Chapter 459: 458. Tell Or Not To Tell (3)

For the next two days, Davian had been going in and out of Ryujin while I stayed there to avoid Penny’s pestering about attending any social event. I had left a letter saying that I would be out till the year’s end and that she should send the rejection letters to the two events that I had said I’d attend.

I didn’t have any spare time to waste.

In the early morning, I received a call from Rune informing me about their safe journey to Denril. They had reached at the royal palace and Davian’s entourage was also there. Rune seemed a little suspicious as Davian himself wasn’t there but he didn’t ask anything.

I was relieved to hear them reaching safely so, I told him to enjoy his time there before I started my day.

I had to finish the paper work quickly before the beginning of today’s meeting. Since I had to make preparations of the Princes’ tests, I had changed the location of the meeting so, now instead of Oasis, the meeting was at Ryujin mansion.

Just as I was almost done signing the last few documents there was a knock on the door.

"Master, the Lords are here." Remi informed me and I hummed.

"Lead them to the conference room, I’ll be there. And don’t serve them alcohol even if they beg." I instructed.

"Yes, Master."

After finishing my work, I gathered the material required for today’s meeting and Roan stood up with the stuff that he needed to carry before we walked out of the office.

As we walked towards the conference room, I heard the sound of footsteps approaching me hastily along the spike in Aura.

"Ma-" Roan was about to say something when I heard the shouts behind me.

"Master!" I didn’t stop while Roan did.

"Keep walking," I told him and he hummed before he trailed behind me and Davian raced ahead to walk beside me.

"Master, I need to talk to you," he demanded as soon as he came up to me.

"I can’t now, I have a meeting with my vassals right now."

"I’ve been going crazy for two days!" He snapped and I heard a light cough behind me. I didn’t even need to turn to see Roan holding back his laughter.

"Hold on just for a few more hours," I said and he groaned loudly as he still kept up.

"Then, will you see me after the meeting?" He asked.

"Fine," I said and he stopped.

"Then, I’ll wait for you!" He hollered while I and Roan kept walking.

"What might be going on behind the scenes?" Roan spoke in a singsong voice and I rolled my eyes.

The doors of the conference room opened and I walked in. My vassals greeted me and I gave them a greeting back before I took my seat at the head of the table.

"I’m sorry for changing the venue on such a short notice." I said.

"No, it’s fine, rather it’s great to be here we can also talk to Young Master Kai if we’re at your mansion." Lord Devil aka Baron Oberon spoke up.

"Speaking of which, I didn’t see him when I arrived." Zach aka Lord Snake added, though for some reason, it seemed like he was his usual flamboyant self.

Lord Hawke aka Count Wallace cleared his throat, "We’re here for a meeting, you two. Please behave."

We started the meeting after that.

"I have three things to say today but first of there are any other matters anyone would like to discuss first please put it forth." I spoke.

The Lords looked at each other before Zach sighed and leaned ahead.

"There is a problem," he said.

"What is it?"

"For some reason, the animals in my territory are falling sick."

"Falling sick? How?"

"I don’t know if it’s water or the fodder, I had it checked but couldn’t find anything. And it’s strange because it’s making the animals to react pretty aggressively. Some of them had also died." He explained and I frowned.

"The estimated number of the infected animals only speaking in terms of cattle and horses, then it’s already predeeded 200 and around 30 have died." He said making me frown.

The numbers were concerning.

"Probably it’s because of a new fertilizer or a bug." Count Wallace suggested and Zach shook his head.

"No, I checked every other possibility that came to my mind, the only other thing that’s left is..."

"Foul play." Lord Devil prompted and Zach nodded.

"But, I can’t understand how or who could have done this."

I listened to this issue carefully before I sighed, "I’ll visit your territory this evening and see this problem myself."

"Pardon, today itself?" Zach gasped.

"Yes, I’ll explain the reason in a while." I said and then looked at the other two Lords.

"Do you have any concerns?" I asked them.

"No, but we’ll try to look more into this animal epidemic of Lord Snake’s territory." Count Wallace said.

"None on my side as well," Lord Devil said and I nodded.

"So, the first thing that I want to say is that I won’t be in Sestia for around two weeks starting tomorrow."

The three looked at me quizzically but didn’t interrupt as I continued.

"I’ll be going to Denril as Prince Davian’s chaperone at the Peace Treaty Celebration Ball," I announced making them look visibly surprised.

"But the ball is in two days, Master. How will you manage to get there in such a short time?" Count Wallace.

"Besides, I heard that Montaire family’s entourage had reached Denril already. Wasn’t he with them?" Lord Devil asked.

"He is here at the moment," I said.

"Here? As in, in Ryujin mansion?" Zach asked.

"Yes, he insisted that I be his chaperone but I had work so, we had to delay our departure." I explained.

"That’s quite strange, usually, the young men and women have someone from their family or relatives to be their chaperone." Count Wallace spoke.

"Well, Master is still the best chaperone Prince Davian could get, rather he was smart enough to get Master to go along while the other Princes couldn’t." Zach chuckled.

His playfulness strangely felt forced, it just gave me a clear image of how concerned he was about the issue in his territory.

"Anyways," I spoke bringing them back to the topic.

"Since I won’t be available here, I want to assign you all an important task." I said.

"We’ll do whatever you say Master,"

"Your word is our command."

I glanced at Roan who stepped ahead and distributed the bundle of papers to the three.

"What’s this?" Lord Devil mumbled as he flipped the pages and then his eyebrows jumped.

"This is the plan I made to test the Princes," I answered.

"The tests will be starting at the end of the first month of new year, the Princes will have enough time to adjust by then as I have made specific rules and duties for them." I said and then gestured at the papers.

"There will be three major tests but they will still require quite preparations, since I couldn’t do it personally, I’m asking for your help."

The three read through the material and I could see the satisfactory smiles on their faces.

"These tests are pretty well thought, and I like it that the Princes will not get any special treatment throughout the time period whatsoever." Count Wallace smiled.

"Not only that but the masses will be witnessing it all so, there’s less chances of any foul play or someone trying to influence the tests." Lord Devil nodded.

"But there are some things which might create some friction." Zach muttered.

"I understand that, but again, I’ve thought about it from every possible perspective and the King has bestowed his authority on me so, I can just do whatever I want as long I don’t skin Carlos alive." I shrugged making my vassals chuckle.

"Even if you did, you can just heal him and rip him apart again." Lord Devil shrugged.

I shook my head with a smile before I stepped on to the last issue of the day.

"The last thing I want to say is... please look carefully after your territories and cities." I said making them give me curious looks.

"I’ll see what the problem is in Lord Snake’s territory but recently there had been a strange incident in Oasis as well that’s why, it’s possible that something might happen while I’m not around." I explained.

This made them grow a bit tensed.

"May I ask what kind of incident, Master?" Lord Devil asked.

I sighed, "Kai was almost kidnapped."

They all almost shot out of their seats as they stared at me with wide eyes.

"It happened during the Princes’ parade and I... haven’t found out who instigated it so, I’ll ask you all to keep an eye out for anything unusual."

They were harried after hearing it and I could see that they had a lot of questions but I didn’t have much answers for them.

"I’ll just say that some enemy might be making a move in the dark and we need to be ready for them. I know it will be a bit hard to keep a track of everything so, Roan." I turned to Roan making him step ahead.

"Yes, Master."

"Assign the extra hands to their territories to help out." I said.

"Yes, Master."

The three didn’t seem relieved and Zach ended up asking.

"But now that Master is leaving, what if Young Master Kai is in danger again?" He asked.

"He has a device on him now that triggers in the time of distress and I will instantly be teleported to him in an instant so, if anything does arise, I’ll be back to handle it." I explained but they still looked anxious.

"I’ll send you all each the devices just in case of emergency." I announced.

With that the meeting ended, and I coukd see Zach being still very tensed. I couldn’t help but worry so, I decided to just teleport to Zach’s territory right away after I had lunch.
