The Revenge of the Reborn Supreme Sovereign-Chapter 75 - 74: Not Yet Time!
As Ma Yunbin grew anxious, Qin Fan offered no explanation. He simply shook his head with a faint laugh and got into Ma Yunbin’s flashy Ferrari. Driven by a desperate urgency, Ma Yunbin ignored the speed cameras, pushing the superbly balanced Ferrari to a screaming 200 kilometers per hour on the highway. In the passenger seat, Qin Fan leaned back and closed his eyes to rest.
「Three hours later.」
The eye-catching Ferrari screeched to a halt on the road at the foot of the ridge.
"Master Qin, we’re here! We’ve arrived! Let’s get out, quickly!" Ma Yunbin unbuckled his seatbelt, his voice filled with impatience.
Without opening his eyes, Qin Fan said calmly, "It’s not time yet. If you want to go, go by yourself. But I’d advise you to be careful and not get any reckless ideas. If there really is a Jiao Dragon, a single puff of its breath would be enough to kill you."
"Not time yet? A single puff of breath can kill someone?" Ma Yunbin, who considered himself quite knowledgeable, exclaimed in shock. More and more questions about Qin Fan were taking root in his mind. How did he know all this? How did he know a Jiao Dragon’s breath could kill? And how could he be so certain that the Fortune Tellers and Magicians hadn’t made a move yet?
"Mm," Qin Fan affirmed with a single sound.
Faced with this response, Ma Yunbin wanted to tear his hair out. Yet, for some inexplicable reason, a profound sense of trust in Qin Fan began to surface. He was desperate to go over, but Qin Fan’s words made him hesitate. Awkwardly, he tried again, "Master Qin, why don’t we go have a look at what those Magicians are up to?"
"I told you, it’s not time," Qin Fan reiterated. "Go if you want. It’s no trouble for me to find you later."
"But... what you said was a little terrifying!" Ma Yunbin admitted, clearly conflicted.
Lying back in his seat, Qin Fan chuckled and shook his head. Eyes still closed, he pulled a protective Talisman from his pocket and held it out to Ma Yunbin. "This is a Life-saving Talisman. Take it. You can either go now or wait here with me. Oh, and put on some music. Something instrumental, maybe some guzheng."
A Life-saving Talisman? Ma Yunbin’s eyes widened, a glint of excitement flashing within them. He didn’t dare to act coy in front of Qin Fan and quickly took it. "Thank you, Master Qin!"
He had enough sense not to ask for details. Filled with an unwavering, excited belief in Qin Fan, he hastily turned on the car stereo. "Master Qin, in that case, I’ll go scout out the situation with the Magicians. I’ll meet up with you again later!"
"Fine," Qin Fan replied with a dismissive wave.
With a sheepish "Okay, then," Ma Yunbin quickly closed the car door.
「Under the cover of night.」
He eagerly ran toward the foot of the ridge. On the other side, near where many cars were parked, a crowd of Fortune Tellers and Magicians had already gathered. They were busy discussing their plans for the Jiao Dragon.
"Masters, when do you plan to subdue the dragon?" Suddenly, a voice spoke up from behind them.
The Magicians instinctively spun around. Seeing only Ma Yunbin, a young man in his twenties, they were all taken aback. "Who are you?" one of them asked.
"Nobody important! I just wanted to tag along and watch the fun. I want to see what a Jiao Dragon looks like!" Ma Yunbin said casually.
"You foolish boy with a death wish, get out of here!" a Magician in a long robe scolded with a frown. "This creature is not something you should be seeing! You could lose your life in an instant, and no one would even be here to collect your body!"
Even they weren’t fully confident they could handle the Jiao Dragon; how could an ordinary person expect to just watch? If anything went wrong, death would be instantaneous.
"Huh? Young Master Ma, is that you?" Under the moonlight, someone recognized Ma Yunbin’s face and quickly stood up, exclaiming in surprise.
"Aha! Master Li, it’s you!" Ma Yunbin sidled up and clapped the middle-aged man on the shoulder, speaking with the casual bravado of someone from the Martial World. "When are you all making your move? Let me tag along to watch the fun! I drove hundreds of kilometers to get here. You can understand that adventurous spirit, right?"
Hearing this, the man gave a wry smile. He spoke earnestly, "To be honest, Young Master Ma, we aren’t completely confident we can handle that fiend. You should go back. It’s not worth risking your life just to watch. If something goes wrong, no one will be able to save you."
"Can a Jiao Dragon really kill people with its breath?" Ma Yunbin exclaimed, suddenly remembering what Qin Fan had said.
"That’s what the legends say," the middle-aged man urged. "None of us has ever fought such a creature. The dangers are too unknown. If it weren’t for safety in numbers, believe me, I wouldn’t have dared to come either. Young Master Ma, take my advice and go back. It’s not worth the risk."
"Can you just tell me when you plan to make your move?" Ma Yunbin persisted, as if trying to verify what Qin Fan had told him.
The middle-aged man hesitated. Figuring it wasn’t some great secret about a treasure hunt, he gave a bitter smile. "The plan we agreed on is to act at the Hour of the Dragon. Alright, Young Master Ma, don’t ask any more questions. You should be out enjoying the dazzling world, not taking life-and-death risks like this. Go back."
With that, the middle-aged man patted Ma Yunbin’s shoulder and turned to rejoin the group.
Ma Yunbin stood frozen in place, listening to the low murmurs of the Fortune Tellers and Magicians. He glanced at the dark, overgrown expanse of Yanjing Ridge, his astonishment toward Qin Fan soaring to new heights.
How was Master Qin so sure those Fortune Tellers and Magicians wouldn’t act yet? And since he gave me a Life-saving Talisman, could he really be here just to watch the show? How did he know a Jiao Dragon could kill with its breath?
Tangled in a web of questions, Ma Yunbin ran back to the Ferrari. He pulled open the door and exclaimed, "Master Qin, you were exactly right! Those Fortune Tellers and Magicians said they’re going to wait until the Hour of the Dragon tomorrow to make their move!"
Listening to the music, Qin Fan didn’t seem to hear him, appearing to be asleep.
Showing a stubborn persistence, Ma Yunbin continued despite the lack of response. "Master Qin, what’s your plan? Are you going to follow those Fortune Tellers and Magicians, or are you going to look for the Jiao Dragon by yourself? The Hour of the Dragon is still more than ten hours away. Are we just going to sit here and wait with those Magicians?"
"Lie back and get some rest. I’ll wake you when it’s time," Qin Fan said flatly, still motionless in the passenger seat. "If there really is a Jiao Dragon, then just for bringing me this information, I guarantee you’ll get to see it."
These words left the normally shrewd Ma Yunbin completely stunned.
Listening to what Qin Fan said... does he plan to act alone? Faced with a Jiao Dragon that can kill with a breath, how can he be so calm and composed?
Filled with a thousand questions, Ma Yunbin knew it was pointless to ask any more, as Qin Fan wouldn’t answer. With his thoughts in a turmoil, he settled back into his seat. The calming guzheng music did nothing to soothe his mind. He stared blankly at the distant fishing lights dotting the vast sea, his thoughts drifting beyond the Ninth Layer.
