Chapter 483 - 70: City of Bonitaville
"Hitmontop, Rapid Spin into Triple Kick!"
On the battlefield, Chigusa commanded her Hitmontop to attack Ash's Pikachu with determination.
"War Dance!" Chigusa's voice rang sharply as Hitmontop spun into action. Its rapid rotation not only increased its speed but also sent it charging straight toward Pikachu.
As Hitmontop closed the distance, it abruptly broke its rhythm and launched the first kick of its Triple Kick combo, aiming directly for Pikachu's head.
"Pikachu!" Ash called out as his partner reacted swiftly, bending backward like a bridge to dodge the attack.
But Hitmontop was relentless. It quickly adjusted and executed the second kick, targeting Pikachu's supporting legs.
"Pikapi!" Pikachu reacted again, using its hands as support and flipping backward to evade the second strike with grace.
"War dance One!" Chigusa shouted, seizing the moment. Hitmontop adjusted mid-spin and lunged forward, using the momentum of Rapid Spin to knock Pikachu off balance. It followed up with the final kick of Triple Kick, this time landing a solid hit.
Bang! Pikachu crossed its arms to block, but the impact sent it flying several meters. It tumbled mid-air to reduce the force before landing skillfully on its feet, unharmed but visibly impressed.
"We did it! We hit Pikachu!" Chigusa and Hitmontop couldn't contain their excitement.
Though the attack caused no damage, managing to land a hit on Pikachu was a significant accomplishment for them.
"Well done!" Ash nodded in approval. Compared to the previous day, Chigusa and Hitmontop's movements were far more precise.
Their attack sequence was smoother, and their improved hit rate was evident. Against a Pokémon of similar strength, Hitmontop's strikes would likely have landed consistently by now. Even Pikachu, though not fighting at full strength, had to acknowledge their progress.
Kenzo, observing from the sidelines, felt a surge of pride. His granddaughter had always shown potential, and today's sparring session proved her rapid improvement.
"That's enough," Kenzo said, stepping forward to end the match. Though Chigusa and Hitmontop had made great strides, the skill gap between them and Ash was still significant.
Continuing the match might harm her confidence, so Kenzo wisely chose to conclude it.
Ash nodded in agreement. For him, this was just a friendly sparring session to help Chigusa grow—it wasn't about winning or losing.
—
"It's almost time for us to continue our journey," Ash said after a short rest. He checked the time and noted it was already mid-morning. Delaying their departure any further would disrupt their schedule.
"So soon?" Chigusa exclaimed, standing abruptly. She wasn't ready to say goodbye.
Ash smiled apologetically. "We're heading to challenge the Johto League, and we've planned our route carefully. We can't afford to stay longer."
"Challenging the Johto League..." Chigusa muttered. A mix of admiration and determination flickered in her eyes.
It reminded her of her own dreams—dreams she had put on hold to train in the mountains.
"I won't keep you any longer," Kenzo said, stepping forward. He handed Ash a small slip of paper.
"This is my contact number. If you ever need help, don't hesitate to reach out. I'll do everything I can."
"Thank you, Mr. Kenzo. I'll keep that in mind," Ash replied, storing the number in his PokéGear.
With farewells exchanged, Ash, Misty, and Brock resumed their journey, leaving behind a wistful Chigusa.
"Grandpa," Chigusa said after the group disappeared into the distance, "I've decided. I'm going to challenge the Johto League too. Is there still time for me to qualify for the Silver Conference?"
Kenzo smiled knowingly. He had anticipated this. "There's still six months until the Silver Conference. But with your current skills, you'll need intense training to earn the necessary badges in time."
"I'll train harder than ever," Chigusa said resolutely. "In one month, I'll start challenging gyms. I want to face Ash again at the Silver Conference!"
Kenzo chuckled. "Then we'd better start preparing. You've set yourself a big goal."
—
Two days later, Ash and his friends arrived in the City of Bonitaville, a bustling stop not far from Ecruteak City. Deciding to rest and restock supplies, they headed to the Pokémon Center.
"Oh? There's a breeder competition happening here tomorrow," Brock said, catching snippets of a conversation from nearby passersby. His eyes lit up with excitement.
"Breeder competition?" Ash asked, intrigued. "Are you interested, Brock?"
"Absolutely," Brock replied with a firm nod.
Ash grinned. "Then we'll stay an extra day. Ecruteak isn't far—we can afford a slight detour."
Relieved and excited, Brock excused himself to check his emails. Not long after, he returned to their shared dormitory, grinning from ear to ear.
"What made you so happy?" Ash asked, noticing Brock's enthusiasm.
"I just found out that Suzy is participating in the breeder competition tomorrow!" Brock exclaimed.
"Suzy... Vulpix's former trainer?" Ash asked, recalling the name.
"That's right! I haven't seen her in ages," Brock said dreamily.
Ash nodded, remembering Suzy as a kind and skilled breeder. However, a faint memory surfaced—Suzy was traveling with another person now.
Ash glanced at Brock, whose excitement was practically radiating. He couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for his friend, knowing Brock's romantic hopes were likely misplaced.

"Well, good luck tomorrow," Ash said, keeping his thoughts to himself as the group prepared for an eventful day in the City of Bonitaville.
