Ever Grande City is located on a small island in the eastern part of the Hoenn region. Similar to Fallarbor Town, the place is filled with beautiful flowers everywhere.

Trainers who come to this city can not only challenge the Ever Grande Conference. At the same time, the highest-level Trainer competition, the Champion League, is also held here.

Dong, dong, dong!

At some point in the morning, melodious chimes rang out from Ever Grande Stadium, quickly spreading far and wide.

Outside the stadium, spectators from all over entered side by side, chatting animatedly.

Among these people, there were very few who came merely to watch for fun. They were all individuals with a deep understanding of Trainers and Pokémon. Some were owners of Pokémon-related businesses, others came from Trainer Dojos or Gyms, and of course there were also people in charge of competitive clubs and well-known Trainers. Overall, the audience that followed the Champion League was on a level clearly higher than those who paid attention to regional conferences.

In Champion League battles, every single match is an invaluable treasure, and the outcome is intertwined with varying degrees of stakes.

Unlike regional conference battles that the general public can easily understand, the battles here sometimes involve extremely complex tactics and combo moves. If an ordinary person is not careful, they can easily lose track of the rhythm of the match without even realizing it.

At the same time, in the Champion League, the number of commands issued by Trainers has already become very small.

This is also one of the reasons that limits the level of the audience.

The Pokémon trained by these veteran Trainers have long since merged their styles with those of their Trainers. They can roughly infer their Trainer’s intentions, possess fixed combat styles, and are able to independently perform simple evasion, defense, and attacks.

What the Trainer needs to do is only to issue two or three commands at extremely critical moments that can turn the tide of the battle. This not only prevents the opponent from understanding one’s intentions, but also saves battle time and accelerates one’s own combat tempo. This is practically a basic skill for Champion League contestants.

“Boss Hada, you’re here! Let me congratulate you in advance.”

“Of course I had to come. Muron has officially entered into a partnership with our company. This season we’ll be giving him strong support and investing in him heavily. I have very high expectations for this kid.”

“Of course, of course. Muron’s performance last season was obvious to all. Boss Hada, you really have a keen eye, haha.”

When Terrance, dressed in casual clothes, walked into Ever Grande Stadium and heard the conversation between the two men who looked like company bosses, he revealed a strange expression.

He was not the main character today. His battle would be tomorrow.

Today, he had only come to familiarize himself with the venue in advance and to watch other contestants’ matches.

From their conversation, Terrance learned that one of the contestants, named Muron, had entered into a partnership with a large company, making him, like Terrance, a Trainer being invested in within the Champion League.

Aside from the difference in strength between the investors and the invested, the situations of the two were not very different. Realizing this, Terrance became slightly curious.

Could it be that all these spectators were people with vested interests in the Champion League?

“Mr. Terrance, your seat is over there.” At this moment, a woman with short black hair, a tall figure, fair skin, and delicate features came running up quickly with a notebook in hand, guiding Terrance along the way.

“Thank you for the trouble.” 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

This old acquaintance was Sharan, the assistant who had worked with Terrance during the joint Trainer, Coordinator Super Festival. Ever since she had served as Terrance’s assistant last time, she had been promoted almost immediately and obtained a well-paid position.

This time, upon hearing that Terrance was challenging the Champion League, she did not hesitate at all. She directly gave up a position with excellent benefits and once again proactively requested to serve as Terrance’s assistant.

Because she… had smelled the scent of opportunity.

“This is a woman’s intuition. I feel that… I can get promoted again!”

Back when Terrance had shone brilliantly at the Super Festival, Sharan, who served as his assistant, received rewards and tasted success once. Using her experience as Terrance’s former assistant, she seized this opportunity again. She even gave up her current job just for this chance, all to follow Terrance for half a year.

During the half year that Terrance would be campaigning in the Champion League, Sharan would serve as his assistant, helping him handle miscellaneous matters such as food, lodging, travel, and daily arrangements.

Now, under Sharan’s guidance, Terrance arrived at a covered area. From here, the arena could be clearly seen, yet it was different from the spectator stands. It was quiet and secluded.

“This is the dedicated viewing area for Champion League contestants. For this match… hmm…” Sharan glanced around and said, “It seems that you’re the only contestant here to watch.”

“Mm.” Terrance found a seat and sat down. Neither of the two contestants was particularly popular, so it was normal that no one paid them much attention.

Even on the rostrum, only a single league representative had shown up as a formality, which spoke volumes about how little importance people placed on this match.

One had to know that Mr. Norman’s matches often drew members of the Elite Four and many higher-ups of the League to watch together. Compared to that level of treatment, the contestants below really had reason to feel sad.

“You should sit too.”

As Terrance spoke, his gaze turned downward. The League’s professional referee had already arrived, and the announcer was also in position.

As for the contestants… they, too, were walking onto the field on schedule from opposite sides.

Both of them were around twenty years old, not much older than Terrance. There was no need to think; since neither of them was a Gym Leader, they must have been champions of some past Ever Grande Conference.

“I remember that one of them specializes in Water types, and the other specializes in Fire types. That’s rather interesting,” Terrance said to Sharan.

“Yes, that’s right. Both of them have gradually been changing their team compositions during the Champion League. I suspect they’re accumulating experience,” Sharan replied.

In order to properly serve as Terrance’s assistant, she had clearly crammed a great deal of knowledge and investigated a lot of information.

Every Trainer has one or two types they specialize in, and Trainers are much more proficient when raising Pokémon of those favored types. This is also the fastest way to accumulate a solid foundation. Obviously, these two had long been planning for higher positions. However, in this match, Terrance estimated that he wouldn’t get to see a direct clash between water and fire.

As the match began, Terrance smiled. Sure enough, the Fire-type specialist Muron sent out the Pokémon that had followed him from the very beginning. Its type was quite diverse, with very little Fire Type. This was easy to understand. If he relied purely on Fire types, he would definitely be countered hard by his opponent.

“If nothing unexpected happens, I’ll also end up with the most Fairy-type Pokémon. Once I run into an evenly matched opponent with poor type compatibility, sending out Arcanine, Gallade, Mismagius, and the like… would also be a good choice.”

On the field, a Scizor and a Swampert were locked in a fierce battle.

This kind of intense confrontation made Terrance narrow his eyes unconsciously as he watched.

Sure enough, compared to regional conferences, the battle style of the Champion League was ferocious beyond measure. That X-Scissor from Scizor carried such tremendous force that it directly tore a massive wound across Swampert’s chest.

“My Pokémon have done a lot of anti-impact and endurance training. At this level, it shouldn’t be a problem…” Terrance stroked his chin. After all, his battles in Kalos against the Elite Four Wikstrom, and against Champion Diantha, had all stopped short of going this far—they were nowhere near this brutal. Still, it wasn’t that Terrance couldn’t accept this kind of battle. He had anticipated it long ago and had never let go of impact-resistance training ever since he started from Crown Academy. There was just one thing: Terrance had never truly pushed things to the extreme. The intensity was never excessive; everything was carefully calculated to stay within what his Pokémon could endure.

From Steven, he had learned that some Top Trainers even let their Pokémon train on the brink of life and death. Steven had warned Terrance to be extremely careful. Pokémon raised by such Trainers possessed terrifying durability and combat instincts.

Thinking of this, Terrance shook his head. He would take things one step at a time. He had experienced, and even witnessed, far more brutal situations, such as the battle on Prison Island.

Giovanni had fought with the intention of destroying the island outright, using even greater force. The clashes between the League investigators and Team Rocket had also been incomparably brutal.

As for that one exchange between him and Giovanni, conservatively speaking… it could probably have flattened Ever Grande Stadium.
