Rebirth: Building the Strongest Party with my Overpowered Harem.-Chapter 26: Pawn rank.
Chapter 26 - Pawn rank.
"Eat this monster," Adonis pointed.
Instantly, every dark soldier in the area began to speed toward the S-ranked monster.
They hopped on it, biting into its hard skin while it danced around, trying to keep the soldiers off it.
Like soldier ants, every single one of Adonis's soldiers found its way onto the monster's body, eating it alive while it screamed in pain.
Though the monster was able to kill a good number of them, it meant nothing if they could immediately come back to life and go on the attack again.
Everyone watched as the S-rank monster got dominated in a matter of minutes, its body falling to the ground when it could no longer feel its legs.
While the rest were shock-driven, Veronica and Filo both had proud looks on their faces, feeling lucky to be two of Adonis's closest allies.
'Did he... just take down an S-rank monster by himself?' One of the adventurers from the east, who had just happened to stumble upon the attack, asked, eyes filled with shock.
In a matter of a few minutes, the soldiers had completely eaten the Xenophon, leaving nothing behind—not even its blood.
[Your soldiers have leveled up.]
[Darth has attained level 25.]
[Darth has attained a rank—Pawn.]
'Oh? A rank? That's new. But why was he the only one who gained a new rank?' Adonis noticed Darth was basically trying to control the other dark soldiers.
'Right, he is the single strongest undead I have so far. I expected as much.'
With a sigh, he returned all his soldiers back into his space, one hand in his pocket.
If only he could extract the soul of the Xenophon. Adonis knew it was a waste, but since there was nothing left of the monster, there was no way for him to extract the soul.
As he turned around, he was met with the gazes of the other adventurers who had just recently joined.
Adonis paused, a bit surprised that so many people were watching him.
Not that they said a word—in fact, it felt like they were still trying to process what they had just witnessed.
Suddenly, someone far away yelled,
"We've seen the gate! We've seen the gate!"
That announcement meant they could leave. The monster that could have threatened the entire kingdom no longer existed.
One by one, everyone began to walk away. Though they were not excited, it was still easy to tell they were eager to leave.
"Husband! You did well. I'm amazed at how strong you are!" Veronica slid down the hill, racing toward Adonis.
But before she could get close, Filo blocked her path, using her finger to smack Veronica on the forehead.
Stepping back a bit, Veronica placed her hand on her forehead. "What was that for?!" she exclaimed.
"I already told you to stop trying to get close to Adonis, but it seems like you didn't quite understand what I meant by that."
That was Filo, clearly protective of him.
Adonis himself could not help but shake his head with a sigh.
Their voices echoed in his head as he watched the other adventurers head toward the gate.
"Stop getting in my way, you human!"

"Shout all you want, but he is off-limits, damn demon."
"Ahaa! So you admit that I am a witch."
"No, I just don't care."
Veronica fumed, almost ready to pounce on Filo, when she spotted Adonis walking away.
"Eh? Husband, where are you going?" she called, ignoring Filo.
"I'm heading back home. You guys can do what you want at this point," Adonis said as he walked away.
"No fair, I'm coming along." Veronica sprinted.
Filo did the same, though only because she didn't want Veronica anywhere near Adonis.
...
After a while, everyone exited the gate, the entire alleyway buzzing with adventurers who had survived the raid.
Compared to when they started the raid, the adventurers had reduced in numbers, which was pretty normal, especially considering how dangerous the gate rank was.
Waiting for the adventurers were officials from both the Hunter's Guild and the City's Public Guild.
Each one of them was there to treat the adventurers who might have gotten injured.
Meanwhile, Adonis stood at the side, waiting for Evans to finish his evaluation with the director of the Evergreen Public Guild.
"Adonis, why are we waiting behind? Shouldn't we be heading home by now? It's getting dark," Filo spoke, her back resting against the wall with her arms folded.
Adonis, doing the same, replied, "Not yet. Three days have already passed. Spending one more night here isn't a bad thing. And besides, I still have unfinished business."
It took quite a long time for every adventurer to vacate the area—all except Evans and his second-in-command, Sofia Hemsworth.
Sofia was the first to get a glimpse of the Dancing Corpse party, waiting at the side of the road.
Normally, people who joined in the raid and happened to be from an outside organization would wait until the next day before getting their payment from the guild.
So in that moment, Sofia thought Adonis was either trying to have a word with them, or he wanted to find a way to get his payment at that very moment.
"Boss, what should we do about them?" Sofia whispered.
Evans also took a look, but unlike Sofia, he was a bit surprised and almost curious.
He vividly remembered Adonis completely dominating an S-rank monster—something even he had difficulty doing.
'I must speak with that man,' he told himself as he completely disregarded Sofia and headed straight for Adonis.
"Husband, I think he's coming to you already," Veronica announced.
This made Adonis look ahead, and there he saw Evans standing in front of him.
"I see you waited behind. Any chance it was to see me?" Evans uttered as he walked, a smile on his face.
"Yes, I didn't want to disturb you while you were attending to your team," said Adonis.
"You're observant too. I respect that." Evans halted. "Seeing as we both have something we want to discuss, why don't we go back to my place and have a little chat?"
