Chapter 482 - 69: Guidance

"Encore, Hitmontop, use Rapid Spin!"

The shouts and sounds of impact echoed through the quiet night from the training ground. Chigusa's voice was firm as she urged her Hitmontop to continue training.

Hitmontop, though visibly exhausted, remained full of determination. With a renewed burst of energy, it spun rapidly, launching itself toward a sturdy wooden training dummy.

"Keep the rhythm steady! Follow up with Triple Kick!" Chigusa commanded, her voice straining with effort.

Hitmontop obeyed, maintaining its spinning momentum. As it approached the wooden target, it executed the first kick with precision.

The impact caused it to rebound slightly, spinning in the opposite direction to prepare for the second kick.

"War Dance One!" Chigusa called out.

Hitmontop kicked out again, using the rebound to shift its rotation back to its original direction for the third and final kick.

With a loud bang, the wooden dummy could no longer withstand the assault. It splintered apart, fragments scattering across the ground.

"It's still not enough..." Chigusa muttered, dropping to her knees.

Though the combination of Rapid Spin and Triple Kick was visually impressive and powerful, it lacked the precision to effectively land hits in real battles.

No matter how much force or finesse they added, it wouldn't matter if their attacks missed the target.

"You're still training this late?"

Ash and Misty appeared at the edge of the training ground, having stepped outside for a moonlit stroll. The sound of the commotion had drawn their attention.

"Ash, Misty," Chigusa said, startled at first. She quickly masked her frustration and greeted them with a weary smile.

"This kind of training won't help you," Misty said gently but firmly. "If you don't identify the flaws in your approach, nothing will change."

"I know that..." Chigusa's smile faltered. Her voice grew softer as she added, "But I don't know how to fix it. I'm so used to my own style..."

"That's exactly why you need to go back to the basics," Ash said firmly. "Start fresh and let your grandfather guide you. He knows your strengths and weaknesses better than anyone. By learning from him, you can uncover and address your flaws."

"Do you think that'll really work?" Chigusa asked hesitantly.

"It worked for me," Ash replied with a smile. "When I started training with my teacher, Professor Oak, he helped me unlearn my bad habits and rebuild my understanding from the ground up."

Ash recounted how, despite his initial knowledge from games and familiarity with Pokémon battles, his real-world understanding was flawed.

Professor Oak had patiently corrected him, teaching him to approach battles as dynamic events rather than the turn-based structure he was used to. It was through this process that Ash grew into the trainer he was today.

"Professor Oak? You're one of Professor Oak's students?!" Chigusa exclaimed, her eyes wide with surprise.

Professor Oak's fame as a Pokémon researcher was world-renowned. Though his reputation as a trainer wasn't as illustrious, his association with legends like Agatha of the Elite Four added to his credibility.

Ash nodded modestly.

"I see," Chigusa said, determination lighting up her face. "Thank you, Ash and Misty. I'll start over and learn from Grandpa!"

"Good decision," Ash said with a grin. "Rest up tonight. Tomorrow, have a serious talk with your grandpa. He has high hopes for you."

The next morning, Ash woke early, intending to start his morning exercise. To his surprise, Kenzo and Chigusa were already at the training ground, engaged in basic drills.

"Good morning, Mr. Kenzo, Chigusa!" Ash greeted as he approached.

"Good morning, Ash! Did we wake you with our training?" Chigusa asked, her tone apologetic.

"Not at all. I always get up around this time," Ash replied, motioning toward Pikachu.

"Pika pika!" Pikachu affirmed with a cheerful nod.

"No wonder you've achieved so much at such a young age," Kenzo said with admiration. "Talent alone isn't enough—you've worked hard for your strength. Your future is boundless!"

As Ash began his own training routine, his Pokémon emerged one by one. Each appearance left Kenzo and Chigusa increasingly astonished.

"That Gyarados... it's enormous!" Chigusa gasped, her eyes fixed on the towering water-type, which measured nearly 30 meters in length.

Kenzo, however, had his attention on another Pokémon. "That Snorlax... it's extraordinary," he muttered, his voice tinged with disbelief.

Snorlax might have been slightly smaller than average, but its physical conditioning, agility, and explosive power far surpassed any Snorlax Kenzo had seen before.

"What kind of trainer is Ash, really?" Kenzo wondered, his gaze fixed on the young man who was now directing his Pokémon with precision.

As the morning sun rose higher, Chigusa's resolve solidified. Watching Ash's unwavering dedication and the bond he shared with his Pokémon filled her with inspiration.

With her grandfather's guidance and her renewed determination, she was ready to take the first steps toward becoming a stronger trainer.
