Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 54: ’let’s talk later, okay’
He sat down next to Qie Xieling but he wasn’t talking after that. Qie Xieling glanced at Luo Muchen and for the first time since he had met him Qie Xieling felt a dark aura emanating from him with a clear don’t disturb or I will explode sign on him.
Qie Xieling got up and gave Bo Ailun’s cell phone back before sitting back down. He thought that this little episode would blow over after a class or two but Luo Muchen really knew how to hold grudges.
The sad part was that he didn’t even know why Luo Muchen was mad at him. He wasn’t the one that took that picture plus he deleted it, well, sort of.
Because of this deskmate squabble the rest of Qie Xieling’s first day at school was kind of miserable. There was too much traffic around his desk during the short recess and Luo Muchen was entertaining it.
He would respond to them. Granted the response was lukewarm at best but when Qie Xieling spoke to him he would get a cold shoulder. Luo Muchen wouldn’t even grace him with any type of response.
When Qie Xieling got home he was in a very horrible mood which his dads noticed. He wasn’t rude but he wasn’t quite himself either.
The two of them thought he would sleep on it and tomorrow he would be cool. But the next day he was as grumpy as before so Wen Qinxi decided to drop him off at school by himself.
When they reached the gate of the school, Qie Xieling gave a perfunctory goodbye before reaching for the handle of the door. Wen Qinxi immediately locked the car doors and Qie Xieling turned back to look at his dad.
"Dad the doors," he said and Wen Qinxi switched off the engine before asking,
"What’s going on? You have been acting weird since you came back yesterday. Tell me what’s wrong and maybe dad can help you."
Qie Xieling bit his lips before turning back around. He really wanted to talk to somebody but no one including Bo Ailun would understand. The matter was a little too silly to bring it to his dad but he still needed someone outside this issue to give him insight.
"It’s someone at school," said Qie Xieling and Wen Qinxi asked,
"Is it a friend?"
Qie Xieling couldn’t really place Luo Muchen at Bo Ailun’s level nor could he classify him at the same level as Deming so he just answered,
"My deskmate. He... he got mad at me yesterday for some reason and if I have to sit next to him for the rest of the school year we at least have to be cordial, right?"
Wen Qinxi was a little surprised that his son had already fought with his deskmate on the first day and didn’t know how to make amends.
"Maybe you should get him a juice box or something as a way to start the conversation then talk about it civilly and calmly. If that doesn’t work then you change deskmates," said Wen Qinxi and Qie Xieling took his advice to heart.
He passed by the vending machine on his way to class and bought some peach iced tea. When Luo Muchen came in in the morning he found a bottle of peach iced tea on his desk with a sticky note.
The words on it were simple but Luo Muchen felt his heart flutter. With a subtle smile on his face, he rubbed the words ’let’s talk later, okay’ with his thumb.
Yesterday he got so jealous that he didn’t even want to talk to Qie Xieling which was unlike him. When he got home he suddenly realised that he was making a fool out of himself. From Qie Xieling’s face yesterday he knew he had messed up but he didn’t expect Qie Xieling would make peace with him first.
He set his bag aside and sat down but he couldn’t see a shadow of Qie Xieling or Bo Ailun yet class was about to start. He glanced in Lee Ya’s direction. She was already sitting down with a small mirror in her hand while applying lip gloss.
He contemplated asking her but his dislike for her had him remain rooted to his seat. He didn’t know why but he couldn’t stand her and it wasn’t only because of her interest in Qie Xieling. It was something else but he just didn’t know what.
Qie Xieling wasn’t in class for a reason. He left the class with Bo Ailun to go to the bathroom. On their way back, he was stopped by a group of five boys and from the looks of it they were a grade or two higher.
They approached him rudely and Qie Xieling tried his best to be as respectful as possible. It would be bad if he got into a fight on day two of school but it was proving quite difficult to maintain his composure.
The leader of the group draped his arm around Qie Xieling and asked, "What’s wrong? You seem a little impatient. Are we seniors perhaps wasting your time?"
Qie Xieling glanced at the arm that was around his shoulders and couldn’t help but move a step away. When he did that the other boys hugged Bo Ailun as though letting him know that he can leave but he would have to leave his friend behind.
"It’s the timing. We will be late for class if we don’t leave now," said Qie Xieling and the group became noisy saying words like nerd and dork.
"They can’t do anything to you if you are late. Aren’t you GameX’s only heir? This young master can surely afford to skip one class and have one smoke with us," said the domineering of them all and the rest echoed his sentiments.
Qie Xieling who had never smoked in his entire life found this quite funny. This was the first time someone mentioned his background in such a repulsive way.
"No," he replied his tone neither harsh nor polite.
The older boy thought he heard him incorrectly so he leaned in close and said, "Excuse me?"
Qie Xieling took advantage of this opportunity and put the boy two heads taller than him in a chokehold.
"Let him go," he said and the group of boys were hesitant but Qie Xieling tightened his grasp and the older boy tapped his arm while saying,
"Let him go!"
The two boys immediately let go of Bo Ailun and watched as Qie Xieling whispered something into their boss’ ear.
"If you dare fuck with either me or him again, I will beat you to the hospital and get away with it. Do you understand?" he said his voice like that of a devil invoking fear into the hearts of its victims.
