Chapter 153: Brutality

Chapter 151

The moment Ray had seen the orb pulsing, his instincts kicked in and he immediately lunged towards his best friend with all the speed he had left, boosted one last time with his lightning skill.

He made it in time as he grabbed Van by the neck while using his body as a shield to cover every visible part of his friend’s body.

Then an explosion rocked the whole room while sending an immense shockwave blasting out, such that it smashed Ray and Van through a wall and out of the room.

Tables scattered in different directions, splintering against the walls they were smashed into.

Glass shattered from the windows into sharp shard fragments.

The air was heavy with smoke... thick black smoke.

Felix and Kai, who were battling the last super strength meta-human, were also blasted far outside the room from that shockwave along with the guard.

Their bodies slid violently across the hallway before coming to a halt after hitting the wall on the opposite side.

"Cough... cough...." Ray could be heard coughing violently.

Specks of blood dribbled down from his mouth continuously with every cough.

He was on one knee in front of Van while clutching his chest in pain.

"Va-Van... are you okay?"

His best friend could be seen dusting himself off while clutching his broken ribs.

Thanks to Ray spinning around in time, Van didn’t sustain any new injury apart from the previous ones.

Noticing that they would crash through the wall, the Tribrid had spun around, using his back as a tower shield to drive through the structure while the shockwave from the blast amplified their movements by hitting Van in the face.

Van staggered towards his friend with heavy breaths.

"I-I-I’m fine. What about you?"

Ray forced out a smile as he kept coughing out blood onto his hand.

"I’m better than before."

Finally making it to where his friend knelt, Van stared down at his condition.

A pained expression appeared on his face at Ray’s state.

The boy was bleeding from almost everywhere.

Head, mouth, nose and even his back.

But even with his condition, he was still smiling at Van.

"Han-Hang on here. Let me check on Kai and Felix," said Ray.

He proceeded to stagger to his feet.

His breath was heavy with his eyes almost blurry. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

He almost crashed into the ground, causing Van to nearly shoot up to catch him.

But before this could happen, he planted his foot firmly on the ground, refusing to fall no matter what.

Without hesitation, he turned around and walked through the hole he had been blasted out from, while leaving Van behind where he presumed the boy would be safe.

Now that he was back in the room, his eyes widened at the sight.

Every single thing was burnt.

And if they weren’t, they were destroyed.

The bodies in the room were flung into a wall, reduced to a bloody pulp from the violent shockwave and explosion.

In short, the room was barely hanging on at this point as even the ceiling wasn’t in its position anymore; instead, it had made a settlement on the ground... scattered in different directions while letting the rays of sunlight bathe the area.

Staggering forward like a drunkard, Ray made it to the exit of the room where Kai, Felix, and the last guard could be seen.

Unfortunately, the unexpected explosion mixed with the shockwave was too strong for Kai to bear, as he was sprawled out cold.

Felix was conscious but coughing violently while cursing under his breath as he tried to recover fast enough.

On the other hand, the guard was the quickest to recover, even with blood streaming down his mouth.

But determination was coursing through his body as his armour could be seen cracked, but still holding on.

Tottering forward, the guard’s eyes were fixed firmly on an unconscious Kai, who lay quite spaced out and distant from where Felix was positioned.

Hearing the heavy sound of approaching footsteps, the young werewolf turned his head, spotting the guard heading directly towards his vulnerable comrade.

A grim, dark expression appeared on his face the instant he realized the threat.

Turning onto his belly, Felix prepared to act, digging his fingers into the hard ground as he struggled to force himself upright.

Suddenly, from the corner of his eyes, he saw something screaming through the air with lethal velocity.

Two jagged lines of obsidian energy whooshed past with incredible speed, smashing into the guard’s hamstrings.

They dug in with punishing might, causing a violent spray of blood to erupt.

The meta-human crashed to one knee, a mask of pain and utter confusion flashing across his face.

Turning toward the source of the strike, he saw a silver-haired boy panting hard.

Blood was still dripping from Ray’s nose and mouth, yet a fierce, unyielding fire burned in the depths of his eyes.

’This is the last of my meta-force.’

[Sparkshot Activated]

Lightning crackled fiercely around Ray’s hands, the brilliant arcs illuminating his pale face as the energy began coalescing around his trembling limbs.

The guard’s eyes widened in sheer horror as he witnessed the phenomenon.

’Hold on... a lightning ability? Bu-But that ability doesn’t ex...’

Bang—!

The bolt of lightning shot out with astonishing speed, colliding with the guard’s armored torso and sending thousands of joules of agonizing pain ravaging through his nervous system.

The man’s frame began shaking—spasming uncontrollably—while his eyes remained fixed in a wide, terrified stare, fresh blood trickling from his lips.

Ray knew this single burst wasn’t enough to kill a meta of this caliber.

But the attack wasn’t strictly aimed at ending his life; he simply required the man to remain motionless for a short duration.

.... Long enough for the young Aspirant to wobble over on shaky, unstable legs.

Ray was beyond exhausted, his reservoir of energy almost completely depleted, but he held on for one final, decisive action.

Standing directly before the paralyzed meta-human, Ray looked deep into the man’s eyes, and the guard looked back.

The man’s heart pounded loudly in his chest, the rhythmic thumping the only thing he could feel as he realized the end was upon him.

’Who is this kid...?’

Bam—!

Ray hammered his fist into the man’s face with every ounce of his remaining strength.

The meta-human’s head jerked violently backward, crashing into the flooring with a resonant, sickening sound.

A spiderweb crack appeared in the marble beneath the man’s skull.

The boy didn’t care for mercy.

Instead, he swung his leg downward, smashing his heel into the man’s face.

Again and again. And again and again.

He continued smashing his foot into the man’s features, the sound of cracks filling the air with a loud, repetitive snap.

These weren’t just cracks from the ground, but the sound of the man’s skull giving way under each relentless stomp of Ray’s foot.

Each kick drove the guard’s head deeper into the crater, sending splatters of blood dancing into the air.

It was a continuous, rhythmic stomp until the man’s face was almost unrecognizable and all movement ceased.

One last stomp. One last twitch. And then, all breath was gone from the man’s body.

No words were exchanged. No dialogue was needed.

There was only the sound of repeated stomping from a furious, pushed-to-the-edge young boy.

Felix remained frozen where he lay, a shocked, paralyzed look on his face at the sheer brutality of the display.

Blood pooled beneath the guard’s corpse, flowing like a river of crimson across the white floor, while Ray stood over him with an unchanged, hollow expression.

DING!
