The Kingmaker System-Chapter 460 - 459. Tell Or Not To Tell (4)
Chapter 460: 459. Tell Or Not To Tell (4)
Davian’s impatience was leaking several meters around his room. I could hear him tapping his foot as he waited for me.
As soon as I knocked on the door it flew open and Davian stood there.
"Master, come in!" He spoke as he whipped around and walked over to the chair patting its headrest.
"Here, sit here!" He insisted and I sighed.
I could already see why he was so worked up.
I went over and sat down calmly crossing my legs and folding my arms at my chest while he fidgeted around.
"What-"
"Master, where’s Miss Reina? Did you send her off somewhere? Is it a mission? Or something other work?"
Before I could ask him what he wanted he bombarded me with the questions. I knew he wouldn’t stop with the stalking so quickly, and me as Reina not being at Aurelius would easily bring him back to me as Ocean for answers.
He most likely must think she’s my secret agent at this point.
"She’s-"
"She’s not at home since two days, she’s not even at the Oasis Foundation administrative building, she’s not even at her friend’s place so, where is she?!"
"You... went and checked my Oasis administrative building and even her friend’s place? How do you even know her friends?"
"That’s not the point, Miss Reina doesn’t have many friends to begin with and the only person that she sends letters to is Miss Brielle Nash, daughter of Count Wallace Nash but she wasn’t there. Where is she?!"
I sighed, this guy was slowly crossing the limits here. If it were a real oblivious girl then I would be feeling kind of pity for her.
"How-"
"Even her maids are worried about her as she only left a letter!"
"How do you know that?!" I asked.
"I heard them crying about it as their Lady up and disappeared again!"
I sighed, feeling as if I’d aged twenty years already.
"Your Hi-"
"You haven’t sent her off to a dangerous place, have you? When will she return? Is she there alone? If you tell me, I promise, I won’t go look for her. So, please-"
I felt something snap, maybe it was the strong of my patience because my Dragon’s Presence surged out like an untamed beast making him gasp as his aura was completely overtaken.
"First of all, Your Highness, it is wrong to stalk a lady like this. You went to her home, her workplace and even till her friend’s house, how is any of that acceptable?!" I spoke as his face grew pale.
"Secondly, what right do you have to demand me of her whereabouts? I understand that you like her but you haven’t even confessed to her so what you’re doing is clearly invasion of her privacy! And since she’s my family, I ought to protect her dignity here!" I spoke firmly.
Davian looked down as if a puppy who was kicked, my Dragon’s Presence slowly subsided and he fell to his knees.
"But... how else could I see her? I don’t even let her know of my presence I simply watch her from afar and don’t disturb her. I don’t even let the other people around her notice me. I’ve been waiting for so long to finally see her and even after meeting her again, I can’t be with her..." He sniffled making my eyes go wide.
"Your Highness... a-are you crying?" I asked and he sniffled again.
"I’m not." He whimpered and I felt a jab at my chest.
I ran my hand over my face as I watched him kneel beside the armchair, I reached out and put my hand over his head gently ruffling his hair.
Why the hell was I getting weaker when he was acting like this? There was a random psychological fact that I had heard that you automatically generated a soft spot in your heart for someone if they tell you that they like you, was this what it was?
"I understand that... but you should also understand that there are things that you can’t do and for your information, Reina is extremely sharp and she can pick mana and aura presence in the air even if it’s faint so, she knows you’re stalking her." I said and he flinched.
"Sh-She knew I was there since the beginning...?"
"Yes, she would tell me everytime she sensed you around thinking I have sent you out. But then again, she hated someone keeping an eye on her so, she told me that she was going for a small vacation till her father and brother returns." I said and he gasped.
"Sh-She was scared because of my stalking so she went away?!" He looked at me with glistening, teary eyes.
"Sh-She didn’t exactly leave because of you..." I sighed removing my hand from his head.
"Then what?!" He sniffled.
I couldn’t look directly into his puppy dog eyed as I averted my eyes and said.
"Well, she also needed to prepare for the work that’s to come in New Year that’s why she has gone to her secret house."
"Secret house?!" He perked up.
"Yes, well, when she was young she used to go to this countryside manor to recuperate and after she got better she used to travel there because it’s quiet and nobody disturbs her there." I lied and he nodded as if understanding.
"So, what’s this work that will come in New year?" He asked.
"You’ll know about that later as of now, she needed to focus that’s why she left. That’s all I can say." I said and he slumped his head over the handreat of my armchair.
"Is she offended by my presence?" He asked.
"If you know that you did wrong then just apologise, Your Highness." I said finding myself ruffling his hair again.
It was oddly comforting, patting his head like that, it was like I owned a big dog... Or wait, a big beast, to be precise.
"But I don’t even know where she is..." He whimpered.
"Then do it when we return."
"But what if she doesn’t want to see me?"
"Stop overthinking!" I snapped.
He looked up at me and I could see he’s far gone in this love of his that there was no way I could do anything. Sooner or later, he might take me down with him if I’m not careful.
"Are you sure she won’t be mad at me?"
"That’s for her to decide," I said ruffling his hair, "you shouldn’t do anything that makes her feel scared of you, so, after we return make a strategy on how you’ll try to get close to her. Don’t rush or it will backfire. Do you understand?"
His eyes glistened with the mixture of hope and admiration.
"Master... Will you be the Best man for my wedding?" He asked and I almost choked on air.
"D-Don’t go around fantasizing of so far!"
He chuckled as he relaxed and I sighed. This guy was bad for my health.
"All right, now that we’re done, I have some work, I’ll leave." I said as I stood up and Davian also got to his feet.
"Are you headed to your office?" He asked.
"Nope, there’s a problem in one of my vassals’ territory so, I’m going to check?"
"What is it about?" He asked.
"The livestock and other animals are falling sick, some have died. Whatever it is, it has not affected humans yet, but since they’ve checked everything I need to go and see what the problem might be." I explained as I walked to the door.
"Should I go along?" He asked.
"Hm? Why?" I asked and he just shrugged.
"I don’t have any work, all my entourage had already left so, there’s no preparations to be made." He said and I pondered over it.
Well, it would be better to take him, if he sat around and suddenly had the feeling of going around looking for Reina then it wouldn’t be good.
"Fine," I said and he beamed.
After lunch, we teleported to Zach’s territory. We landed right in his office making his aide almost collapsed while he rushed to us.
"Master! You’re here! And even Prince Davian." He bowed.
"How are things?" I asked.
"I had already quarantined all the infected animals so, I’ll take you there." He said and I nodded.
Davian and I walked behind Zach as he led us out of the mansion towards the large arena that seemed to hold around 500 people at once.
The sounds of the groaning and moaning of the animals made the air fill with the thickness that made me wonder if there was death in the air. It wasn’t new to be in the place like this since I had traveled Denril where the plague was spreading and I had been in the barns and places where the dying people were stuffed.
"The people had been worried sick and sending me letters about their animals..." Zach spoke.
The playfulness was completely gone from his eyes and it was replaced by the helplessness that he couldn’t do anything for his people.
"Don’t be worried, let’s see what’s wrong." I said patting his back and he looked at me, his eyes glistening.
We walked over to the empty space where the animals were placed and I gestured for the two to stay out as I walked in myself.
Once inside, I could see the black tears running down the eyes of the cattle and horses, some were retching up blood while some had the black rashes on their bodies.
This didn’t seem like a normal disease, it seemed like something serious. I didn’t know what but I had a very bad feeling.
Regardless, I went ahead and collected some sample for further study on it and then casted the Supreme Healing spell on the large scale for all the animals.
