Chapter 447: 446. The L Word Problem (1)

I didn’t even remember how I returned back home but for the two days, I couldn’t recover from the shock after realising that the lady that Davian kept speaking about so dreamily and the lady I’d been trying to learn about—the one who’d somehow tamed Davian—was me all along.

I’m sure the ones who would know would be rolling all over laughing at my ignorance and stupidity. Especially Roan—he’d never let me live it down

But then again, it wasn’t like Davian liked Ocean, he liked me- Reina. That was way worse, I wasn’t ready to bring anyone in the circle of my trustworthy people.

But wait, Lady Dahlia knew of my secret and for some reason, I didn’t lie that much to Davian, if that wasn’t the case then he was very much capable of spotting me in the crowd hundreds even while I was in a disguise.

I shook my head shoving away the thoughts, this was just an anomaly, it shouldn’t affect me too much besides, I should return to Ryujin. It could be possible that he ended up giving me that bracelet because I gave him such a good advice and because it was my birthday.

[Goddess of Wisdom says that’s a lame excuse.]

[Defender of Divine Glory asks you to not be ignorant.]

[Giver of Gifts hopes that-]

"No, you don’t say anything! Your hunches come true!" I shouted before Giver of Gifts could say anything.

It was true that I was trying to run from this situation, it was uncharacteristic but romance and relationships were never on my plate before. In both my lives I’d had no experience with it, and if I did end up indulging myself it would have a bad ending for sure.

With the stuff I was already involved in, my life was already on line for years along with those of my people. I couldn’t afford to be distracted. Besides, even if I did accept Davian’s feelings, I might never be completely honest with him.

I would lie, I would make use of him, I would still end up seeing him as nothing more than a pawn or a man with the position that would help me.

I couldn’t ever give him the love that he deserved. I didn’t want to stoop so low so, it was better that I maintained my distance.

With my resolve made, I decided to leave Aurelius to return to Ryujin to handle some work.

"Eh, My Lady? Are you off to somewhere?" Penny asked as she entered my room with a box in her hands while I was starting to take off my nightgown.

I had done nothing but sleep and think in the while that I was at Aurelius. I also ended up bringing back Davian’s cloak, I had to return it to him somehow but I didn’t want to face him as Reina.

"Ah, yes, I have some work." I said and she tilted her head before placing the box in her down on the table.

"You have letters, My Lady." She said and another maid walked in with a basin of water.

"Huh?" I narrowed my eyes looking at the box full with envelopes.

"Burn them," I said making Penny gasp.

"What?"

I splashed my face with the lukewarm water and turned to look at her.

"These people have no other work but to drink tea and gossip I don’t have that kind of time to waste." I said as I removed my nightgown and donned a shirt and trousers.

"But, My Lady!"

The story around the mansion about my usual disappearance was of course my "weak" body but only my personal two maids knew that I had some other work. Not the exact details but just that it had nothing to do with my health.

"I’m leaving," I said as I grabbed Davian’s cloak.

"But, My Lady... These many letters..."

"Like I said, I don’t have time."

"That’s not a reason, My Lady! You’re a young Lady of Aurelia Duchy you should be making connections." Penny insisted as she blocked my way.

I sighed running my hand through my hair, "Penny, I have enough connections right now."

"But you need friends too!"

"I have a lot of friends." I lied smoothly and she seemed to be on the verge of crying.

"Honestly, you had ten times the letters that I brought but Young Duke already sorted a lot of them and only let these many pass through. I wasn’t going to tell you but now you’re ignoring these as well, why, My Lady? You’re a young Lady you must have aspirations and happiness to spend your fleeting youth with the same aged people but you keep working. It’s so sad!" She cried as she tugged at my coat getting on her knees and I couldn’t help but feel slightly bad for her.

Besides, whoever said my youth was fleeting?

"Penny," I sighed and she looked at me with teary eyes.

"Please, can’t you at least attend at least 5 of the events?"

"5?!"

"Then how about 3?"

"Are we bargaining here?" I shouted as I tried to pry my coat off of her grip without using too much force to not break her wrist or tearing the fabric.

"Can’t you at least do that much, My Lady?! You can just go and make one friend at this event!" She cried and I sighed feeling my patience thinning.

"Let go!"

"No, please promise me, My Lady! I’ve devoted my life to you—I can’t bear to see you wasting away your youth like this. You’re a young lady, for God’s sake—not a man!"

After a long debate, I had to agree to accept three invitations if I had to leave for work. I grabbed the three letters which were at the top and handed them to Penny.

"Here, I’ll attend these. Can I go now?"

"Yes, I’ll be waiting for you in evening, My Lady." She chirped and I sighed.

I teleported to Ryujin mansion right to my mansion nearly giving Roan who was in there a heart attack.

"What the hell?!" He shouted but then his eyes widened as he saw me.

I sighed, "What’s-" the feminine voice made me realise.

Ah, I teleported without changing my form, I brushed my fingers over my earstud and changed into my Ocean’s disguise.

I plopped down on my seat while Roan sat in his seat with flushed red face.

"Was... that how... you look in reality?" He asked and I looked at him.

"Yes,"

He put his head down on his table.

"How do the people around you handle that?"

"Hm? I don’t stick around people."

"Won’t they suffer from heart problems if you do?" He asked and I hummed before I placed the cloak down.

"It’s a good thing that the others are on a day off today or you would have given them a heart attack." He said and then staggered up to his feet.

"L-Let me take a break. I’ll come back in a while."

"All right," I said.

He wobbled out of the door and I sighed leaning back looking at the nearly folded cloak that now sat on my desk. I should hand it back to Davian, it would be all right, it’s not like he knew-

The doors burst open.

"Master, I have something to talk to you about!" Davian barged in shouting.

For some reason, it shocked me, I didn’t even realise his Aura spike when he approached.

"Ah... Hm..." I managed to utter watching him.

He closed the doors behind him and walked over to me and took a seat on the chair before me.

"I’m sorry!" He spoke, "I... know I must have sounded rude back then when I said that you seemed unfazed by the incident... But I was really worried about Kai and it is a big thing if your child- a Dragon is almost kidnapped... I know you tend to handle things swiftly without people knowing but..."

I sighed, "I understand... I wasn’t angry at you."

He looked at me, "But you almost choke me with your presence back then."

"I know... I was quite disturbed at that time... I couldn’t think straight and you just had to say the wrong thing at the wrong time."

"Ah... Is that so? Sorry, Master." He said like an obedient child. How cute!

Wait, what?!

"Well, I feel so relieved now. It’s a good thing that I talked to you..." He smiled and I recalled the smile that he gave me-Reina that night.

"Uh... That’s good, here!" I said as I handed him his cloak.

"What’s this?" He asked as he took the cloak and then his eyebrows twitched, "Why do you have this?!"

His expression changed from relieved to cautious all of a sudden, "Why do you have my cloak, Master?"

"I got it from Young Duke," I lied, "He said since you’re at my place I should hand it to you."

"But..." He seemed like he was going to say something and then sighed.

"So... Did you give that gift to the lady you like?" I prompted and his cheeks turned red.

No, no, let’s hope-

"Yes,"

It felt like a jab but I didn’t let it show as he continued.

"Are you really sure you gave it to the lady you... like?" I asked.

He smiled, "Yes."

Another jab.

"Actually, she was the one who adviced me to come straight to you and talk... she’s always the one who gives me strength and helps me see everything clearer. It’s like she’s a ray of light when I’m lost in darkness..."

How could I ever handle this...?
