Our Love Story: Hard to Guard Against the Sudden Love Strike-Chapter 212 - 210: Deciding to Search for My Father
Simon Forrester knew that Felix Raines often looked down on Sienna Thornton since she was young. Sienna’s hostility toward him was normal, but there was also Melinda Linton between them. Melinda felt depressed seeing the tension between them; these emotions were buried in her heart for a long time, which caused her heart condition to worsen.
If a watch worth over two hundred thousand could make Felix treat Sienna politely and be nicer to Melinda, then it would be worth it. Melinda would be healthy, Sienna would be happy, and everything would go smoothly.
This watch was not meant to honor Felix but to buy Sienna’s peace of mind. Ultimately, it’s merely a transaction.
But Sienna mixed her personal feelings into it, thinking it was forcing her to play the role of a modern saint to give a gift to someone who had been horrible to her since childhood. She couldn’t accept it in her heart, clearly believing herself to be someone who sees love and hate clearly.
However, after Simon analyzed the situation with her, she understood and no longer opposed him gifting the watch to Felix.
On the early morning of lunar February 28th, Simon drove the Urus to send Sienna and Melinda, along with two others, back to Wrayhaven.
With New Year approaching, the highway was packed with vehicles, almost all rushing to head back home for the holidays.
Sienna sat in the passenger seat, chatting and laughing with Melinda and Jenna Raines in the back.
Simon focused on driving, smiling as he listened to their conversation.
Melinda mentioned she recently went back for a hospital check-up. The doctor said her condition was good, and there was no need to worry as long as she remained in good spirits.
Jenna mentioned that her baking course would end in late June, and then the school would recommend them for internships in the hotel dessert department. If their evaluation during the internship went well, they could stay at the hotel for work.
Everything was moving in a progressively better direction.
Sienna was in a good mood and also told Melinda that after the New Year, she would establish a partnership law firm. Once the income comes in, she plans to find a way to purchase the house where they currently reside.
Upon hearing this, Melinda suddenly lamented: "In the past, there were no private law firms domestically, and your biological father always said private law firms were the trend of the future."
As she spoke, Sienna, sitting in the passenger seat, immediately turned around, shocked, and asked: "My biological father is also a lawyer?"
Melinda shook her head: "I don’t know if he was a lawyer, but he knew many things and was very knowledgeable."
Sienna was dumbfounded: "Why didn’t you tell me this before?"
Melinda’s eyes reddened, turning her face towards the window: "We talked about many things, and a lot has been forgotten."
Sienna, emotionally stirred: "Then what do you remember? Quickly tell me everything you recall!"
Melinda, however, refused to speak of past events.
Sienna turned back, feeling lost.
Simon held her hand, shook his head, indicating she shouldn’t pursue the topic further.
-
On the journey, the mention of Sienna’s biological father by Melinda suddenly shifted the atmosphere to tension.
By the afternoon, they arrived at the community where the Raines family resided in Wrayhaven.
Jenna went upstairs to call people; upon hearing a carload of New Year goods had arrived, Jared Raines and Felix quickly came down to help move them, finishing it all in a flash.
Felix and Jared took turns approaching Simon to offer him a cigarette, which he declined. They then flattered him, inviting him upstairs.
The group went upstairs.
Since Melinda and Jenna hadn’t been around, the house was filthy and chaotic. Sienna, unable to sit idle for more than a moment, tugged on Simon, intending to leave.
She went to say goodbye to Melinda, who was in the kitchen, busy cleaning and unpacking the supplements Simon had previously brought for her from the old residence, intending to stew them for Jared and Felix to eat, without even having time to care where Sienna would stay for the night.
Sienna felt uneasy seeing this, and came out to call Simon, planning to leave. Simon indicated she should wait a moment, and took out the Cartier mechanical watch right in front of her, placing it before Felix.
Felix had never worn a watch worth over a hundred dollars in his life, so he didn’t know what Cartier was or what a mechanical watch was. But he knew the watch was brought by Simon, hence it must be worth a minimum of a few thousand.
He wore his reading glasses and took out the watch, scrutinizing it thoroughly inside and out, signaling for Jared to come over: "Son, check the price of this watch on your phone."
Checking the price in front of the gift giver — this kind of thing could only be done by Felix.
Sienna rolled her eyes.
Jared snapped a photo with his phone, and after some unknown search, exclaimed: "Dad! This watch is worth over thirty thousand!"
Felix, perhaps taken aback, almost dropped the watch still in his hand, nearly letting it roll to the ground, his stubby frame lunging forward to catch it in his arms.
That look was beyond comical.
Felix sat back down on the sofa, stunned for a while, suddenly jumped up, grasping Simon’s hand, expressed his gratitude tearfully: "Oh, my dear son-in-law, why did you give me such a valuable watch? Over thirty thousand is the worth of a house!"
He likely intended to say, wouldn’t it be better to give him thirty thousand in cash directly?
Simon smiled slightly: "It’s not over thirty thousand; this series is worth just over twenty thousand. Sienna has already bought the house for you, and you’re not lacking one, so gifting you a watch is quite fitting, right?"
"Yes, yes, the watch is good, the watch is good."
Felix wore the watch on his wrist carefully, fearing his rough hand might scratch the smooth, shiny dial.
Simon quickly retracted his smile, looked at him coldly, and said sternly: "Be nicer to Aunt and Sienna, and there will be no shortage of good things for you in the future."
"Yes, yes, I will, I will."
Felix spoke, promptly getting up to run to the kitchen, gently pulling Melinda aside, softly saying: "Melinda, please go out and rest; I’ll cook."
Sienna watched all this, feeling deeply disgusted and ironic.
She and Simon soon left the Raines family, finding a three-star hotel in the county to stay.
The hotel environment wasn’t great; they had booked the best presidential suite, but the dim lighting and outdated decor made the atmosphere feel quite oppressive.
Simon didn’t say anything, but Sienna already felt uneasy inside. Upon entering the room, she didn’t even want to unpack, simply held Simon silently for a long while.
Simon roughly understood why she was upset and didn’t speak to disturb her, but held her quietly, accompanying her while watching the small town’s sunset.
Night quickly fell, the wind outside whipping fiercely.
Sienna suddenly tightened her hold on Simon, sniffed, and softly said: "I want to find my dad, will you help me?"
"Okay." Simon held her close, kissed her gently on the temple, "Let’s look for him together; right after the New Year, we’ll start looking."
