The Rogue Alpha's Second Chance-Chapter 67: Gift
Chapter 67: Gift
"Tempted?" Sylas questioned.
There was an enticing glint in those steely-blue eyes— seductive and dangerous— resembling a devil whispering temptations. It stood as a stark contrast to his usual gentle and calm demeanor, catching her off guard.
Violet’s eyes traced down to his lips.
More than his blood, she wanted something else.
Violet’s cheeks heated up at her inappropriate thoughts.
Then, her thoughts traced back to Sylas’s words. Violet shook her head. "I am not."
Sylas furrowed his brows. "Are you saying that to please me?"
It only resulted in Violet shaking her head.
"I know I am impatient about my wolf back, but that doesn’t mean you owe me anything, Alpha. Also, I understand there are reasons because you kept me alive even when there was no need to," Violet sincerely replied. Her words showed her trust in Sylas.
Although the man treated her oddly at times, never did he have the intention to harm her, instead protected her.
Sylas’s lips curved up.
"My blood works a miracle. However, it’s a double-edged sword. Just like a drug, the more you consume it, the more addicted you get to the point you believe you wouldn’t survive without it. It drives a sane man to extremities," Sylas responded, "you should never be greedy for things that sound too good to be true. They are a poison in disguise."
Violet did not miss the gloominess shading his eyes for a moment.
She wondered what the man had to face due to his bloodline.
"Alpha, I will protect you in the future," Violet spoke out, "so that those who are greedy wouldn’t be able to reach you."
Sylas chuckled. "You talk big words."
"I am being serious here, Alpha. I mean it when I say I want to treat you well and protect you." Violet puffed up her cheeks.

When they reached the hospital, Violet vibrantly greeted Peter. By now, Violet considered herself a regular here.
She waited patiently when the doctor did the ultrasonography on her. When the image of the fetus was shown on the screen— features more grown up and distinct than previous one— Violet felt her heart melt in joy.
After the procedure was done, Violet had few more tests run on her. Then, when she finally received the scan of her ultrasound, she excitedly ran over to Sylas to show him the photo.
"See, Alpha, the baby is almost formed. You can make out the hands, legs, eyes, and the mouth. I can tell it is going to be adorable. It was a troublesome little one, but it grew up so well. I can forgive it," Violet expressed. There was a wide grin on her face, reaching her eyes.
She failed to notice how Sylas fell in a daze, staring at the photo.
Sylas turned to look at the other way. "Let’s go back."
Violet nodded— a little caught off guard by Sylas’s change in mood.
"Violet," Peter called.
"I will go and wait in the car. Come over after you are done."
Violet watched while Sylas left.
Then, Violet went over to Peter’s office and listened to all he had to say. After that, he handed her the reports and stated, "Given the state of your recovery, both the child and you will remain safe."
"Thank you," Violet expressed, "you have worked hard."
Peter shook his head.
"I should thank you instead. I am glad to find Lydia being hopeful again. That child has been depressed for a long time, and now since you’re recovering well, she is regaining her old confidence," Peter expressed.
Violet frowned. "Did Lydia suffer through something?"
A doctor as talented as Lydia shouldn’t need Violet to recover her confidence.
"It’s a long story. But to summarize it, Lydia was framed badly, and one of her patients lost life. After that, no one dared to trust her. And although Lydia pretends to be strong, I know deep down she blames herself," Peter stated before letting out a despondent sigh.
"But I see her visit packs all the time, checking up on patients," Violet uttered.
"She does. Even though they don’t trust her, she is a remarkable doctor. That’s why, they need to take advantage of her while not trusting her alone with the patients, keeping an eye on each of her moves."
°°°
There was a rare moment of agitation flashing through Sylas’s eyes. His hand slammed down on the steering wheel. He closed his eyes, trying to reel in his emotions when he heard the knocks on the window.
Those silver gray eyes instantly regained their calm demeanor when he lowered the glass and looked at Violet.
"The door is open. Get in." His voice was gentle as ever.
Once Violet entered the car, she extended her hand towards Sylas. She was held a pretty box of pastry, holding a delicate pastry inside. There was a slice of strawberry sitting on top of the cake.
Violet realized Sylas’s eyes widened for a second, seeming surprised.
"Present for you, Alpha. I learned the shop across the hospital sells good pastries. Although I don’t know why you’re upset today, but I hope this can make you a little better," Violet expressed. A wide smile played on her face.
Sylas silently stared at her for few seconds.
This made Violet feel panicked.
Did Sylas think she was imposing on him?
Especially after how she let him know she wouldn’t make him feel uncomfortable due to her feelings?
Violet carried on, "Well, I don’t mean anything much by it. I just wish you would be a little happier, Alpha, cause you make me happy and—"
Before Violet could continue, Sylas interrupted her, taking the pastry from her hand.
"Thank you, Violet. I will enjoy your gift."
This spread joy within Violet. Her eyes sparkled, and she nodded.
Sylas then noticed her empty hands and asked, "Have you not gotten one for yourself?"
Violet blinked her eyes and then it clicked in her head.
A sheepish giggle left her mouth. "It seems I forgot. But it’s okay. I get to eat delicious food everyday. Lucas spoils me a lot. It’s about you today, Alpha."
