Saving the Heartthrob Frenemy-Chapter 132: Its like a rooster with a sore throat.
As the night continued the once lit-up private room was now dimly lit, with colourful neon strobing lights casting a surreal glow on everything including the cake that had almost been devoured completely.
The air was filled with the sound of drunken karaoke and raucous laughter as the group of friends sang off-key to their favourite songs.
After Ah Cy and Wei Qi ruined their ears, Bo Ailun turned to Qie Xieling who was sitting with his feet up resting on Luo Muchen’s lap. "Lin Lin, can you go up and sing? After that raucous I need your voice to heal my poor ears," he said and Qie Xieling didn’t even think twice.
"I heard that. My singing is not that bad," complained Ah Cy.
"If you hear Qie Xieling sing you will understand what I mean," replied Bo Ailun.
Qie Xieling beckoned Bi Yu over to sing with him. "I can’t sing the girl part. I will butcher it," he said and Lee Ya couldn’t help but complain,
"What about me? I can sing the girl part?"
Qie Xieling’s brow arched as he said, "Ya Ya, I have heard you sing. Your voice will make babies regret being born when they hear it. It’s like a rooster with a sore throat."
Lee Ya, "..."
"Damn, that roast was unnecessary," said Bo Ailun but he was stifling his laughter.
Qie Xieling was still mad about the whole cake incident hence he didn’t restrain himself. Unfortunately for him, Lee Ya only saw him through rose-tinted glasses so she didn’t get upset. Instead, she felt aggrieved while calling out, "Gege," coquettishly.
Luo Muchen was so annoyed but he kept staring at Qie Xieling. He just wanted to take him home and press him on the bed to teach him a lesson. That was probably the alcohol magnifying the sour feeling in his throat.
Soon the strobe of lights danced in sync with the pulsating rhythm of the popular love song that filled the air. Luo Muchen had only ever heard Qie Xieling sing once on the bus when they were on that school trip thus he didn’t expect him to sing so well like a performer.
But when Qie Xieling’s voice rose and fell in perfect harmony with Bi Yu’s as they swayed and twirled on the makeshift dance floor, Luo Muchen realised he had underestimated his abilities.
The group gathered around them cheered and clapped, entranced by the magnetic chemistry between the two of them. Qie Xieling’s vibrant laugh rang through the room as Bi Yu spun around, their eyes locked in a playful challenge. From the look in his eyes, he was genuinely having fun.
Luo Muchen leaned against the backrest of the couch, a frown etched upon his usually blank face. His arms were crossed over his chest, and his finger tapped an impatient rhythm against his forearm. He couldn’t tear his eyes away from the captivating spectacle of Qie Xeiling and Bi Yu moving as one. Their seamless performance was painful for him to watch.
As the song progressed, Luo Muchen’s frown deepened, and he found solace in the amber liquid swirling in his glass. He downed it in one go, relishing the burn as it slid down his throat, hoping it would numb the sting of jealousy eating away at him.
Qie Xieling’s voice soared, hitting a high note that drew even more applause and cheers from the group especially Bo Ailun who was almost breaking down in tears.
As his teacher said before, Qie Xieling was the life of the party, a natural-born entertainer. His dance moves were alluring and charming, his eyes sparkling with mischief. Bi Yu matched him step for step, their joyful laughter intertwining like the melody of the love song they were performing.
Unbeknownst to them, an odourless gas was creeping through the vents, seeping into the room and mixing with the cacophony of sound and energy. Yet, the party continued, with the entire building oblivious to the danger lurking in the shadows.
The music swelled into a crescendo, and Qie Xieling leapt into a stunning spin, drawing gasps of admiration from the onlookers.
Luo Muchen’s grip on his empty glass tightened, his knuckles turning white. He poured himself another drink, downing it with the same fervour as before. The more he watched, the more he drank, seeking solace in the numbing embrace of alcohol.
As the song approached its end, Qie Xieling and Bi Yu shared a final dramatic pose, their eyes locked in a tender gaze. Bo Ailun erupted in applause, the atmosphere electric with excitement. Qie Xieling smiled radiantly as he winked at Luo Muchen shooting an arrow straight into his jealous heart.
When Qie Xieling stepped off the stage Lee Ya handed him a bottle of water after pretending to twist it open. She had in the end decided to pour the contents of the ziplock bag into a water bottle instead because it would be more reasonable to urge him to drink water than alcohol.
Qie Xieling who was sweating a lot after all that fuss accepted it but he didn’t drink it immediately.
"Thanks," he said before closing the cap and walking back to sit down. His head felt a little lightheaded and dizzy. He just wanted to sit down.
When he reached the couch to sit next to Luo Muchen he fell over and Luo Muchen caught him embracing him in his arms. He pushed away the strands sticking to Qie Xieling’s forehead and asked, "Are you okay?"
Qie Xieling raised his hand to open the bottle of water and drink. Lee Ya who was watching on the side was a little excited. She tried to conceal the look of glee in her eyes. After he drinks it she planned to follow him when he goes to the bathroom and with the help of his father’s bodyguard she would take him to her apartment.
While she was revering the success of her plan, the sound of Bi Yu collapsing to the floor attracted everyone’s attention.
Luo Muchen raised his head abruptly only to find Bo Ailun carrying her to the couch. He was about to say they should call the manager when the water bottle in Qie Xieling’s hand fell to the ground spilling everywhere.
Luo Muchen’s eyes widened seeing Qie Xieling’s hands trembling. "Mu Mu... do I have five hands?" asked Qie Xieling his voice sheepish before he closed his eyes.
Chaos and confusion ensued and one by one they dropped like flies. A group of men wearing gas masks exited one of the VIP suites as the cameras in the building shut down simultaneously. The leader gestured to the private room he was looking for and the men strode over and opened the door.
With their phones displaying the people assigned to them, they lifted people’s faces in the private room before picking them up. In less than a minute they crawled down the old tunnels underneath the building carrying five people in total. It seemed Leong Jinn had changed his plans last minute and took Bi Yu as well.
