Chapter 609: 607 I really have important things to do (first update)
Li Xianyun smiled and said, "I’m already awake. Even if I lay here, I can’t fall back asleep, so I might as well get up and do something."
Seeing that Yelu Yan remained unmoved, Li Xianyun lifted her hand to push his chest, cooing, "Husband, get up, you’re crushing me."
Yelu Yan sighed lightly and resigned himself to lying flat on the bed.
Li Xianyun rolled over and planted a kiss on Yelu Yan’s cheek before struggling to sit up.
Yelu Yan bent one arm as a pillow under his head while his other hand caressed Li Xianyun’s smooth back.
Her back was straight and elegantly contoured, drawing one’s gaze irresistibly, mesmerizing to behold.
Following last night’s storm of passion in the bathhouse, the couple had left all their clothes there.
Afterward, they battled to the bed. Intimacies shared, they’d cleaned themselves slightly and, without dressing, embraced each other naked throughout the night.
Li Xianyun, feeling ticklish, turned to look at Yelu Yan, "Husband, go get my clothes for me. They’re in the bag that Youlan brought in yesterday." ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
Fearing Yelu Yan would fail to find them, she added, "Never mind, bring me the bag, and I’ll find them myself."
It would save her the trouble of tidying up after his haphazard searching.
Yelu Yan rose and hugged her tightly from behind.
Li Xianyun’s heart skipped a few beats as she distinctly felt the firmness of Yelu Yan’s chest and the heat of his breath.
While kissing and smelling the nape of her neck, Yelu Yan vigorously kneaded her chest several times.
This caused Li Xianyun’s face to flush and her heart to pound, as she giggled and wriggled away, "Husband, stop fooling around; I really do have important matters."
Yelu Yan, somewhat reluctantly, ceased his teasing amidst her playful pleading, wrapping her up in the blanket like a dumpling to keep her warm. After seeing to her comfort, he finally got out of bed, slipped on his shoes and fetched the bag.
Dressed and freshened up after breakfast, Li Xianyun wanted to take people for a stroll outside Hengzhou City.
Yelu Yan, naturally, refused, insisting she wait for him to accompany her.
But that would draw too much attention.
With Yelu Yan’s striking presence, following him would surely lead to her own discovery, would it not?
Moreover, her visit was meant to assist, not to cause chaos.
Yelu Yan had many obligations, and she didn’t want to disrupt his plans.
"Husband, I’ll take more people with me. Just let me go out and see, okay?"
As she spoke, Li Xianyun nestled bonelessly in Yelu Yan’s embrace.
He was a man as tall and mighty as a mountain.
Embracing her and kissing her, Yelu Yan accepted that he couldn’t change her mind and merely said, "Come back early."
"At your command."
Saying this, Li Xianyun struggled to leave.
Yelu Yan firmly held onto her small hand, "I’ll escort you out."
Once outside, Yelu Yan helped Li Xianyun mount her horse and instructed Jinwu to follow with twenty or thirty men.
Standing before the horse, Yelu Yan grasped Li Xianyun’s hand and instructed again, "Come back early."
"I know."
Reassured by her promise, he finally stepped back.
With a grip on the reins and a squeeze of the horse’s sides, Li Xianyun set the horse off with a trot.
Watching Li Xianyun ride away, Yelu Yan’s expression softened even more.
Her delicate back, straight and strong, was both tender and valiant.
Not until Li Xianyun’s frail silhouette had vanished at the street corner, did Yelu Yan turn back to deal with his official duties.
Li Xianyun and her company headed directly to the outskirts of Hengzhou City, where a wide moat and a broad expanse of open ground isolated Hengzhou from the outside world.
Hengzhou was flanked on three sides by treacherous terrain with tall city walls constructed atop the mountains, snaking along the landscape—easy to defend but hard to attack.
On the city wall, every few meters stood a soldier with a long spear, vigilant and positioned at the crenel, the security was indeed stringent.
Li Xianyun focused her gaze intently, observing the terrain around her, not missing any tiny detail, while her mind raced, contemplating what kind of weapon could breach such an impregnable defense.
As she surveyed her surroundings, a tall figure appeared on the northern watchtower of Hengzhou.
There were many officers standing behind him.
Amid so many, Li Xianyun’s eyes found Murong Ce at first glance.
Although his expression was obscured by the distance, Li Xianyun knew he was watching her too.
The two gazed at each other from afar.
Unconsciously, Li Xianyun’s hand tightened on the reins, the delicate joints blanching from her grip, turning a pale white.
Huanhuan had died so tragically, yet this man lived well, ascending to rule a nation, wielding supreme power where life and death lay in his mere words.
Some bewildered officers, seeing Li Xianyun, respectfully asked Murong Ce, "Your Majesty, there’s a Khitan spy over there. Shall we beat the drums and shout to provoke them?"
Murong Ce, unblinkingly watching the graceful silhouette on horseback in the distance, merely raised his hand slightly.
The officer shrank his neck and uttered a compliant "Yes, sir," not daring to say another word.
Li Xianyun deliberately ignored Murong Ce and spurred her horse forward, knowing now was not the time for petty fury.
She needed to stay calm to see if she could devise a weapon to solve the immediate dilemma.
Under Murong Ce’s watchful eyes, Li Xianyun took a turn around the outskirts of Hengzhou City and then rode toward Liuzhou. Wherever her horse trotted, a trail of yellowish-white dust billowed up.
With the horse’s galloping gait, Li Xianyun moved up and down, and in this vast and open field, she seemed like an eagle soaring freely, unfettered and unrestrained.
Murong Ce’s fingers curled slightly. Li Xianyun seemed even more vibrant and captivating than when she was in Chang’an—an added hint of liberality to her elegance, filled with charm that made it impossible to look away.
Not until Li Xianyun’s figure disappeared did Murong Ce glance at one of the top four masters, Yu.
Yu immediately stepped forward and bowed, "Your Majesty."
"Has the news not yet reached the Empress’s ears?"
"Not yet. Yelu Yan is well-informed. If he gets the news, he may not tell the Empress."
Murong Ce snorted with an air of watching a spectacle unfold, "Really? With such a significant matter kept from her, how could the Empress ever forgive him?"
The officers always feared Murong Ce, anxious not to enrage him and jeopardy their lives.
The commoners, grateful to Murong Ce for lowering taxes, building aqueducts, and improving their lives, were in his debt.
Yet those at court knew Murong Ce to be fickle and ruthlessly decisive, aware that a slightest misstep could lead to ruin.
The officers stood vigilantly at his side, not daring to even breathe too loudly.
Upon returning to Liuzhou City, Li Xianyun went straight to the study to sketch and write.
When Yelu Yan returned at 11 AM–1 PM, he found Li Xianyun propping her chin, staring at the pen rack in a daze, with numerous crumpled papers strewn on the desk and floor, revealing her unsettled mind.
Yelu Yan walked in and picked up a paper ball from the floor, unfurling it to find a drawing of a half-constructed device, evidently discarded for not meeting her satisfaction.
Hearing his footsteps, Li Xianyun lowered her hands, leaning dejectedly in her chair, gazing with her autumnal eyes at his tall figure.
Yelu Yan approached and wrapped her in his embrace, lowering his head to gently caress her hair.
Li Xianyun hugged Yelu Yan’s waist tightly, burying her face entirely into the folds of his garments, vulnerable and helpless.
Yelu Yan’s heart ached for her, "Xianxian, let things take their natural course. Don’t make life so hard for yourself."
