Rebirth: Revenge of the abandoned heirress-Chapter 16: Dry Creek fields
Chapter 16 - Dry Creek fields
After settling numerous matters at the office, Jazmine Harrison returned home late at night, completely exhausted.
As she slumped onto her couch, her phone buzzed.
Frank: "Woah! Our little Jazmine is making quite the headlines today!"
Amelia: "Jazmine, I'm jealous. I'm a model—I should be in the headlines more than you. Why is it always you and not me?"
Frank: "Just come have dinner with me. I guarantee you'll be trending by tomorrow morning."
Amelia: "I have no interest in scandalous f*ckboys."
Frank: "Ouch. That was too direct."
Frank: "But still, you'll be in the news."
Amelia: "I also stand by my point. I don't want to end my career."
Jazmine wanted to reply, but she was too drained. Tossing the phone aside, she dragged herself into the bathroom for a quick shower.
The moment she hit the bed, sleep claimed her instantly.
By morning, Tang Enterprise was back on its feet.
As soon as she arrived at the office, Jazmine pulled out the files she had marked the day before—isolated profiles of key shareholders who had been causing trouble.
She glanced at the circled names.
Follow curr𝒆nt nov𝒆ls on fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com.
One down. Four more to go.
With a swift stroke of her pen, she drew a big red cross over Victor Smith's name.
For the past few days, she had been analyzing the company's five declining projects, searching for a way to salvage them.
She leaned back in her chair and pinched the bridge of her nose.
These three projects had started strong... until David Anderson interfered.
The shopping mall project. He used his connections to block top brands from entering her mall. Without high-end stores, the foot traffic was too low, and the project failed.
The theme park project. The construction team had ties to Anderson Enterprise. Shortly after, they delayed completion for six months. The exotic plants she had imported died before they could even be planted.
The boutique project. The fashion designers she had signed were offered exclusive contracts by international conglomerates, which covered their breach-of-contract penalties—all thanks to Anderson Enterprise's influence.
Every time she traced the disruptions back to their source, the answer was the same.
David Anderson.
Her fingers tightened around the pen.
He was planning against me for three years? Was he ever sincere, or was I just a fool?
She exhaled sharply.
It doesn't matter anymore.
She pushed the documents aside.
These three projects are beyond saving. The smart choice is to close them immediately and reallocate my resources. But the real issue is funding.
To reclaim 15 percent of the company's shares from Victor Smith, she had already spent half of her available capital.
But now, she held 71 percent of Tang Enterprise.
No one could easily threaten her control anymore.
Even so, her funds were running dangerously low.
A knock at the door broke her thoughts.
"Come in."
Emily Carrol entered, her sharp eyes glinting with frustration.
"President Corey Nielson is insisting on keeping his own assistant. He rejected the one assigned by the company. That means it'll be harder to control the information he receives."
Jazmine exhaled, her expression unreadable.
He's testing me.
Corey Nielson wasn't an idiot. He likely suspected that she was onto him. If she refused his request, it would confirm his suspicions and make him more cautious.
"Then let him have his own assistant."
Emily blinked. "You're allowing it?"
Jazmine's lips curled into a sly smile.
"Of course. But use company policy to obtain a full profile of that assistant. If Corey Nielson is as ambitious as I think, his assistant will be the same. We'll make him an offer he can't refuse."
Emily's lips pressed into a thin line. "You plan to turn his own assistant against him?"
Jazmine tilted her head. "Everyone has a price. We just have to find his."
A slow smirk stretched across Emily's face.
"President, when are we going to expose Corey? I can't stand him. He thinks we're fools, but I want to see the look on his face when he realizes he was the one being played."
Jazmine paused, then glanced up at Emily.
She's opening up to me.
In her past life, she had ruined this opportunity—destroyed the potential of building a powerful ally.
Not this time.
This time, we'll stand together.
Jazmine chuckled. "Once Corey makes enough mistakes and Anderson Enterprise suffers, President Anderson himself will deal with him. You'll get to enjoy the show."
Emily's shoulders relaxed slightly. "Fine. But promise me that when it happens, I get to be there when he realizes he's doomed."
Jazmine laughed. "Deal. Now, update me on the employees."
Emily's expression brightened.
"The new hires you requested—all of them showed up for interviews. They're exceptional talents. Every single one."
"And the old employees?"
Emily smirked. "Those who participated in the revolt claim they were misled by Osbert. To show their remorse, they proposed a scheme—
They agreed to forfeit half of their salary for six months. They also volunteered for unpaid overtime.
Jazmine's eyes gleamed.
More than five hundred employees took part in the revolt. Many were senior officials with high salaries. Half their income for six months... that adds up to a massive sum.
The funding problem was solved.
By dawn, Jazmine had gone through the details of all five major projects in the company.
Only two could still be saved.
Her eyes darkened.
If they can use underhanded tactics, why can't I?
The two biggest obstacles were Diamond Ridge Construction Company and Skyline Contractors—both had bullied Tang Enterprise into submission.
If I want to save these projects, I need my own construction company.
She scanned the list of available construction companies with stocks for sale. One name caught her attention.
A memory resurfaced.
Their stock prices skyrocketed a few years later...
She noted the company's name and mapped out her next moves.
Then, she picked up a pamphlet.
Dry Creek Fields.
Her gaze sharpened as she read the advertisement.
The owner was struggling to sell.
These fields are still unsold... But if my memory is correct, in a few months, Anderson Enterprise will buy them.
The land was remote, outside the government's city expansion plans. No real estate agency wanted it due to the lack of infrastructure.
Even with the low price, investors saw no value in the land.
Because no one had discovered what lay beneath.
The land was sitting on a fortune of valuable minerals.
A slow smile curled on Jazmine's lips.
Now that I have enough funds, Dry Creek Fields will be my redemption.
