Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 630_1
He lightened his footsteps, walked over, and stood beside Julia, first glancing at his son who had awakened, then softly said, "Little guy woke up again?"
"He just woke," Julia turned her head to look at him, then stood up to face him. "Glades, I'm actually very worried and nervous. What if your guess is wrong and something unexpected happens?" Julia voiced the concern she'd been holding onto since the incident, a 'what if' scenario she was immensely relieved hadn't come to pass.
It was a topic that could only be discussed between the couple.
Glades chuckled softly, then instinctively drew her into his embrace.
"Don't worry, I've prepared for everything."
Hansen Ruiz's people were all capable. Julia didn't know that among them were bomb disposal experts, top-notch snipers, and martial arts masters. No matter what tricks Pheobe Rogers pulled, they could handle it and turn danger into safety.
Glades Horne never undertook anything he wasn't sure of.
After hearing his words, Julia didn't ask further. The couple embraced and sat down together, looking at their son.
Time seemed to fly by for Julia since the baby's full-moon celebration.
Every day, she and the nanny took care of Ivan, who was growing quickly, changing by the day. Whether it was because of his parents' height or some other reason, Ivan soon outgrew Jimmy.
Adele wasn't very patient, a trait quite necessary for taking care of children. Sometimes, when the nanny wasn't around and she had to look after the children on her own, Jimmy would drive her to distraction, and she couldn't help but lose her temper. Whoever was unlucky enough to be nearby would bear the brunt of it.
The Horne Family's attitude towards the two children always had a subtle distinction.
Everyone treated Ivan like a treasure; the first thing they did upon returning home was to hold him and play with him for a while. Although they verbally expressed equal love for Jimmy, the only ones who genuinely did were Glades and Julia Bluen. Even Mila Anderson, the maternal grandmother, favored Ivan.
Adele could feel the family's different treatment towards her son. She said nothing, but in the quiet of the night, looking at her sleeping son, her heart ached.
She didn't blame her family. In their eyes, Ivan was the true heir to the Horne legacy, while her child was not only an illegitimate son with an unknown father but also a maternal grandson. A grandson, yes, but with that qualifying word 'maternal' attached.
It was already the end of August, and the weather was still very hot.
Both babies were lying in their sliding baby cribs, with nannies standing by. As the children slept, the nannies were relaxed, perhaps watching television.
After some time, both babies woke up.
Ivan's nanny quickly came forward to pick him up, tenderly coaxing him and checking if he had wet himself. However, the two nannies caring for Jimmy were still sitting there watching TV. One nudged the other and said, "The little one is crying; it's your turn to pick him up."
The other nanny replied indifferently, "It's just a baby. Crying makes them healthier." Besides, the masters weren't around, so they could afford to slack off.
"How can you look after the young master like that? Pick him up quickly and check if he has wet himself," Ivan's nanny couldn't help but criticize her colleagues.
The indifferent nanny gave her a sour look and said, "We're both nannies, yet our fates are different. You serve the legitimate one, while we serve a seemingly revered but actually unwelcome child."
"What are you saying?"
Out of nowhere, a low, cold voice rang out.
Julia Bluen entered, her hands full of bags. She had just returned from shopping for the two babies. Upon her return, she overheard the nanny's words, instantly feeling a surge of nameless anger.
Different fates? Seemingly revered but unwelcome?
Jimmy was a Horne heir and a young master of the family, just like Ivan. These nannies had been handpicked and were supposed to be of a certain caliber. How could they say such things about Jimmy? Was their pay for looking after Jimmy any lower?
"Madam," the two nannies stood up in fright.
Jimmy was still crying.
Julia quickly set down the bags, stepped forward, and lifted Jimmy, cooing softly. She smelled an odor, so she laid Jimmy back on the crib. Upon checking his diaper, she found he had soiled it. With semi-practiced motions, she reached for a fresh diaper from the crib and took out wet wipes. She cleaned Jimmy and then put a new, dry diaper on him.
"Madam, let me do it," the previously indifferent nanny said with an awkward, ingratiating smile, her insides churning with anxiety.
What terrible luck, for the Madam to hear that.
"No need," Julia replied coolly, not even glancing at the two nannies. Instead, she asked Ivan's nanny, "Where's Miss Adele?"
"Miss Adele said she was tired and went back to her room to rest."
Being a mother wasn't easy. Sleep was in short supply.
It was normal for young Adele not to handle such weariness well.
Julia didn't ask further. Holding Jimmy, she turned to the two nannies, who now looked terrified, and said coldly, "Pack your things and then go see Uncle Ian to settle your salaries and leave." Nannies like these weren't worth keeping anyway.
The nannies' faces changed dramatically. The Horne family paid the highest salaries in the nanny sector. While the pay was excellent, that was secondary. Being dismissed from the Horne family would make prospective employers assume they were at fault, making it difficult for them to find work afterward.
"Madam, we... we were just a bit slow. Please, give us a chance to make it right. Don't dismiss us," they pleaded immediately, clearly showing their desire not to leave the Horne household.
The salary the Hornes paid was comparable to that of white-collar workers. If they left the Horne family, where else could they find a nanny job with such high pay?
