One Night Stand With Alexander Blackwood-Chapter 39 — Thirty-nine
The doctor watched Alexander’s expression changed several times and he sighed.
"I just thought to inform you about it. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving."
Alexander nodded, and the doctor walked out.
After the doctor had left, Alexander leaned back into his chair as he recalled the moments between he and Serena. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Suddenly, he slammed his palms on the table, making a loud noise which rippled across the silent office. Taking a deep breath, he rose to his feet and walked out.
He was then approached by Maya whose eyes flickered with confusion and fear.
"Mr. Blackwood, they wheeled her out. Do you have any idea what is going on?" She asked, uncertainty coated in her tone.
Alexander’s teeth caught his bottom lips as his eyes remained on the two ladies whose gaze was fixated deeply on him. How was he going to explain that Serena needed surgery?
He swallowed, caught between telling the truth and keeping a secret.
"Mr. Blackwood, Serena is the only one I have left in this world. If something were to happen to her, I am not sure I’d be able to survive." Mama started, wiping the tears in her eyes which threatened to fall. "So please, I’m begging you. Tell us what’s going on." She pleaded.
Alexander sighed before repeating what the doctor had told him earlier. When he was finally done, disbelief clouded Maya’s and Mama’s eyes.
"Impossible." She shook her head, unable to believe it. "That’s impossible. That cannot be possible."
She almost flew into a state of hysteria, but fortunately, Maya was able to hold her down.
"Mr. Blackwood..." Maya started tentatively. "Would... would she be okay?" She asked carefully, her voice barely above a whisper.
Alexander’s eyes tightened into fists by his side. For the first time, he was clueless. He had nothing to say. Not even a word of comfort.
"She will be fine." He could only force these words out. "Serena is strong. She won’t give up so easily."
Maya nodded, but tears gathered in her eyes. She helped Mama take a seat.
Alexander, on the other hand, leaned against the wall with one hand in his pocket. "She will be fine." He murmured under his breath.
"She’s a strong girl. She won’t give up." He continued murmuring under his breath.
His hands clenched into fists. "Whoever has hurt her, I will make sure they pay... even if it is with their lives." He vowed, his eyes blazing with fierce determination to avenge Serena.
The surgery lasted about three hours. And when they were done, Serena was wheeled out of the operating theatre and into a VIP room.
The doctor walked to Alexander whose eyes remained on Serena. She was unconscious, and her face pale.
"Doc," Alexander exhaled, ruffling his hair.
"The surgery was a success. All internal bleeding has been taken care of." The doctor informed him.
Alexander’s tense shoulders softened as he murmured under his breath. "Thank goodness."
"Is there anything else?" He asked, seeing that the doctor still remained.
"Well... yes." The doctor nodded positively.
Alexander’s brows drew together. "I hope there are no more complications."
"Oh... not at all." The doctor waved his hand frantically. "I just wanted to let you know about her recovery plan."
Alexander stared at the doctor pointedly. "Next time, you go straight to the point and don’t scare me again."
The doctor chuckled, then nodded with a cheeky smile.
"Can I see her now?" Alexander asked, but his attention was on the two ladies whose eyes were fixated on him.
"She is still unconscious. But you can see her. Just make sure you don’t disturb her."

The next morning, Serena’s eyelashes fluttered. With great difficulty, she opened her eyes. She looked around, and confusion settled in her.
"Where am I?" She asked herself as the white background appeared in her eyes.
"Serena, you’re awake." Maya’s hoarse, but excited voice sounded as she clapped.
Serena gazed at her, and smiled softly. "What... what happened? Where am I?"
"You are at the hospital. Alexander brought you here last night." Maya answered, holding Serena’s hands tightly.
"Why?" Serena probed softly.
Before Maya could reply, the door to the hospital room was opened and Alexander and Mama walked in.
Seeing that she was awake, Mama rushed to her side. Tears filled her eyes as she brushed a strand of hair away from Serena’s face.
"I’m glad you’re okay." Mama sniffed.
"I’m fine." Serena cracked a soft smile. "What happened?" She then probed gently.
"Well..." Mama hesitated as she turned to Alexander who had been leaning on the door.
"Mr. Blackwood," Serena called out quietly.
Alexander straightened when he heard her call for him. For a moment, he didn’t move.
Serena gazed at him without saying anything. For a moment, none of them spoke a word. Maya and Mama looked at both of them while they secretly exchanged glances.
"Why are you here?" Serena finally broke the silence.
"Because you were hurt and I couldn’t leave you." Alexander confessed quietly.
Serena’s heart skipped a beat as she listened to his confession.
"Alexander..." She paused, unable to utter a word.
"For how long has this been going on?" He inquired.
Serena didn’t reply, instead, she feigned ignorance. ",8 don’t know what you are talking about."
"Serena." Alexander called out in a clipped tone, low and dangerous. His eyes were red, evident that he hadn’t slept for a while.
"You suffered from internal bleeding. And you are telling me you don’t know what I’m talking about? Do you take me for a fool?" Alexander questioned, his voice lower with each word uttered.
"For how long has your dad been abusing you?" He questioned her again, but this time, his voice was gentle.
Serena swallowed. She could see something dangerous in his eyes. Perhaps... it was that fierce protectiveness which only her mother had ever shown to her.
"You don’t need to worry. I am used to it." She answered quietly without looking at him.
Alexander clenched his fists tightly. How could she be used to it? That was not possible at all. He would make them pay. For everyone who hurt her, he would make sure they received their payback in a hundredfold.
