The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 80: A Battle To The Death

Rem and Walter shot toward each other, their figures blurring as they clashed mid-air, a shockwave rippled around them. Web-like cracks spread across the ground as both of them threw their respective weapons forward, Rem’s weapons being his fist clad in domineering green soul energy and Walter’s weapon being his sword vibrating with his soul energy.

The air was a flurry of blows, Rem’s fists kept shooting forward at an absurd rate as all of his focus was directed on Walter but Walter refused to relent as well, his blade going up to meet Rem with every punch... as the fight ensued, Rem took a step back and faltered, pain flared up within his knuckles and Walter smiled, using this as a chance.

The Cavalier captain took a step forward and brought his sword down in the heat of the battle, A slicing sound was heard as Rem’s right hand was instantly cut off – blood spraying on the ground as a result.

Walter’s eyes widened, it wasn’t blood that was on the ground but rather slime...

’What is-’

Rem took him by surprise and punched him in the face, his fist was charged with brilliant sparks of black lightning.

’Convergence!’ Rem cried out inwardly as the reality around them distorted, dealing maximum damage to Walter who took the blow head-on... Walter was sent flying back, his back crashing into a nearby building and causing a crater there, the power packed behind that punch was surreal.

Walter barely managed to raise his head up but when he did, his eyes shot open in surprise, he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

’Is he even human?’ Walter thought as slimes protruded from the stump of Rem’s arm, they took on the shape of his arm and began glowing... soon the slime dispersed and Rem’s right arm was there in full glory, ’When you think you’ve seen everything in this life... you just have to see something more absurd,’

Walter coughed as he massaged his face, blood rushed down his mouth, nose and ears all from that single strike Rem had landed – it was a Convergence after all, a powerful attack that channeled and maximized the force of all of the soul energy within the body into a single strike, it was bound to hurt.

Walter watched Rem’s soul energy cascade to even greater heights, each time one landed a Convergence, their soul energy reserves would be doubled and their soul would expand to be able to hold such a staggering amount of soul energy but it was only temporary, the effects were going to diminish sometime after. Each time a person lands a Convergence, to ensure that their soul reserves expand to be able to handle the doubled soul energy, the body had to go into a state of exhaustion but there were certain people who could push past the exhaustion and utilize their soul energy to the maximum... Rem was one of those people.

And since magical energy was also within the soul, Rem’s magical reserves were also expanded.

’If I hadn’t landed two convergences, I wouldn’t have been able to heal myself,’ Rem thought with an emotionless expression as his eyes fell on Walter who was slowly getting up – he had already revealed his slime ability to the man and that meant he had to be killed... One of them was going to die today and Rem didn’t plan on dying but neither did Walter.

"I don’t know what you are," Walter muttered as he got onto his feet, "But you are not going to win today, You die here,"

Walter’s sword intensified it’s glow with each word he spoke, he spoke with conviction and belief – the thought of Arya, the thought of seeing Arya again filled him with confidence... he pointed his blade at Rem and the steel glinted.

"Wind Suction!"

Walter unveiled another skill, the wind in the area gathered around Rem’s back and sent the apprentice propelling toward the Cavalier with speed but Rem was unfazed, his eyes gleamed with soul energy as Walter placed his other hand on the sword.

"Wind Blade!"

The sword vibrated and a brilliant gust of wind burst forth, heading right for Rem’s body – Rem knew that if this gust of wind touched him as well as the wind pushing him from behind, there was a good chance of him being killed by the pressure.

Rem turned his body into a slime much to Walter’s surprise and then he escaped from the range of Walter’s technique before turning back into his human body, Rem dashed forward while Walter tried to alter the trajectory of his attack but he had already exerted all of his force into focusing his skills in one place and with Rem closing in, he wouldn’t have enough time to deactivate his skill and avoid any strike from Rem.

Rem neared the Cavalier and leapt upward, Walter’s full focus was on the blade as he struggled to deactivate the skill. Rem prepared to completely close the distance between them and strike but he blinked, something didn’t feel right... and then he could see it, a fist was right in front of his face in the next moment.

Walter’s fist crashed into his face and black sparks of lightning burst to life around it, reality distorted for the third time today – Rem was sent flying backwards, his body landing with a sickening thud... he was hit squarely on the face.

’I let down my guard,’ Rem thought as he rolled to the right, in time to dodge a stomp from Walter... the stomp rippled through the ground and Rem quickly pulled himself away, slimes distorted around his face and healed it up immediately, Rem sprung up once again and avoided another stomp.

’He’s trying to stomp me like a roach,’ Rem thought with a frown – Walter seemed entirely different now, Rem could not even see his pupils anymore, just white soul energy shooting out of his eyes rapidly, ’He has landed a single Convergence and his reserves have doubled but the exhaustion is slowly lingering in his figure and I can use that to my advantage,’

The battle was reaching it’s peak and both fighters were ready to finish it off... Rem locked eyes with Walter and tentacles of slime escaped from his back, he made four long appendages with the help of magical energy.

"I hope you’re ready... to die,"
