The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 172: Zarchary’s End (Part 2)
’Your skill isn’t weak,’ Cynthia always heard her father say – how was it not weak? She could only conceal herself and blend into her surroundings, how was it suited for her occupation as a Cavalier? A Cavalier was supposed to fight on their opponents head-on but her awakened skill only concealed her, it made her choice to be a Cavalier seem like an unsuitable one, her skill fit the job of an Assassin much better.
Her fellow mates had skills that could supplement the ability of their weapon, give them an amazing amount of control over soul energy – the potential for skills were limitless, yet she had gotten a mere stealth skill.
’What you need to do is to hone your skill – it might seem weak to you but the world is a place where boundless opportunities are born,’ Cynthia’s Dad had told her, ’You hone your skill through battles, you change it and use it in a way that is unique to you – none of us are the same in this world,’
#####
Cynthia blinked, getting behind Zarchary. She was thankful for her Father’s words, pushing and motivating her to practice this and hone her skill – she had accepted that it made her more like an assassin but that didn’t relent the various opportunities she was given on the battlefield because of it.
Zarchary looked at his sliced wrist, he tried to follow what had cut through his wrist but no matter how far he sensed or how much he looked, he couldn’t find her. The others weren’t relenting as well, Olivia seeing the opening fired several bolts of lightning at Zarchary who had lowered his guard.
The Demon prepared to move but the irregular soul energy that had slashed him earlier appeared once again, the blade moving toward his neck – Cynthia was going for a quick kill, she wasn’t hesitating.
’While using Stealth, I can’t attack with too much soul energy,’ Cynthia thought as her blade neared Zarchary’s neck, her soul energy flowing across the weapon, ’If I lace my weapon with too much soul energy in the middle of an attack, my Stealth will be deactivated,’
When using the skill before, she had avoided pouring the amount of soul energy that would result in her cover being blown but she soon learned that the slash packed with soul energy would be much faster than any other slash she could make, and the soul energy around it would be more powerful than before.
Zarchary moved out of the way, vanishing much to Cynthia’s annoyance though the girl’s eyes flashed as she saw the bolts of lightning moving toward her, before Cynthia could even think about moving – Olivia manipulated the bolts of lightning to move toward Zarchary that was running now, heading toward Mika.
Olivia gritted her teeth, every second she participated in this battle – she was forced to adapt, to control her attacks better, to correct any errors that she made... she wasn’t the only one growing, everyone else was having their own fair share of growth.
Rem moved closer to the barrier, walking past the others who had remained outside the barrier while doing so – he didn’t bat an eye at them, they didn’t have any combat capabilities that would even fare against someone like Zarchary.
"Rem!" Megan cried out, seeing the Apprentice in ragged clothes. Rem looked at her and gave her a small smile before walking through the barrier, his original plan was still valid – they had been able to weaken the Demon he would have had trouble defeating at full power.
’He’s only weakened to this point because he allowed them play around,’ Rem thought, if Zarchary had even been a little bit serious and decided to finish them all off – things would have been different but now even his demon body was riddled with fatigue and any magical attacks he tried to use to take out the others would be countered by Tero who would absorb it with an orb.
Zarchary’s eyes fell on him and a smirk spread across his lips. In that moment, he had left himself open and there were a lot of people that would want to take advantage of it.
"Mons-"
"Don’t let your guard down," Olivia said, she had hit Zarchary with a full powered thunderbolt and he was sent rolling – the demon stood up once again and charged at Rem, pink tendrils encircling it’s back.
’He seems to hold a lot of hate for me,’ Rem thought as he assumed a combat stance, ’Is it because he hates the Monster Monarch or because he hates me for killing his comrades?’
The others had stopped attacking the Demon, letting him rush at Rem. Even Tero dispersed his own magic, staring unbelievably at Rem who stood a little distance away from the Demon – tears threatened to rush down the Apprentice’s cheeks, he was glad that his friend was alive...
The pink tendrils spiraled through the air, shooting toward Rem who stood fearlessly. He still had to hold out his power as he didn’t want to overwhelm the people watching.
The tendrils continued moving, they were about fifty yet Rem hadn’t moved from his position. He kept observing the tendrils, his crimson eyes roaming around their figures and when they were finally a considerable distance in front of him – he struck.
The tendrils shattered apart in an instant, the magical energy used to create them dispersed into the air as Rem had vanished – he appeared in front of Zarchary who was wide-eyed at the development, all of the tendrils he had used to target Rem were gone and he was left wide open.
’The feeling... that look in his eyes... Has he reawakened?’ Zarchary thought as Rem swung his fist into the demon’s face, black sparks of lightning erupting from it and reality shattering around both of them.
Mika clenched her fist, gritting her teeth as she observed what Rem had just done.
’He did it... on command,’ Mika thought, she hadn’t seen him tense up – he was perfectly calm...
