Chapter 81: A Battle To The Death (Part 2)

Walter was in a state of excessive power, soul energy surged within his veins but the exhaustion was there as well. He didn’t know what to do... the appendages rose from Rem’s back and constricted like tentacles, a terrifying amount of magical energy pulsating within them but surprisingly Walter was not afraid – the rush of adrenaline within his veins was a lot more noticeable now, Walter’s breathing turned excessive and the white surges of soul energy crackled around his palms.

"Wind Thrust!" Walter cried out, extending his palm toward Rem and shooting forward a gust of wind – it was much stronger than when he was using the blade and Rem suspected partly that it was because he had landed a Convergence earlier.

Rem extended the appendages to a huge debris, grabbing hold of it without much effort and then placing it between himself and the gust. The gust was powerful but in the presence of a huge debris from a fallen building, it meant nothing but a rattle.

Rem utilized the tentacles and ripped the debris apart before propelling off the ground with the rest, closing the distance between himself and Walter within moments. Rem coated the other appendages with soul energy and thrusted them each in Walter’s direction.

"Hell," Walter cursed under his breath and leapt backward, narrowly avoiding the first tentacle which crashed into the ground, "Tentacles?"

The second one slammed into his side and knocked the wind out of the Cavalier who was sent rolling across the ground, Walter steadied his feet on the ground just in time as two other tentacles crashed into the ground in front of him, kicking up a great deal of dust.

’They don’t seem to be aimed at me,’ Walter analyzed as he coughed, the dust was doing partial damage to him, ’It seems like he’s aiming to take away my vision,’

Walter commended his opponent’s strategy but clapped his palms, increased soul energy pulsating through his veins as a burst of wind spread radially – clearing away every bit of dust but Rem was already below him, his black clothing rustling in the wind.

Rem quickly threw a kick forward and Walter raised his hand, blocking the kick with his fist only for a sharp pain to throb across his hand... a green blade made entirely of soul energy had penetrated his arm and created quite a deep wound, Rem retracted the blade as he pushed away from Walter and threw his other foot at Walter’s face.

Walter leaned backward just in time as Rem’s kick passed over his head, the blade materializing at his feet and slicing through the air as well... Walter took Rem’s momentary weakness as an advantage and thrusted his fist forward, only for it to be restricted by an appendage of slime, stretching forth and wrapping around his fist easily.

Rem had already revealed most of his moves to the man and yet Walter wasn’t dead yet, the Apprentice pursed his lips and flipped backward, making some space between himself and the Cavalier.

"The next strike... I’ll finish it with that," Rem muttered, and Walter pulled up his guard, his movements insinuated that he was waiting for Arya, the Channeler captain to step out of the dungeon and sense them – but Rem was having none of it... the attack he was about to plan cost a lot energy-wise but it would help him in the long run, it was only a matter of time before the Magus stepped out and then they would jump him, this was something that Rem didn’t want at all.

Rem shot off the ground and vanished from Walter’s sights, only to appear right above the Cavalier and bring his fist down with precision... Walter knew what would happen if he attempted to block the fist and in the case of dodging, Rem would also have a chance to counter pretty quickly.

Rem was already too close for him to even consider leaping backward so Walter decided to grab his palm head-on and that was where he made the mistake. As soon as Walter took hold of Rem’s fist, he felt it being disconnected instantly... the experienced Cavalier could barely blink as his assailant had cut off his arm yet again but this time the slimes gathered faster than ever, pulsating and creating a new arm faster than Walter could blink.

Rem descended quickly and activated his Soul sickle, Walter tried to react but he was too slow as Rem vanished and appeared behind him, the sickle faded and Rem heaved a sigh of relief.

’I... won,’

Blood splattered on the ground below Walter, several slashes spread from his chest all over his body... The Cavalier blinked and let out a small cough, his knees lost power and he fell to the ground, face-first... Silence washed over the battlefield as Walter died, a tab appeared in front of Rem.

...

[Would you like to absorb ’Cavalier Captain’ Soul?]

[Yes / No]

...

Rem had seen it many times before, whether it be Human, whether it be Monster – the Monster Monarch system unfailingly reminded him that he had killed something, Rem didn’t even feel it anymore – he didn’t feel the effects, everything he did, he did it for power.

...

[’Cavalier Captain’ soul has been successfully absorbed]

[You have gained 10 STR points, 10 SPD points, 10 END points, Unique Skill: Wind Blade, Unique Skill: Wind Suction]

...

Rem stared at the sky, it was growing dark and then he looked back at the screen. It seemed that he had gotten the skills that the Cavalier captain had as well and those were of course good in a way, especially in the way that Walter had used them during their battle... being able to gather wind and propel the target to you, it was a very convenient way of dealing with troublesome people.

"I have to go," Rem muttered under his breath as he sprung into the air, leaping away from the scene – after this, Rem was sure that they would deploy more powerful people in Reifall, possibly people even more powerful than Walter and even his slime healing wouldn’t help him then.

Arya had just left the dungeon and she felt something was wrong – her eyes widened as she began running, moving as fast as her legs could take her – she could sense it, she was a Channeler after all, she could sense her friend dead...
