east—where the stronger monsters were said to lurk. The team leaders, including Leon, had hesitated for a moment... but eventually agreed.

Over the past 23 days, Eren had already scanned approximately 72% of the Dry Forest’s landscape, using his illusion magic and his drone, with the knights training participation as a cover. However, no matter how much he explored, the deeper parts of the forest—especially the east and northeast—remained untouched due to how dangerous they were. The knight teams didn’t dare venture further in, and understandably so.

’Tch. Wimps,’ Eren thought, narrowing his eyes. If they want results, then they to push past the safe zone.

That was exactly why he’d planned this "full team mission." With the knights occupied battling a powerful monster, he’d have the perfect chance to sneak away and finish scanning the rest of the map using his aerial drone. Multitasking at its finest.

’Haaah... if only I could use SP to just find the stupid dungeon,’ he groaned inwardly, annoyed.

He vividly remembered that one time—when a weird voice echoed in his mind, commenting him for trying to use System Points for dungeon locating.

At that time, he was thankful to whoever that was. But the frustration lingered when the system said it couldn’t

Why?

---

[System Notification: Apologies, Master. The System is currently unable to locate the dungeon using SP.]

"What do you mean by unable?" Eren’s brows twitched in irritation. "Didn’t you say SP could manipulate the laws of the world?"

[Y-yes! I mean—yes, Master! The System can manipulate certain laws and concepts... but there are limitations.]

Useless responded with a trembling fear from Eren’s anger.

[F-for example, finding a specific person, object, or dungeon with precision isn’t within the scope of the system capabilities...]

Eren scowled. "Then how did you access the World’s Architecture in the first place?"

[T-that’s different! I only accessed surface-level architecture—general landscape data. I tried using it to search for signs of an Aberration Dungeon, but... nothing came up.]

---

"So Useless." Eren sighed, clearly unconvinced. It sounded like Useless wasn’t lying, but something still felt off.

If this system could reverse time, grant modern tools like the game console and drones, bringing stuff from Earth, and even manipulate reality to a certain degree, then a hidden dungeon shouldn’t be impossible to find. The only logical explanation?

’I can only think of a one person responsible. Whether they are not good enough to notice the error, or they did it on purpose. The next time I see them, I’m throwing a slipper to their face.’

While Eren mulled over his deep thoughts, Raven suddenly tensed, her expression sharpening.

"Three monsters incoming! Ten o’clock!" she shouted, her voice slicing through the silence like a dagger.

Leon instantly raised his hand, signaling the team to halt. All eyes turned to the direction Raven had indicated.

–KIAAAA!!

Three large, pale-furred apes burst from the thick underbrush, their jaws wide open, revealing rows of jagged, yellow fangs. Their white fur was stained with mud and blood, and their crimson eyes locked onto the formation like hungry wolves spotting sheep.

But they were met with no fear—only preparation.

Two knights immediately cast lightning spells, electrocuting the apes mid-charge. Before the monsters could even recover, six others charged in with synchronized sword strikes.

–Slash!

–Crack!

–Splash!

The monsters fell, their bodies disintegrating into dark ash as three glowing magic gems dropped to the ground. Another clean victory.

"They’re doing so well," one of the senior knights whispered, impressed. Others nodded in agreement.

The juniors had improved immensely. Their coordination, their reactions, and their use of formations had clearly paid off. Raven’s scouting, combined with Leon’s leadership, made their movements efficient and energy-saving. They were conserving their strength for the inevitable clash with a level 5 monster.

Meanwhile, Kristoff glanced sideways.

There was Eren—still walking leisurely, still reading that same black book like they weren’t deep inside a death forest.

The contrast was almost comical.

Kristoff sighed. "I can’t understand how can you be so calm, young master " he muttered.

Eren flipped a page, completely unbothered.

"Because," Eren said without looking up, "I’m not the one fighting the monsters."

And with that, he continued reading. freewёbnoνel.com

Hours passed, and the knights still hadn’t encountered any level 5 monsters—only level 4 and below. Deciding to take a short rest, the team stopped and took a break while a few stayed on guard. Meanwhile, Raven continued scouting the area through the eyes of her bird-type monster.

But not so long after, she noticed something nearby.

"Found one."

Her sudden words drew the attention of several knights, including Leon, who quickly approached her.

"What is it?" he asked.

Raven narrowed her eyes, trying to get a clearer view of the monster her bird had spotted.

The creature was lying on a large, flat rock. It had a majestic lion-like body covered in sleek, golden-yellow fur, exuding a powerful and intimidating presence.

"It’s a large beast with four legs. A lion-like creature... with white-No. a yellow fur," Raven reported carefully.

Leon’s eyes widened in surprise at her description.

"Can you tell what its tail looks like?" he asked urgently.

Raven ordered her bird to fly closer. She squinted, focusing harder.

"Hmm... the tail is long... and the tip is covered in fur. It’s shaped... strangely."

"What kind of shape?" Leon pressed.

Raven frowned, struggling to put it into words. "Well... it kind of looks like... a lightning bolt?"

Suddenly, her eyes widened. She gasped and immediately shut her eyes with a low groan of discomfort.

"What happened?" one of the knights asked, concerned.

Raven rubbed her eyes, wincing. "There was a flash of light... it blinded me."

She looked at everyone with a serious face. "It killed my monster before I could see it move."
