The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 171: Zarchary’s End (Part 1)
If Cole felt anything right now, it would be confusion – He didn’t understand how Rem emerged from the ground of a fallen mountain and began moving toward the Camp where the others were... He didn’t have any words to describe what was going on and he wasn’t the only one that felt the same, the others were also conflicted as well but they knew once they got to their destination, they would get the answers they so urgently desired and it filled them with determination, amidst the distant crackling of lightning and the danger that the battlefield presented.
Cynthia stared at Rem’s back; they were barely able to keep up with his speed. They had spent their time in the dungeon, trying to survive despite the odds stacked against them – she still remembered how she had been poisoned on the first day they had been separated from the others, she owed Krista her life and she had grown closer to the Beastkin, taking her as a close friend. Someday, she hoped that she would be able to pay back the debt she owed but Rem hadn’t left her mind for even a minute, she had always thought of how he was doing and how he was surviving the dungeon... she trusted that he wouldn’t be killed by something as menial as towering monsters, but she was seeing him now and she couldn’t even talk to him.
Krista gritted her teeth, from a glance, something was wrong with Rem and she wanted to find out but no matter how much she willed her legs, they couldn’t go fast enough to reach Rem – he was several times faster than her and it annoyed her greatly. They had been in the depths of the dungeon, pushing themselves to the brink, each day was a bid for survival and Krista as well as her companions had managed to push through, A Beastkin was very comfortable with areas like this because they were born to be wild, with each battle, their skills honed, their mistakes led to more growth and for Krista, she had been individually amazed by the amount of growth she had managed to achieve in the past few weeks yet her accomplishments were nothing in the face of Rem... She wanted to compete yet she couldn’t, she knew she was not strong enough.
They soon arrived at the camp and the scene was disastrous... the three Apprentices were fighting to the best of their ability but Zarchary proved to be a tricky opponent, he lasted longer than Rem would have thought but it was understandable since he now knew what Tero’s magic was, it didn’t matter who saw it but once someone was cleverly able to understand everything about Tero’s spell, it’s effectiveness dropped down as they knew they only had to avoid getting hit directly or avoiding the suction of the spell.
’Although the barrier, it’s a new one,’ Rem thought, he had already pulled to a stop after arriving at the camp – the other Apprentices had ran forward and aimed to enter the barrier, to see if they could do anything to administer help to their friends.
’He didn’t show me this in the cave,’ Rem thought, he could understood – Tero had still decided to play his cards close to his chest and he respected that, ’The barrier is peculiar because it doesn’t prevent people from entering,’
A regular magical barrier was supposed to seal off the outside and inside, preventing anything from entering or leaving but Tero’s barrier didn’t work like that – it certainly became unique in Rem’s eyes.
’Rather it pools all of its magical power into ensuring that nothing escapes from the barrier,’ Rem thought, such a barrier wasn’t hard to come by and he was glad that he was able to observe Tero in action with it, ’Maybe I can use this as a base to practice barrier magic,’
It didn’t hurt to practice other kinds of magic and considering that he planned on going to the Magus Institution, he needed to gain an understanding of the power without relying too much on Magic Diaries or the souls of Magus, although the Magic Diaries made mastering the spell easier – it didn’t stop the fact that they cost a fortune and Rem wasn’t willing to spend his silver coins on them.
Krista and her companions, Cynthia and Cole were able to enter the barrier effortlessly and launch several attacks at the demon.
"Soul Weaponization!" Krista cried out, her eyes taking on a violet glow as several weapons made of soul energy materialized in the air around her, shooting toward Zarchary at amazing speed.
Cynthia took out the sword from the sheath on her back and her eyes locked onto Zarchary who was avoiding the impalement of weapons upon him, with each step she took forward, soul energy spread all over her body – blending her in with her surroundings. Cynthia activated her Stealth skill and disappeared from sight, much to Mika’s surprise – she hadn’t seen this technique before.
Cole on the other hand held his two blades with vigor, his body turning into a blur as he closed the distance between himself and Zarchary in an instant, the rain of soul weapons had stopped and Zarchary had managed to dodge some of them, the others impaling into his skin.
His blades flashed in crimson, Cole held onto their chains – spinning both blades in front of him but Zarchary evaded that, his breath had turned heavy, fatigue was catching up with him but he couldn’t let his guard down one bit... Cynthia made an appearance beside him, her stealth rapidly vanishing as she swung her blade for the demon’s head. Zarchary raised his hand up to defend against it but he was unable to as the slash came down, coated with an unusual soul energy and sliced his wrist cleanly off... his eyes widened as a tendril shot out of his back, moving to impale Cynthia but the girl had already disappeared into thin air, vanishing from not only sight but senses.
