Rebirth: I Will Win Easily in the Apocalypse-Chapter 31 - 21 Skateboarding Car
Chapter 31: Chapter 21 Skateboarding Car
"There's nothing much left on this floor; let's go down one more level."
After gathering all the items together and placing them at the entrance, Gu Yanzhi and Song Zhao made their way down to the next floor.
The 12th floor looked like a storeroom. Through the frosted glass, one could vaguely see that it was filled with shelves, packed to the brim.
The logo on the wall read "Tianchen Trading." Gu Yanzhi had heard of this company—they specialized in live-stream sales, and before the end of the world, they had high sales volumes on short video platforms.
The two of them easily smashed open the glass door and went inside. It indeed was a storeroom, with a dazzling array of products. The shelves were piled with everything from food and daily necessities to electronic products and household items, resembling a mini-supermarket.
Gu Yanzhi wandered around and collected the shelves into her space. The originally tidy storeroom suddenly became a mess, with everything chaotically piled on the ground.
"We forgot to buy shelves first," Gu Yanzhi said, looking at the cluttered ground with a sense of reflection.
The scene in her space was not much different from what she saw before her, everything crammed together. Fortunately, when she was collecting supplies, she had subconsciously sorted them simply, but now it wasn't convenient to retrieve supplies; she always had to search for a long time.
Having shelves would make finding things much easier. Perhaps she should find a few more warehouses or supermarkets and collect some shelves for her space? Gu Yanzhi thought to herself.
"Let's call others over; it's going to take a long time to clean up so many things," Song Zhao interrupted Gu Yanzhi's thoughts. The two of them couldn't handle cleaning up this mess alone.
Before calling others, they made another round in the storeroom to confirm that there were no other offices or companies on this floor.
"Wow, there's so much stuff here," gasped the people who came down.
"Sister Yan Zhi, you're really lucky."
"Yeah, Xiao Gu and Xiao Song are so fortunate; we're all benefiting from it."
Aside from the four people working on woodworking on the top floor, everyone else had gathered on the 12th floor.
From the 13th floor and upwards, there wasn't much to find—they only discovered three buckets of water frozen into chunks and two sets of solid wood furniture.
When they found the solid wood furniture, Uncle Zhuang was called over for advice, and it was turned into a pile of planks, which were then taken to the top floor for Uncle Zhuang's use. Xiao Lin and Gao Zhi directly carried the water downstairs.
They quickly started sorting the items, piling them up by category. When all was said and done, the most abundant products were beauty and skincare items, including various brand-name skincare products, shower gels, and so forth.
Next were the most desired items—food, various snacks, beverages, and to everyone's delight, the warehouse also had a good supply of rice, corn, dried shiitake mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, and other dried vegetables. They even found more than a dozen boxes of self-heating hot pots and rice in various flavors. Divided among themselves, there was enough food to last a month.
After packing up all the food without leaving anything behind, they didn't ignore the various daily necessities either; everything was collected. The items that couldn't fit were simply piled up at the entrance to be taken with them when they left.
More than two months had passed, and families without the habit of stocking up on supplies like toilet paper and dishwashing liquid had long since run out. Normally, they just had to endure it, but now that they had the chance, they seized it.
Zhang Qian, Yin Meng, and Liu Sisi, three young girls, picked a few skincare items they wanted from the pile, along with snacks, and set them aside. Whether they could carry them away or not was another matter; it was better to pick them now to avoid a last-minute rush.
"Sister Yan Zhi, aren't you going to pick some skincare products? We don't know how long these tough days will last, and we're running low on face cream," Zhang Qian said, noticing Gu Yanzhi standing calmly aside, seemingly with no intention of taking anything.
"I still have plenty at home," Gu Yanzhi replied with a smile to Zhang Qian. Hearing that Gu Yanzhi was not in need, Zhang Qian didn't press the issue further.
With so many hands, it took less than an hour to clear out the 12th floor.
They had started their day early but had been busy for such a long time that many people were already out on the ice looking for items. There was no shortage of clever people; perhaps they were too tired to react last night, but seeing the cold weather this morning, they had come around.
Gu Yanzhi noticed that there were broken glass shards under the neighboring office buildings—apparently, others had gone in to search for supplies as well. Their building was left alone probably because it was relatively secluded and the glass downstairs had already been broken, indicating to others searching for supplies that there were people inside.
Leaving Xiao Lin, Sister Li, and the couple Liu Sisi to guard the supplies, the rest continued to search for materials on lower floors.
The 11th floor was the main office space of Tianchen Trading. Since they often worked late into the night for e-commerce live streaming, there were plenty of temporary army cots with blankets on them. Yin Meng and Zhong Junfeng, the couple, happily collected all the blankets, ensuring they wouldn't be cold anymore.
On the 11th floor, they also found several trolleys and some food and daily necessities left from the live streaming that were not put back.
The 10th floor didn't have much to offer, and after a round there, everyone returned upstairs to sort out the collected goods.
Uncle Zhuang's handmade carts were nearly finished—the existing tools were only enough to make two more carts. There were some spare iron sheets left over, and Uncle Zhuang thoughtfully also made two ice gliders.
The ice gliders' main body was made of wood with a wooden board on top, where one could squat or sit, and two rectangular legs beneath, with iron blades attached to provide friction for smooth gliding on the ice. They were also equipped with two sharpened wooden sticks to propel the ice glider.
Such ice gliders were a must-have for children in the Northeast during winter and extremely popular. Uncle Zhuang, a burly northern man, had also spent his childhood on ice gliders and naturally wanted to get everyone set up.
"Wow! Uncle Zhuang, you're so amazing, is that an ice glider? I've only seen it on TV."
"I've never seen it before; how do you use this? It looks pretty impressive."
Seeing the ice gliders, a group of children from the south were full of wonder.
"Zhuang Nanyang, have you played with this before?"
"Of course, when I was a kid in the winter, my dad would take me back to our hometown; everyone there played with this. Wait 'til we go out, and I'll show you guys."
"With our current conditions, it's quite rudimentary. The one my dad made for me had a seat, and it wasn't tiring to play with at all. This kind requires squatting on it, so it's a bit exhausting," Zhuang Nanyang said, despite having outgrown the age for playing with ice gliders, he was still delighted to see a childhood toy in such depressing circumstances, and he felt a sense of pride.
"Uncle Zhuang, you're truly incredible."
"Yeah, Uncle Zhuang is awesome."
Uncle Zhuang smiled modestly, his talents unsung. He didn't tell everyone that in the Northeast, virtually every father knew how to make this contraption.
