The sunlight peering in through my windows slowly forced me to wake up rolling over wasn’t enough to get away from it. “Morning Pillow.” I greeted and the Growlithe’s tail wagged a bit but he was happy to stay lazy.

“Lulu.”

“I pointedly didn’t wish you a good morning.” I grumbled, turning to glare at Riolu who had been sharing my bed. “Your bony elbow was in my side multiple times last night.”

“Rio? Luuuu.” She questioned fakely. She’d done it on purpose. Which is why I’d literally kicked her out of my best, twice.

“Next time I’m throwing you in your pokeball.”

“Riolu.” She scoffed and rose up stretching and then hopping out of bed, her tail wagging as she was already reaching for the TV remote.

“Not today.” I said before she could scoop it up. “Go get washed up, we’ll be leaving once we’re ready.”

“Rio? Lulu!”

“You’ll miss the cartoons today Riolu, and probably for the next few weeks. Come on.” I told her as she pouted at me. It was obvious as I was heading for the door she was going to wait for me to leave before flipping it on anyways.

“Arcany! Riolu is sleeping in!” I called out as I opened the door and then leapt aside.

“Rio?”

“You should have listened.” I told her as I headed down the hall, as Arcany rumbled through the house and into my room. A few moments later I heard Riolu shriek as she was attacked.

I made it to the kitchen rubbing sleep out of my eyes to see Mama already making some breakfast.

“You’re up early.”

“Today is important, I’ll be gone all day.”

“Oh?”

“Just at the stable. It’s a big training day today.”

“Ah I see, alright. I’ll be here.” Mama offered and I grinned as I took my seat as a few moments later Riolu was dragged in by her leg, Arcany took a seat and wagged his tail.

“So this is what it’s like from this side of it. I totally understand Papa better now.” I decided and Mama sighed, as Riolu just hung from Arcany’s jaws in shellshock at what just happened.

“Lu? Lucario?”

“Rio! Riolu! Lulu!” Lucario asked as she walked into the kitchen seemingly wondering what was going on. It took her a second she looked at Riolu and Arcany, his tail still going and then started laughing.

“Lulululu!”

“Rio! Riolulu!”

“Wow this is giving me flashbacks.” I whispered and Mama started giggling at me and Riolu. Riolu’s yells at her mother to not laugh at her going unheard. But I guess it was time to let it go.

“Okay Arcany thank you, but let’s put Riolu down now.” I said and after a moment of glancing at Mama I noticed, he dropped her and she rose up in a huff trying to reclaim her shattered ego.

“Come on Riolu breakfast. Eat up, you’re going to need every scrap of energy for today.”

“Rio?”

She huffed at me, but it sounded questioning as Mama put food out for both of us.

Quickly chowing down, I dragged Riolu to the bath and got us both cleaned up.

Dragonite was our ride to Fuchsia today so I had Riolu practically crawling into my jacket as we flew as she hadn’t properly dried off like I told her too.

Oh well.

—--

“Today is the first day of the rest of your lives.” I called out, stalking back and forth in front of my team. “You’ve gone through battles. You’ve honed your energy, and you’ve grown stronger, but today we break all of your limits. Then we break the limits you think you have after that. Then Blissey will break you again just to make sure you’ve truly reached your limits.” I said seriously and all the baby team were staring at me in avid attention. The older team were watching, most looking amused at what was going to happen, which didn’t reassure the babies.

The only ones not here were the Vulpix Skulk. As none of them were ready for Gravity training.

I met each of the babies eyes, even Gible was here, although she was, as always just vibing. And also not taking part just yet, but she’d be getting her own special training today.

Instead I nodded at each of them.

“All of you are as ready as you can be for what comes next, but none of you are ready. That’s what training is for. That’s what we are doing today, and tomorrow and the week after. Today is the day I start making you ready. There will be no slacking. There will be no weakness allowed, because today you aren’t training to face another pokemon. Today you train to fight the world.” I closed my fist and at the same moment Blissey activated Gravity. My hair ruffled, my feet pressed into the earth.

The babies each of them went flat against the earth and cried in shock.

Jangmo-o gasped, his legs splayed. Dratini matched him, completely swirled around unable to raise his head. Mimikyu cried out as well, his costume creaking. Goomy just splatted across the floor, but that was like super cute. Then there was Riolu.

“Riii! Rio!” She cried out as she tried to push herself up but wasn’t able to even shift from the ground.

“Alright!” I called out loudly hoping to startle all of them. “Relax! Breath! Stop pushing! You aren’t used to this weight, and you need to get used to it. So just breathe!” I called out, walking over and checking on all of them. Goomy and Mimikyu seemed particularly affected, but I just gave them words of encouragement, and told them to keep breathing and try to get used to it.

“R-ri?” I glanced over and saw Riolu looking at me her eyes wide. I walked over and settled down in front of her. Crossed legs and settled easily on the grass.

“What you thought me being able to fight you was just a fluke?” I asked her, and her eyes looked at me in shock as I reached out and poked her right in the nose. “Boop.”

“Ri!? Rio!”

“I don’t know. If you want me to stop you should be strong enough to stop me.” I told her and booped her again. Her nose twitching and squirming trying to avoid my finger, but she wasn’t moving.

Hehehehe.

Was I going to torture Riolu for a little bit? Well, only a little. “Boop.”

“Riiiii!”

“Hmph.” I scoffed at her, and then reached over, adjusting myself and doing it carefully, cause everything weight a lot right now, I lifted Riolu up much to her shock as she could barely twitch and then rolled her over so she wasn’t just face planting but instead on her back and staring up at the sky.

Then I took a moment to stand over her and looking down.

“There. That’s what you should be looking at, not the ground, not the failure. But the future. That’s where we’re going Riolu.” I said pointing into the sky.

And then I nodded and walked away.

She needed time to get used to it, and I wanted to support everyone.

Glancing up I smiled as Dragonite was helping Gible. Well… Trying to anyways. Walking Gible through using Dragon Rage, over and over, to see if she could get it.

I’d go give some emotional support to Gible too, but for now the rest of the team needed it. Glancing at Blissey I nodded and she smiled and sent me a thumbs up. Blissey was already jogging in place as a light workout, and I just laughed.

Blissey really was a monster.

—--

“Goooo-My!” Brave groaned out as she crawled across the grass. She was twice as wide as she normally was and only half as tall, but she was making progress. Adapting to the Gravity.

“You got it Goomy, just a little more, and then rest again!” I shouted out encouragement, and she squirmed, grunting out cute little noises before finally reaching the goal, my other hand, and then slumping.

“Good job Goomy. You’re doing amazing.” I told her, as I rose up. She’d rest for a bit under Gravity and we’d pull her out, to get a snack and some rest, Blissey would check them with Healing Pulse and then we’d start all over again.

I glanced to the next one. Jangmo-o was crawling but only one foot at a time and it was tottering. So I walked over in front of him, and stomped my foot legs spread.

“Haaakaa!” I challenged him, slapping my thigh, and then doing it to the other. “Mo-o!” I challenged, and the reminder of what Jangmo-o was fighting for caused him to push forward, a step, then another, until his head jammed into my chest.

“Good job buddy.” I whispered as I held him up, his poor little limbs quivering at the effort. “Let’s take a break, okay?” I said carefully adjusting him and hefting him up grunting as I did so. He wasn’t too bad normally, but everything was super heavy right now.

Walking carefully I made it out of the Gravity field with a sigh and then walked over and placed Jangmo-o next to Mimikyu. Poor guy, his costume hadn’t quite held up internally, and I could hear him re-snapping it all back together as I placed a limp Jangmo-o down.

“Take a break, rest, and get a snack and something to drink.” I ordered petting him behind his head scale, as I rose up and walked back in, only a minor hitch in my stride showing I was back inside.

To my annoyance, there was one pokemon that was performing the best.

“Riolu! Good job, but take a break.” I told her as I walked past, she was hunched down and taking each step, but she was definitely performing the best.

“Ri-Olu!” She grunted out and I just snorted.

“Overdoing it will just set you back. Head to the rest station and get something to eat and drink.” I ordered and she looked at me like she wanted to argue, but… Well the irresistible urge to face plant into the earth was taming some of that energy of hers. She nodded and then made the slow turn to head to the rest area.

I walked on.

“Tired out?” I asked, and Dratini opened his eyes to look at me. Then he whistled innocently, as he rose up and started slowly wiggling across the grass… That’s odd he should be way more tired out… “Were you using rest? You little sneak!” I laughed when I figured it out and he sent me a laughy whistle. Even if it sounded a lot breathier than his normal noises as he slowly squirmed through the grass.

“Fine, but don’t rest inside the gravity field again. I don’t want you passing out in here, even if it’s on purpose.”

“Ti-Ni.”

“Alright. Good job.” I told him and he looked happy at me for a moment before moving again.

I looked over everyone and felt happy. This was going super well.

“What’s going on?”

“Wha-Stop!” I called out as Elizabeth was waaay too close! “Don’t move! At all!” I demanded and she froze looking shocked at how vehement I was being, but I slowly relaxed.

“What?”

“Just don’t move forward even another inch. Hold on, I'm coming.” I told her as I walked across to her and realized she was only a foot from learning what the earth tasted like. “I forgot to say we’re doing dangerous training for a while so it’s best if you stay out of the reserve.”

“Yeah that would be better to know beforehand.”

“Sorry.” I told her, actually meaning it. “I should tell everyone else as well. I don’t want any accidents.”

“What are you doing?” She asked, and I looked at her for a moment… I shouldn’t say, at least if I was using the common sense of this world but…

I kinda liked Elizabeth.

“Super secret ultimate training. One of the reasons my pokemon are so strong.” I explained and she looked at me, obviously very curious at that.

“Seriously?”

“Seriously. The babies are finally getting their hyper training, so they can be super strong.”

“And it’s dangerous?” She asked, and I looked at her seriously for a long while.

“Do you want to know?”

“I mean, yeah obviously? Your pokemon are amazing.”

“You can’t tell anyone.”

“Family secret, I get it.” She said, and our eyes locked.

“Go get your team. They can take part. Blissey won’t mind the extra pokemon to torture.”

“Torture?”

“I’m joking… Mostly.”

She turned and ran before I could say anything else, which was a bit surprising until she came back out with her pokeballs around her hip and looking excited.

Heh.

“Okay first you have to understand what they are going through… It’s gonna suck.”

“Okay?”

“So just walk over here, stop here… Yeah it’s right here.” I said moving my arm back and forth a bit to get the edge of the field. “Now slowly, and keeping yourself as stable as possible step forward, try not to faceplant.”

“What is-Iiiiiiit!?” She squealed as her entire body rocked and she nearly instantly had her knees start to buckle, I was there holding her up and slowly lowering her to the grass. Very slowly she managed to wheeze out a question. “Wh-at?”

“Gravity. That’s the secret to my training. Blissey, and a few other pokemon can learn a move called Gravity. Normally it really just knocks flying types to the ground, hard to fly when you are so heavy right?” I asked her and she just kept wheezing, unable to really respond. “Ah just breathe normally, and don’t struggle against it, it’s not really enough to hurt you, even if it feels like it. Just breathe.”

“Can-t!”

“You can. Just breathe. Anyways, You’ve heard of weight training and stuff? Well welcome to the greatest weight training of your life. Not just one muscle group at a time, or just a few pounds, but every muscle, every movement creating more resistance. You train in this, and nothing can stop you.”

“H-How, y-you a-are m-m-moving?”

“Training! Come on let’s step back a bit.” I helped, mostly just dragging Elizabeth back out of the Gravity field. Blissey having noticed, came jogging over and greeted us both with a happy wave and a look in her eyes.

Were her eyes sparkling at the thought of even more people to train?

I was doing my best to ignore it.

“How do you feel?”

“Like I was being crushed to death, how were you walking in that?”

“Training.”

“Yeah you said that.” She gasped out looking up. “That’s it? The reason your pokemon are so strong?”

“Pfft. That’s one reason. Training, diet, maximum care pre and post workout, and more. But it is one of the biggest reasons my pokemon are so physically overwhelming.”

“That’s crazy, it's so much. How do you even start?”

“Slowly, and that’s nothing Blissey is going easy on the babies. She’s gotten pretty good at controlling how heavy it is. She can do like way more than that.”

“Bliss-Blissey!” She waved her fin at me as if saying I should stop talking up her ego, but she was loving it for sure.

“I don’t… I’m not going to join the conference this year.” She said suddenly and I blinked as I looked at Elizabeth who was still sitting, panting on the grass. “I just… I realized… Even if I win, it wouldn’t really be what I want. There are other things I wanted to do, and so, I started them. Helping around the stable is fun, it’s an okay job you know?”

“Sure?”

“But… That doesn’t mean I don’t want to see my pokemon grow stronger… So… Please help me train my team!”

“Yeah sure. It’ll be good for my pokemon too.” I offered not just my words, but my hand as well. And Elizabeth slowly reached up and took it as I hauled her back to her feet. “But first, let’s get food and diet information. Blissey?”

“Bliss!” She agreed, looking super happy, and then rushed over to me, and started worming her fins in my bag, a moment later pulling out one of my notebooks and a pen. “Blissey!”

“Oh Blissey’s fired up. I hope you're ready. While you do that, I’m going back to keep my team training.”

“Umm. What do I do?”

“Nothing Blissey will explain!” I called out as I rushed off through the Gravity. Elizabeth's team were about to get full physicals and a dietary write up. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖

But for me? Back to my babies and getting them moving again.

“Okay that’s enough rest! Back in! Let’s go! If you can cross the entire field that’s the goal!”

“Riiiiiooooo!” Riolu cried from the grass, but she did clamber back to her feet and head back in.

—--

“I’m surprised you are staying for dinner Vicky.” Grandpa Roy said as I sat down. The Clan House dining table was surprisingly homey with a few extra seats for guests, but mostly just enough for the head clan.

“Well I was going to go home, but I needed to drag Elizabeth back inside…” I trailed off, Elizabeth who was face down on the table half asleep just grunted as everyone looked at her.

“What were you girls doing out there anyways?” Uncle Leo asked, as he looked over how messy I looked, and Elizabeth looked wrecked.

“Training!” I chirped at the same time Elizabeth grunted something that sounded similar.

“Some training.”

“It’s my super secret Hyper Training.” I said in a whisper to the man.

“She’s not human.” Elizabeth finally said clearly, rising up with a groan. “I think she’s a Machop or something.”

“Rude.”

“Then don’t be a Machop. The fact you are able to just do that… Ugh.”

“Well you’ll get used to it.”

“I doubt that.”

“Sounds intense.”

“It’s the most insane training I’ve ever heard of.” Elizabeth said breathlessly, as she looked at me, like she was looking at me for the first time. “I can’t even be angry that you beat me now. That… Is something else.”

“Oh?” Grandpa Roy said, cutting through the confusion. “The training that made Vicky so strong, sounds interesting.”

“No.” Elizabeth said cutting right through. “If you learn about it, you have to do it, and trust me, you don’t want to die. I don’t want to die. Think I could get the information psychically removed from my brain?”

“I know Sabrina.” I offered, but everyone else just laughed at Elizabeth's statement.

“I’ll happily not know then!” Grandpa Roy offered chuckling as Melissa walked in with the meal, and started passing out food to everyone.

“Eat more.” I said as Elizabeth grabbed her portion, she blinked and looked at me.

“You just did an intense workout. Trust me. Eat more.” I ordered, and then scooped up my own much lighter portion.

“I’ll get more then.” She decided after a moment. “It would be an amazing diet though.”

“Nah, you’d probably die.”

“No dying.” Melissa ordered and that got Elizabeth eating.

—--

“Alright, come on.” I demanded, and Riolu grunted at me, as she stood mostly upright in the Gravity.

“You think just because you got used to it you're done?” I asked her, and then much to the slowly growing horror on her face I took out the boxing pads from my bag. Putting them on my hands I held up my hands. “Come on.”

“Rio!”

“Yes in Gravity, what, you think you’re just going to stand there? Look at Arcanine.” I pointed out and Riolu did. Arcanie was currently running around in circles around the others literal circles. She wasn’t doing it to be mean, she just wanted to play and she barely even noticed the Gravity at this level. It was just enough to give her a light workout.

“Luuuu.”

“Don’t whine. Come on, you punch the pads. Back and forth, let’s go.”

She grunted and raised her fists, although even that was enough to leave her arms shaking as she stalked over as best she could and threw a fist. I barely even felt it.

“Good. Keep going.” I demanded, and she was already breathing heavily, she threw her left fist, and it thunked lightly into the pad.

“Again.”

“Riooooo!” She instead cried, and I just watched as she pouted.

“Your Mama didn’t complain this much. She went through this alone. Just on her own pushed to her limits. And here is her daughter whining after just-” I was cut off as Riolu slammed a fist into my glove, with a nice thunk. I nodded, sending her a proud look.

She looked at me half angry and half serious.

“Again.”

“Riolu.” She swung her fist.
