The Rogue Alpha's Second Chance-Chapter 66: Disguised
Chapter 66: Disguised
Early in the morning, Violet received several messages from Jason.
"Alpha Mathew killed a pack member a few days earlier and disguised it as murder by rogues," the first one read.
"There is also a suspicious werewolf in the pack. My approximate guess is that he is a middle-aged man. However, he hides his appearance behind the cloak, and Alpha Mathew holds him in high reverence, treating him with the best."
Violet furrowed her brows.
"They are up to something, and Alpha’s mood swings are getting worse. I fear that in no time more pack members will be dying in his hands."
Although Jason informed her only because she asked, not pushing her to step in, Violet could feel a silent pressure building up. She pulled her lips into a thin line, falling into deep thought.
Mathew had no issue wearing a mask of politeness and showcasing caution for years. For him to act up now, was it an effect of him releasing his true personality after subduing it for long?
Or could there be a different reason?
The pack members had it ingrained within them to bow their heads to Alpha. However, with many of the archaic behaviours of silent subservience— regardless of how Alpha acted— being rebuked, even the Alphas couldn’t remain reckless.
Let alone someone holding as low rank as Mathew.
When Violet was kicked out of the pack, he designed an entire plan to manipulate the pack to believe she had done wrong. Otherwise, there would be more voices of protest arising. freewёbnoνel.com
What gave him the courage to be so fearless?
Her hands typed a response to Jason.
"Instead of getting close to Alpha, target the Beta. It will make you less suspicious."
Stanley Hudson was the cowardly Beta of Blue Rise Pack. All the years he held the position, his presence was almost reduced to zero. He mostly focused on administrative tasks and managed his own business, preferring to stay away from arguments and altercations.
It didn’t matter to him who the Alpha was unless his profits came into question. It was mandatory for a portion of his profits to be handed to the pack, and Mathew might have reached a peaceful negotiation with him on the subject.
Despite steering clear from pack responsibilities, his ears were constantly at alert for the current happenings of the pack.
If Mathew were to be engaged in any suspicious activities, he would receive the news ahead of others through his extended channels.
"Beta Stanley? However, he is hardly in the pack, and there’s no way he would sit down for a conversation. The man treasures time like money." Jason expressed his doubts.
Violet furrowed her brows, contemplating.
"All we need to do is create an opportunity that will tempt him to return to the pack and stay here," Violet mumbled herself.
Then, an idea clicked within her head.
"Wasn’t the pack in stalemate with the council on the mines? This is the perfect opportunity to lure Stanley. Forge a document, stating Stanley is my legal guardian; my dad passed the role to him after he passed away." Violet sent.
Jason’s response displayed his confusion. "Will he buy it?"
"He is too smart to not believe it. But his greed will cause him to act as though it’s real. And then, you have the perfect chance to board his ship. Make sure to make him believe you’re in it for a personal goal— the greedier the better."
Although Violet wasn’t a fan of Stanley, turning him against Mathew and being able to get him on her team would only open up opportunities for her.
"That’s a brilliant plan, Luna! I am sure the former Alpha will be proud of you. You’ve grown up well!" Jason commented.
Violet was far from being the strategist her father was, but this still counted as a step forward.

Today was the appointed day to visit the hospital for check up. Although Violet felt her condition was better than ever, being able to finally learn the gender of her child excited her.
She also would be able to see how the little one grew up.
Her chest bloomed in maternal affections, making her feel giddy.
Lydia planned to accompany her, but a last minute emergency called her away. At the end, the trip to the hospital ended up with only Sylas and her.
Violet was secretly pleased to learn that.
Once she realized Sylas had already entered the car, Violet took hurried steps towards the vehicle and opened the door.
Before getting her, her hazel eyes glimmered with expectations and joy as she held a bundle of flowers towards Sylas. The cluster of wild roses, bergamot, sweet cicely, jasmine, and other colorful blossoms was tied together using a white ribbon.
Sylas’s eyes lingered for a few seconds on the wild jasmines. The scent drifting off it was distinct from the other florals around it.
Sylas’s lack of response made Violet push the bundle further forward.
"Alpha," came out her whiny voice. "You said you find my arrangements pretty."
The corner of Sylas’s lips curled. "Thank you, Violet."
And then, Sylas took the flower bundle from her.
The appearance of Sylas with the flowers made her heart melt. As expected, a man as mesmerizing as Alpha went well with beautiful flowers.
"Alpha, you’re truly devastatingly charming," Violet commented.
Sylas shook his head, choosing not to respond.
"Get in."
Violet leaped into the car and closed the door. Then, putting on the seatbelt, she waited for Sylas to drive the car like an obedient child.
While Sylas maneuvered the car, Violet went on to tell him about the conversation she had with Jason earlier. After giving him the details, her round eyes stared at him unblinkingly, fishing for compliments.
Sylas did not disappoint. "Good job!"
Violet then sighed. "If only I had my wolf, Mathew wouldn’t stand a chance against me. When am I getting it back?"
Although her health began to recover and she started to regain weight, her connection with her wolf remained as severed as the day she learned of the betrayal.
Sylas stared ahead. "Eventually, Violet. Be patient."
Violet then raised her hands and lightly slapped her cheeks.
"Correct. I can’t be moping around. It’s unfair to you, Alpha, who helped me so much," Violet replied. "I need to start learning to be more grateful."
Sylas smiled and tempted her: "You can easily regain your wolf by consuming more of my blood."
