The Monster Monarch System-Chapter 173: Zarchary’s End (Part 3)
As Rem unleashed his Convergence, Zarchary who had been hit by a couple of convergences up until this point hadn’t felt something similar to this – the power he felt in this single strike was something he couldn’t compare to the others, the gap in strength was simply insane to think about.
Zarchary soared out of the lightning, his back crashing against the wall of the barrier, a small sizzling spark erupting upon collision. Magical energy surged around the spot where his back was lodged in, the auto-mechanism for the barrier.
Reality restored around Rem and he was still poised in a combat stance, one that challenged the Demon to step up and match him – the crimson eyes of the Apprentice shone and for the first time in a long while, Zarchary began to feel true fear bubbling up within him.
The fear he faced when he was almost killed by Tero was nothing compared to the one he felt right now, in the face of that attack, he knew he could survive but in the face of this one – this reawakened monster... he felt that he wouldn’t be able to survive.
Zarchary wiped the blood away from his nose, coughing as he stared at the others that were looking at him – each of the Apprentices staring him down with hate in their respective gazes. He realized that Rem would only be able to use a fraction of his true strength, unless he wanted to give off his identity or true strength to the people that were next to him.
’This means that there’s still a chance,’ Zarchary thought, the earlier confidence he had lost was blossomed and he was ready to fight again but that sharpened confidence was brought down again by Rem’s sharp movements, he began a sprint toward him which didn’t seem dangerous... Zarchary could at least follow Rem’s movements with his eyes but that was where everything normal ended, Rem’s fists were clad in crimson menacing soul energy that kept surging with passion.
Zarchary shot several crimson beams of energy forward but Rem weaved past all of them with an intense show of speed, his expression hadn’t changed once since the battle started – The Demon had seen him use Aegi’s power, use several spells, turn himself to a slime and even utilize Holy flames yet all those instances could not compare to what Zarchary was feeling right now.
Rem closed the distance and threw his fists forward, engaging a blitz and Zarchary did his best to evade the attacks that were thrown at him but he wasn’t able to do so. Rem was faster and stronger, each strike that connected felt like it was shattering his bones – bones that he had just regrown, he was able to dodge some lazy strikes that Rem had thrown but the ones that Rem devoted his effort into connected... the ground cracked as soul energy razed their surroundings, throwing caution to the wind.
’This battle is far much less than what I was honestly expecting,’ Rem thought – with his new power, he felt superior to Zarchary in every way.
Zarchary’s red beams made contact with the barrier and they were soon absorbed into the barrier, their magical energy being converted for future use.
Rem finished his blitz with a powerful punch to the face, blood streaming out of Zarchary’s nose and mouth as the Demon staggered backward. Zarchary brought his fist forward, throwing a powerful punch but Rem caught it and twisted Zarchary’s fist.
"That’s a weak punch," Rem said and gave a punch of his own, Zarchary shifted his head and dodged the punch – pulling away from Rem and losing his arm in the process.
Losing an arm wasn’t anything special to the demon, it wasn’t the first time today he had lost an arm and there was this certain feeling that it wouldn’t be the last time either but it didn’t look like Rem wanted to kill him yet. Rem moved closer, his lips moving as he drew closer to the Demon.
"Tell me and I’ll spare you," Rem muttered, his words unreadable by all except the Demon, "Do you have any other allies in this world?"
The Demons were far too many and far too intelligent for Rem to keep classifying them as Monsters. And they knew about him – the Monster Monarch, when others didn’t seem to have a record of it...
Zarchary shrugged, he didn’t see any harm in it – he didn’t believe Rem’s words about letting him go free but he didn’t have a choice now.
"Beyond Orion lies Sorin city, there are more demons within those quarters," Zarchary muttered in the same tone Rem used, unwilling to speak anymore. His eyes grew weary, he took a step back.
’Each and every one of us were granted access to forbidden archives for this mission,’ Zarchary thought, preparing to draw upon his own forbidden technique, ’Killing and disposing of the Monster Monarch is more harder than we thought, I should focus on retreating for now and informing the boss of what went on here,’
Rem kept staring at the Demon, contemplating the words that had been mumbled to him – Sorin city... that needed to be his next destination, to find more about these demons and how they knew about him. Soul energy burst to life around Rem’s fist and at the same time, purple aura coated around the demon – the aura had enough force to send even Rem skidding backward.
The barrier was shattered, unable to consistently absorb the energy that was surging within it.
The Demon didn’t waste any time, taking off and running as far away as possible – Tero wanted to chase after him but Rem had already given chase, his figure moving away from the camp.
Mika stared at his back, his soul energy, it felt entirely different but eerily familiar and this scene felt like it had happened before...
"Just like when Rem had saved us from Tobi," Mika muttered as her soul energy vanished, the power from her pink tattoo disappearing as well – she could only hope Rem could catch up with the Demon.

Rem chased the Demon down, even he was able to notice the changes that had just occurred.
’He probably used some forbidden technique, just like his Comrades,’ Rem thought, leaping over a broken pillar and moving after Zarchary – although they seemed beneficial to use, Rem couldn’t forget the fact that the set he currently had needed a sacrifice.
Rem stretched his palm forward, shadows shooting forward with speed surpassing even that of a bullet as they made their way to Zarchary. All of his spells had gained a considerable upgrade because of this new power boost and Rem liked it.
