Prosperous Marriage: Married to My Brother-in-law-Chapter 629_1
Hansen Ruiz blinked, smiling slightly without speaking.
Moments later, he also headed towards the Lounge to return to his loving wife's side.
He had taken care of all the tasks assigned to him, and now, he could enjoy some peaceful days.
Time flew by, and before they knew it, the full-moon celebration ended, and evening approached.
The guests left one after another, and the Horne and Bluen families also left the hotel.
Once back at the Horne Family house, Glades Horne pulled Julia Bluen along, with Julia holding Ivan, heading straight upstairs, leaving all family members downstairs.
James Horne, however, was already waiting for Glades and his wife in the upstairs hall.
Seeing James, Glades's expression shifted subtly, but even he wasn't sure what kind of look he wore.
"James, is there something you need?" Julia was the one who spoke.
Together, the couple had schemed against Pheobe Rogers, allowing James to witness his mother's criminal acts and her arrest; no matter what, this was a form of harm to James.
James looked at Julia, his eyes deep and tinged with an apology. Receiving Julia's bright and clear gaze, he retracted his own, turning to Glades and said, "Brother, may I have a word with you?"
Glades didn't respond, just pursed his lips tightly.
Julia glanced at him, then with a sense of what was proper, said, "Glades, I'll take Ivan back to the room first."
She then discreetly pinched the back of Glades's hand before carrying her son off to their room.
After watching his wife and child disappear into the room, Glades turned towards the Study Room on the second floor, with James silently following him into the Study Room.
As soon as Glades entered the Study Room, he sat in the black chair behind the desk, leaning his powerful frame back against it, arms spread on the armrests. Then, he lifted his face, as handsome as a deity, and looked intensely at James, speaking in a deep voice, "What do you want to talk about with your brother?"
James stepped closer, standing across from him. Although there was a chair behind him, he chose not to sit.
"Bro, I'm sorry," James finally said after a long silence.
He was apologizing to his elder brother on behalf of his mother.
Thankfully, his nephew was lucky and unharmed; otherwise, he would never forgive his mother, nor could he face his brother and sister-in-law again.
Knowing the apology was on behalf of Pheobe Rogers, Glades's gaze darkened as he said, "That has nothing to do with you. You don't need to say sorry."
"But she is my mother, after all. My grandmother's family has disowned her, and now I am her only family. Besides me, who else can apologize to you? Brother, if I had known what Mom was up to... Even at the risk of my life, I would have stopped her. I would have never let her have even the slightest chance to hurt Julia or harm Ivan," James spoke with rising agitation.
Glades lifted his hand, signaling him to stop. He understood. He knew that for James, the most important people in his heart were Glades himself and Julia Bluen. James would rather harm himself than wish any hurt on him or Julia. This affection was too heavy, so heavy that it made Glades's feelings towards James complicated. If it weren't for James's deep affection, perhaps he might have targeted James himself. James's feelings had saved him.
Rising from his chair, Glades circled the desk and stood by James's side. The brothers faced in opposite directions, as if about to pass each other by.
Lifting his left hand, he patted James's shoulder firmly and said meaningfully, "James, it's all in the past now. Let it go. You need to start living again. Your mom... she's still alive. You don't need to worry or feel guilty about her. You just need to live your life well, let go of all your burdens, and live well."
Then, he left the Study Room, leaving James standing stunned in front of the desk.
There was complete silence in the Study Room, so quiet it stirred a sense of unease.
James turned and looked towards the Study Room doorway. Only the door stood quietly there; his brother's figure was nowhere to be seen. His brother's words, however, still echoed in his ears.
His heart felt bitter, a bit painful, and his nose felt sore.
His elder brother had always known how unhappy and suppressed he had been all these years. His elder brother was still the same, always caring for him.
With light steps, he found himself in front of the sofa and sat down.
Thinking about the day's events, he suddenly covered his face with his hands, overwhelmed with sadness and weeping again.
He hadn't visited his mother, only called to inquire about her. He knew her injuries were not severe, and she would be discharged from the hospital after a few days of care. Two police officers were on guard in front of her ward, keeping a watch on her.
Live well! Could he really live well? Facing parents like his, he didn't know if he could truly continue to live a good life.
"KNOCK, KNOCK." A knocking sound came from outside the Study Room.
James quickly lowered his hands from his face, his palms already wet with tears.
"KNOCK, KNOCK." The measured knocking continued.
James composed himself before responding quietly, "The door isn't locked. Come in."
The Study Room door was gently pushed open, and Rebecca Hughes, dressed in snow-white, looking like an angel, stood at the doorway.
Seeing Rebecca, James was slightly startled. "Why are you here?"
Rebecca didn't respond, just walked in, closed the Study Room door behind her, then turned to face him. Suddenly, she quickly walked to the sofa, sat beside him, stretched out her arms, and embraced him, pulling his head into her chest. Holding his neck gently, she said softly, "James, don't be sad. If you want to cry, just cry. It's hard to hold it in. Let it out, vent it, and all the unhappiness will pass."
This woman… James wanted to push Rebecca away immediately, but he didn't. He found himself craving the warmth she provided at that moment. And so, though it felt extremely unnatural, he allowed Rebecca to embrace him, soaking in the care from a woman.
Glades returned to his own room, where Julia was sitting by the crib, soothing their child.
