Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 211 - 209: Another Year’s First Snow
Sienna Thornton fished out a half sausage from the hot pot, dipped it in some tomato sauce, and began to eat it in small bites, occasionally licking the tomato sauce from her lips with her tongue.
Simon Forrester quietly watched her, the two of them separated by a steaming divided hot pot.
She slowly finished eating the sausage, then finally looked up at him, giving him a slight smile before lowering her gaze back to the hot pot to fish out the lamb slices she’d just put in.
It was as if he made a casual remark and she casually replied, "Isn’t it nice with just the two of us? If we had a child, we wouldn’t even have the quiet space to eat and talk like this."
He chuckled helplessly, "But people ultimately have to have children, right?"
She took a sip of soup and nodded, "For some people, yes."
He smiled bitterly, not pressing the issue any further, though he was still inwardly affected.
In the past, whenever the topic of having children came up, she would always block him with a single sentence, quickly ending the conversation. But this time, she instinctively regarded the "child" he mentioned as their unborn child. Subconsciously, she had already developed a sense of belonging in their relationship.
Her reaction exceeded his expectations, so he was quite pleased at the moment.
He continued to place vegetables in her bowl, and said softly, "On the twenty-eighth, I’ll go back to your hometown with you. I’m not comfortable with you going back alone."
"Okay," Sienna Thornton smiled, "But don’t you have to have a reunion dinner at your grandfather’s house for New Year?"
"We’ll try to come back on the morning of the third to visit him."
"As long as it’s okay with you."
Simon Forrester made such arrangements not only because he was worried about Sienna Thornton going back to Wrayhaven alone, but mostly to accompany her in putting up an act.
Previously, when she was taken by the village chief, he threw out a fake marriage certificate. All her relatives back home thought she was married, and if she went back alone for the New Year, who knows what those relatives would gossip about.
Simon Forrester thought it over and decided he would rather endure a scolding from Old Master Forrester than let Sienna Thornton go back alone.
After finishing the hot pot, the two of them cleaned up the kitchen and dining room together, and were now lying on the recliner by the floor-to-ceiling window watching the snow.
This year, affected by the El Niño phenomenon, the first snow came particularly late. It was already the twenty-sixth of the lunar month when small snowflakes finally began to drift down from the sky.
The snowflakes were delicate and bright white, descending slowly, seemingly illuminating the dark sky.
Sienna Thornton was nestled in Simon Forrester’s arms, playing with his big hand which was slightly calloused from years of drawing with a pen.
Every now and then, she would grab his hand to nibble on it, or tilt her head to kiss him, retreating into his embrace with a laugh whenever he started to breathe heavily, treating him like a toy to stave off boredom.
After playing for a while, she started yawning continuously, drowsily asking, "What’s so nice about watching the snow?"
"It’s the first snow."
"I know, but what’s so nice about the first snow?"
Simon Forrester paused slightly, then curled his lips knowingly, "—Because I found that making a wish upon the first snow is more effective than on a shooting star."
Sienna Thornton laughed, "Is there such a saying? Have you tried it?"
Simon Forrester ruffled her hair, leaned down, and kissed her cheek, teasing, "Last year when we watched the first snow together, you made three wishes, and I think two of them have already come true?"
Sienna Thornton turned back to look at him, "Really? What wishes did I make last year?"
"You said you hoped your mom would get better soon, and you wished to earn more money to give her a good life. Haven’t both of those come true now?"
"Huh?" Sienna Thornton scratched her head, muttering to herself, "Seems like it, they really have." Saying this, she wrapped her arms around his neck, snuggling up as she sat up, "What about you? What wish did you make upon the first snow last year? Has it come true?"
"... It has."
Realizing he wanted to brush it off, she wasn’t satisfied, nagging him for an answer, "What wish did you make? Tell me."
He encircled her in his arms, pulling her into his embrace, kissed her on the forehead and then on the tip of her nose, whispering, "Last year’s wish—was that we could watch the first snow together again this year, which has come true; this year’s wish—is to watch every first snow with you in the future."
She was taken aback, murmuring, "I thought your wish would be to make billions next year or to secure some big project somewhere."
"..." Simon Forrester leaned down to kiss her, "So, can this year’s wish come true?"
She smiled, cupping his face, gazing deeply into his eyes, "It will, I love you."
It was the first time she’d said "I love you" to him, making him so excited that his eyes became red and his throat choked, holding her uncontrollably.
"I love you too, very, very much..."
-
On the twenty-seventh of the lunar month, Sienna Thornton and Simon Forrester spent the whole day shopping for New Year’s goods. They bought new clothes for Melinda Linton and Jenna Raines, along with various expensive dried goods and nuts for Melinda to prepare food and drinks for the entire family for New Year.
After packing the items, they filled a whole car. When it became clear that they couldn’t fit any more luggage, Simon Forrester simply hired a van to carry the New Year’s goods, planning to have it follow their car to Wrayhaven the next day.
When he came upstairs, Sienna Thornton was in the walk-in closet packing their luggage. Seeing her put their intimate clothing together, closely nestled, filled Simon Forrester with a deep sense of happiness.
He walked over to help her pack, casually asking, "I thought you didn’t have a habit of spending New Year’s with the Raines Family."
"I really didn’t before, couldn’t wait to stay as far away from that home as possible. But this year I need to take my mom back, so I figured I’d just do everything properly."
Simon Forrester nodded, advising, "Your mom is still connected to that family, so try to control your temper, and don’t argue with your stepfather when you go back."
"I’ll do my best, only my best!" She ended with a definitive push down of the suitcase, ensuring it was tightly shut.
Simon Forrester pushed the suitcase aside, picked up a clean bathrobe, and wrapped his arm around her as they left. After a few steps, he suddenly veered them back into the walk-in closet, stopping in front of the watch cabinet.
He bent slightly, taking out an unworn Cartier mechanical watch from the far corner of the cabinet, smiling, "How about we take this watch back and give it to your stepfather?"
Sienna Thornton reacted strongly, snatching it away, exclaiming, "This watch is worth over two hundred thousand; why give it to him?" Saying this, she took it out and put it on her own wrist, "I’ll keep it for myself!"
"This watch was a gift from Nina Sinclair; are you sure you want to wear it yourself?"
"..." Sienna Thornton paused in adjusting the watch strap, then after a moment, took it off and put it back in the case, "If it’s from Nina, then give it to Felix Raines, better than seeing it here and getting annoyed."
Saying this, she stomped out.
Simon Forrester was left speechless and amused, tucking the watch case into the suitcase.
