Chapter 446: 445. Debutante Drama (5)
It was a feminine voice that I heard, "I told you I don’t fancy you!"
"Why not? Do you even know who I am? You’ll greatly regret it." A man’s voice responded making me narrow my eyes.
The sounds were coming from the bushes and I could see the two figures near a tree.
"I don’t care, let go of me!" The girl cried.
"Think again, I’m a dear friend and partner of Marquis Ocean Ryujin, do you think your family would be safe if you rejected me?"
My dear friend and partner?
I looked around spotting Lyall who had been on a tree shadowing me. I had asked him to follow me to keep an eye on the people around in case a demon showed up.
He quickly came up to my side.
"You heard what he said," I spoke.
"Yes, Master."
"Find out his family and get rid of them." I spoke in an icy tone.
"Bankruptcy or disappearance?" He asked.
"Depends, he’s tarnishing my name." I said glaring at the man icily.
"I understand, Master." He said and I walked up to them as Lyall leapt away.
The man stood with his back to me so it was easy to sneak up on him, I walked behind him and just as he was about to grab the lady’s hand I swung my hand hitting him in the back of his neck knocking him out in an instant.
The girl shouted as she saw the man collapse and then looked at me with wide eyes. I recognised the girl, she was from a small noble family of Lord Oberon’s aka Lord Devil’s territory. She had long orange hair and bright teal green eyes.
"P-Princess Reina!" She gasped and I smiled at her.
"Are you all right?"
"Um, yes... But..." She seemed shaken as she saw the collapsed man.
"Don’t worry about him," I said as a man appeared dressed as an attendant and carried him away.
"Tha-Thank you for your help, My Lady but he..."
"You really don’t need to worry, My Lady. He’ll be sent home. And besides, I’m sorry that you had to see me do that." I chuckled.
"N-No! It was... quite dashing... the way you knocked him out."
I smiled, "My brother taught this self-defense move to me for the times when I would be in trouble."
"Is that so?" She smiled shakily.
"It’s all right now, he won’t pester you anymore." I assured her and she slowly relaxed.
"Besides, it’s cold out here why don’t you head inside?" I said gesturing to the palace.
"Ah, yes." She said as she took a couple steps towards the path that led to the palace before she looked at me.
"Aren’t you coming along?" She asked.
"I was feeling a little stuffy inside. I’ll stay out here for some fresh air." I said and she smiled. fɾeewebnoveℓ.co๓
"Is that so? Then, I’ll leave first. Thank you for your help again, Princess." She smiled as she curtsied before she walked away.
I sighed and ran a hand through my neck feeling slightly frustrated.
"Nothing ever goes a hundred percent well," I muttered as I got out of the bushes and made my way towards the gazebo that was a few meters away.
[Defender of Divine Glory says that nothing ever is perfect.]
"Says an archangel." I commented.
[Goddess of Wisdom congratulates you on finally turning eighteen and having your coming of age ceremony.]
[Giver of Gifts congratulates you on your coming of age and wishes you happy birthday.]
[Defender of Divine Glory congratulates you for coming this far.]
"You guys are late. The whole world has already congratulated me." I muttered as I climbed the marble stairs of the gazebo.
[Goddess of Wisdom says that they had been waiting for the end of the day to congratulate you.]
"What?"
[Giver of Gifts clarifies that they wanted to be the last ones to congratulate you and to remind you of how far you’ve come.]
[Defender of Divine Glory is proud of watching over you for so long.]
[Goddess of Wisdom is proud that she chose you.]
"Oi, stop taking the credit for that."
But then again, it had been a long time and I had come a long way. Now that I turn back and look at everything that had happened, I had made a lot of changes. I did have a couple of regrets but, the list of achievements was rather long.
"Well, thank you, my dear Patrons for supporting me. I hope we continue to go farther and see the end of this." I spoke and a cool breeze passed through me billowing the shimmering veil that flowed from my dress.
And I felt a presence behind me.
"Princess," I turned around and saw the one guy whom I hadn’t seen in the ballroom.
"Prince Davian." I spoke, surprised.
He looked... striking.
Dressed in a black coat trimmed with silver embroidery, he had a royal elegance that set him apart from the rest. Draped over one shoulder was a deep blue cloak, patterned with faint star-like designs that shimmered subtly. A pale gemstone brooch clasped his high collar, and his gloves were black, immaculate.
But it was his eyes—those sharp violet eyes—that held me still. There was no need for grand words. He simply stood there, gaze steady and unreadable.
"It’s pretty cold out here, My Lady. You’ll fall ill again." He said as he walked up the stairs removing his cloak and hesitantly placing it around my bare shoulders.
"Huh? What?" I was confused as he stared down at me.
I could see my reflection in his clear eyes which made me recall that I was in Reina’s form and not as Ocean so, there was no need for me to be awkward with him.
"Ah, thank you, Your Highness." I said as I pulled the warm cloak around me.
My eyes fell on the bracelet that Silas had gifted me to cloak my Mana Presence, with how sharp Davian was it would be a headache if he came to know that Reina and Ocean were the same people.
He nodded and stepped back looking slightly awkward now.
"How are you, Your Highness?" I asked with a smile.
"I’m... fine. But, what about you? Why are you out here alone?"
"Hm? Well, I felt a little suffocated inside so, I stepped out for some fresh air." I said.
He sighed, "You should still have carried a shawl or coat with you, My Lady. It’s almost winter."
I chuckled, "I’m sorry, I forgot."
He averted his eyes and then nodded, "No need to apologise,"
He seemed rather strange, was he upset again that his parents weren’t here to celebrate this day with him?
"I’m glad that I got to meet you though." I said with a smile making him flinch.
"Pardon?"
"Since it’s a day to celebrate both my coming of age and your achievements at war." I said.
"Besides, I didn’t see you in the ballroom, dancing." I added and he sighed.
"Well, I wasn’t."
I didn’t want to ask him the question of whether he was not asked for a dance by any lady. It would indirectly mean that I was insulting his appeal.
But then again, I didn’t have any other topic to talk with him about so, I thought of leaving.
"I’ll-"
"Um."
We both spoke at the same time and he gestured towards the white seats.
"Shall we sit down?"
"All right," I sat down without thinking much as he looked quite thoughtful and anxious. He stared off in the space for a moment making me wonder what was wrong. Was he really missing his parents? Or was he disturbed because he and I-Ocean weren’t talking?
"Is something the matter, Your Highness?" I asked and he blinked turning his gaze on me.
"Um... There’s nothing really, My Lady." He forced a smile and I tilted my head.
"If it’s something bothering you then you could tell me, Your Highness. I may not be able to give a solution over it but I’ll listen." I said with a smile.
Davian stared at me for a moment before he sighed running his hand through his hair, messing up the nicely fixed hair.
"I... Well... It’s actually about a friend of mine," he said and I leaned ahead.
He lowered his gaze, "After my parents, he’s the only person I have who understands me... Who doesn’t care about anything and treats me casually... But recently something happened and I made him angry... It was an incident which no one could have avoided but since he has a habit of solving everything so well with a calm and composed face that I... I thought that he wasn’t taking it seriously and I... I said something wrong to make him angry... And now he isn’t talking to me."
I smiled as I saw him agonizing over it, well, I didn’t know he would take it so much to his heart.
"I’m sure he’s not mad anymore and he will talk to you if you approach him." I said and he shook his head.
"He... He’s someone who already has a lot of people... I’m just one of them. To be honest, if he thinks that I’m of no use to him then he wouldn’t even think about me." He said and I felt kind of guilty.
Well, he wasn’t that off the target... But then again, whoever said I didn’t think about him at times? Just a while ago I was thinking of Frosthail and him.
"You can’t know that." I said and he shook his head again.
"He is like that... After all... He had ignored me for over 5 years until I had to confront him... Even that was extremely hard because he is so busy." He said and it felt like a jab.
"Ah... Well..." I couldn’t give the same reason as Ocean right now.
I watched as he sat there looking upset and I couldn’t help but recall his younger self who stood alone looking so lonely all by himself.
I reached out and placed my hand over his with a smile, "You said that you confronted him directly when you found him after he had ignored you... So, what’s stopping you now?"
Davian turned his head, his eyes meeting mine, "What?"
I chuckled, "He may have a lot of people around him but how many of them are his friends? If he considers you as his friend then, he might just be waiting for you to reach out because as you said that he’s usually really busy. All you have to do is just confront him and let him know what you think."
Davian’s eyes twinkled for a moment before his lips curled up and he smiled. For a moment, maybe it was because of his Aura but my heart skipped a beat.
"Thank you, My Lady. I kept agonizing over it for a couple of days but you gave me such a simple answer." He chuckled, "Why is it that whenever I’m troubled by such thoughts it’s either him or you who give me such solutions?"
I smiled and shrugged, "Do you ever share such troubles with anyone else?"
"No," he chuckled.
"Then that’s your answer," I said and he shook his head looking so relieved now.
"When I return, I’ll talk to him right away and let him know what I think." He said and I nodded.
"Good." I said and he smiled looking at me.
"Ah," he said as if he recalled something and then patted his trousers’ pockets before he pulled out a blue box which looked familiar for some reason.
"Um... Here," he said as he handed me the box.
"Hm? Why are you giving this to me?" I asked hesitantly taking the box.
"I... To-To thank you..."
"Eh?"
His face flushed bright red as he added, "A-And since it’s your b-birthday so... I got this..."
I didn’t want to but for some reason I knew what the box in my hands contained.
"D-Do you mind if I opened it, Your Highness?" I asked trying to keep my smile.
"Sure," he said and I opened the box with slightly trembling fingers only to discover the bracelet that he bought with me as Ocean as a witness not too long ago for the last that he loved.
