Disaster Apocalypse: Farming, Family, and My Hidden Secret Space-Chapter 540: Finale
"It’s only been three months, and I’m not even walking fast," Hua Jinyi said, cuddling her grandmother and acting coy.
"You, my dear," Granny Hua shook her head, "You still have to be careful, not like before."
"I know, I know," Hua Jinyi nodded quickly. Otherwise, Granny would start nagging endlessly again.
"Granny, sweet and sour ribs." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"Alright, alright, Granny will go make some right now," Granny Hua beamed as she looked at her granddaughter’s belly, then glanced towards Luo Song, "Take good care of her," she instructed with concern.
"Granny..." Hua Jinyi pouted, dissatisfied. Granny Hua pretended not to hear and hurried into the kitchen.
Glaring at Luo Song, Hua Jinyi sat in the courtyard. It was all his fault; she never imagined she would get pregnant so soon.
However, thinking about the baby growing in her belly, she felt a sense of wonder. Unconsciously, she placed her hand protectively over her belly, her eyes radiating a gentle light. Standing beside her, Luo Song also couldn’t help but smile softly, his eyes full of adoration for the most important person in his life, unable to part even for a moment.
"Have some chicken soup..."
"Mom, I just ate less than an hour ago. I really can’t drink anymore."
Seeing her doting mother, Hua Jinyi felt helpless. Although she craved sweet and sour ribs, that was for lunch.
Ever since they found out she was pregnant, the family, including the three little ones, treated her as if she were a fragile doll, almost wanting to replace her when she walked. Her mother and granny became overly anxious, nagging more frequently than before. They never left the kitchen, and every now and then, delicious foods were brought out; in any case, they ensured she was never hungry at any time.
"Just some chicken broth. It’s good for the baby and won’t fill you up."
In the end, Hua Jinyi drank it. After all, it was her mother’s gesture, and indeed the broth was just pure chicken soup, with the fat skimmed off completely. Given her large appetite, she thought if she continued to be fed this way, she’d soon gain a lot of weight.
"Thank you, Mom, it smells so good," she said after drinking it, not missing the chance to flatter her mother, which made Madam Qi smile with joy, gazing at her daughter, especially her belly, with tenderness.
In late summer, Hua Jinyi and her family learned the war had ended and the new emperor had ascended the throne. The people of the turbulent Gu Yan finally saw a glimmer of hope, thanks to the fireballs and skycannon.
It was good that peace had returned. Upon hearing the news, Hua Jinyi couldn’t help but feel happy.
As long as there were no more wars, the lives of the people would gradually improve. She thought about her days of taking it easy, believing her efforts in getting the formula for the skycannon and fireballs out were not in vain.
After years of disasters, combined with the power of the fireballs, things might stabilize for another ten or twenty years.
Autumn arrived unnoticeably when Hua Jinyi was six months pregnant. After nearly a year and a half of summer, autumn finally came.
The leaves started turning yellow, the temperature dropped day by day, and the seasonal change wasn’t abrupt like in previous years. A gradual increase in chill made everyone happy, heralding the long-awaited return of seasons and the end of heavenly punishment.
Two months later, winter arrived as expected. Snow blanketed the land overnight, dressing everything in white.
Hua Jinyi entered the later stages of her pregnancy, and the child was born amidst the sound of firecrackers celebrating the New Year. Luo Song’s first son, his loud cry mixing with the sound of firecrackers, created a symphony of hope, causing Old Master Luo to excitedly kneel and bow to their ancestors.
This little darling, cherished by all, successfully captured everyone’s attention, which made Hua Jinyi a bit jealous, earning her some good-natured teasing from her mother and grandmother.
After Hua Jinyi completed her two-month confinement, spring finally arrived, dispelling the last traces of unease in everyone’s heart. The seasons were truly returning.
With the arrival of spring, everything began to revive. Birds sang, flowers bloomed, and the earth came alive with vibrant growth, painting a colorful landscape.
Looking at this beautiful scene, Hua Jinyi leaned against the man behind her, smiling happily.
In this life, she felt truly content, blessed with loving family members and a husband who adored her with all his heart.
"Mama..."
"Mama..."
A big and a small child ran joyfully towards the beautiful woman in the courtyard.
"Zi Zhen, Zi Tian, slow down, don’t bump into your mother..." Madam Qi followed them, concerned, grabbing one child in each hand as they reached their mother’s side.
Seeing this joyful scene was delightful to Hua Jinyi. As the number of children in the family grew, the elders’ health also improved significantly.
How could they not be healthier? Every day, they had much more activity, and even the daughters-in-law appeared more vibrant than before.
The years passed without any sign of aging; the grandparents looked much younger than people of their generation, making the village’s daughters-in-law envious and somewhat jealous.
"Mama... you take it easy too," Hua Jinyi said, her lips curving into a radiant smile.
"Don’t worry, your mom is still in great shape," Madam Qi said, grasping one grandson in each hand, her eyes full of smiles as she looked at the maids attending her daughter.
"Is Zi Zhen’s dad coming home soon...?"
If her son-in-law could return soon, Madam Qi would be even more pleased.
"Soon, in less than a fortnight. Mom, are you sure you won’t come with us to the state capital?" Hua Jinyi asked, one hand gently resting on her slightly rounded belly, the other holding her mother’s hand, unconsciously acting a bit spoiled.
"No, your grandpa and grandma don’t want to leave. We’ll stay here with them a bit longer..."
Thinking of her Grandpa and Grandma, Hua Jinyi no longer insisted. "Golden nest, silver nest, none compares to your own home," and besides, they’ve lived here all their lives; she understood their reluctance to leave. Yet, the thought of separating from her parents and her granny tugged at her heart.
All her life, she had never been away from her parents, which made her hesitant to leave now.
Life in Hua Village was peaceful and comfortable, envied by those in Shanggu Town and the nearby villages. Wasn’t it the easy life she desired?
But... Hua Jinyi touched her belly and looked at her two sons playing happily, recalling her husband’s letters urging them to return to the state capital. For the sake of the children, she knew it was time to leave. After all, the capital was the stage for the Luo family.
Ah, life is always full of such and such imperfections, hasn’t she realized this already!
In the fifth year of the Teng calendar, Hua Jinyi returned to the state capital with Luo Song, and in the same year, their eldest daughter was born, bringing such joy to Old Master Luo that he got out of bed, celebrating with a three-day feast.
In the seventh year of the Teng calendar, Granny Hua and Old Man Hua finally couldn’t resist their granddaughter’s constant letters urging them to move to Lingyun State City, fueled by their longing for her.
Hua Jinyi looked at her children nestled beside her, and her husband, who had cherished her like a treasure for a decade, smiled.
In this life... she was truly content!
