My Young Husband, The Assasin-Chapter 64: Renji’s desperation, Tetsuya’s sacrifice
Chapter 64 - Renji's desperation, Tetsuya's sacrifice
The atmosphere calmed down slightly as Tetsuya asked Arashi about what had actually happened and where Keiko was, as he had just realized upon arriving that he hadn't seen the purple-haired woman. After all, Keiko was supposed to be protecting Aira, so why wasn't she here during such a critical moment?
The eccentric-looking young man, with his signature facial and ear piercings, explained the situation and Keiko's whereabouts to avoid any misunderstandings. After Tetsuya learned the truth, he asked the other Asahi employees who were still waiting in front of the operating room to go to the cafeteria. Tetsuya did this intentionally, as he felt it was enough for him to wait here alone. Renji would surely arrive soon, and he would be furious. Tetsuya didn't want the others to witness his cousin's outburst, as they might get caught up in the trouble.
Tetsuya's prediction was correct. About five minutes after Arashi and his two friends left, Renji arrived, running in a panic, still wearing his school uniform. It seemed he had skipped school to rush to the hospital, but if Tetsuya were in his position, he would have done the same. Who wouldn't panic and fear upon hearing that their beloved wife had been hospitalized due to severe bleeding?
Renji didn't pay attention to Tetsuya, who was standing in front of the operating room. All he wanted to do was burst inside and see his wife's condition.
"Aira!!" Renji cried out in anguish, trying to enter the operating room.
Renji's body was immediately held back firmly by Tetsuya to prevent him from entering the operating room and disturbing the doctors and nurses who were working hard to save Aira and her baby.
Renji's strength was incredible. Despite his slimmer build compared to Tetsuya, no one would have guessed he had such immense strength.
"Calm down, Renji!!" Tetsuya shouted, struggling to hold him back.
"Move! Let me in to see my wife!" Renji thrashed.
"I know you're panicked and worried, but you're not the only one feeling this way. I'm the same. So calm down and don't act recklessly. Leave everything to the doctors and God because that's all we can do right now," Tetsuya yelled loudly, trying to clear Renji's troubled mind.
"But Tetsuya..."
"Hold on and calm down, Renji, I beg you," Tetsuya said softly, understanding how Renji felt because, after all, Aira was like family to him, too. Renji's body suddenly went still, as if Tetsuya's words had touched his heart.
When Tetsuya felt that Renji had stopped struggling, he released his hold but didn't let his guard down, fearing that Renji might lose control again. Fortunately, Renji didn't smash through the operating room door as Tetsuya had feared. Renji's eyes were filled with sorrow and guilt.
His body slowly slumped to the floor, sitting weakly in front of the operating room door as he cried bitterly, lamenting the state of his wife, who was fighting for her life alone inside. Renji had promised to be by Aira's side during childbirth. Still, now he could only sit and cry in front of the operating room, unable to do anything.
In his heart, Renji continued to pray fervently to God, hoping that He would save his wife and child. They were all he had left in this world after losing his entire family. To Renji, Aira was the light in his dark life. If God were to take her away, Renji's life would be plunged into darkness and lose all meaning, as he would no longer have a reason to live.
"Whose doing is this, Tetsuya?" Renji asked amidst his tears. Tetsuya remained silent, unsure whether to answer or not.
"Answer me, Tetsuya!" Renji's hand gripped Tetsuya's collar tightly. "Tell me who's responsible," he demanded angrily.
"Grandfather," Tetsuya replied honestly, knowing it was pointless to lie. Renji would find out the truth on his own, and that would only make things more difficult in the future.
For a moment, Renji fell silent, his eyes wide. Then, the next second, he burst into bitter laughter. "Hahahahaha..." Renji laughed sorrowfully.
"Renji..." Tetsuya murmured sadly.
Renji's eyes were filled with deep hatred. "This time, don't stop me from wiping out the Ishikawa clan," he hissed furiously.
Tetsuya let out a deep sigh, his eyes looking sombre as he found himself in a major dilemma. "I'll handle this matter," he said.
"No. I'll do it myself. I'll avenge everything Grandfather has done to us," Renji hissed.
"Now you have a family. If something happens to you, Aira will be heartbroken and lost. You also need to think about your child," Tetsuya tried to advise him.
"Then what about you, Tetsuya?" Renji asked softly, as Tetsuya also deserved to live and be happy.
"I'll be fine, so don't worry," Tetsuya replied casually, chuckling.
"Why do you always sacrifice yourself for me, even ignoring your happiness?" Renji lamented, feeling guilty toward Tetsuya.
"As I promised Sora, I'll always protect and take care of you like an older brother. So don't make that face. You're about to become a father—be happy," Tetsuya said.
"This is what I hate about you, Tetsuya," Renji sneered at Tetsuya's relaxed attitude.
"You could say it's one of my strengths," Tetsuya chuckled, casually responding to Renji's jab.
Renji was quiet, as was Tetsuya, as they waited to learn the result of Aira's surgery. After approximately an hour, the operating room door finally opened, and a tall guy in green scrubs with the same coloured mask came out. He approached Tetsuya.
"We completed the surgery. The mother and baby are both safe," he announced, delivering the news they had been waiting for.
Renji's face brightened with happiness. The fear that had gripped him disappeared immediately, giving way to a combination of relief and joy on learning that his wife and child were safe. Too full of joy to be able to speak, Renji only smiled widely with tears in his eyes.
"Thank you, Doctor," Tetsuya said gratefully on Renji's behalf.
"You're welcome, and congratulations on becoming a father," the doctor said, congratulating Tetsuya for mistaking him for the patient's husband.
An awkward laugh escaped Tetsuya's lips when he was referred to as Aira's husband. At the same time, the young man beside him immediately put on a cold expression, feeling uneasy. The thought of being Aira's husband—or even approaching her—would surely get him killed by Renji first.
"I'm not her husband. He is," Tetsuya said, introducing the handsome young man beside him.
For a moment, the young doctor was stunned, looking Renji up and down. He was still wearing his high school uniform, complete with indoor shoes. The doctor couldn't help but chuckle softly at Tetsuya's seemingly absurd statement.
"You've got quite the sense of humour," the doctor chuckled, patting Tetsuya's shoulder.
Renji's eyes narrowed sharply, and a cold aura emanated from him, making Tetsuya even more panicked. "Doctor, how is her condition?" Tetsuya asked, trying to change the subject.
"Your wife has been moved to the recovery room and will wake up in one or two hours. If you'll excuse me," the doctor said, then walked away, leaving the operating room.
Renji's hands clenched tightly at his sides, his eyes filled with a murderous glare. He really wanted to punch the doctor, venting the frustration in his heart.
"Your face is terrifying, Renji!" Tetsuya said lazily.
"Happy to be called the husband of your cousin's wife, huh?" Renji sneered angrily, throwing a murderous glare.
"No. Didn't I say that you're her husband? But the doctor didn't believe me," Tetsuya tried to defend himself, not wanting to face Renji's wrath.
"That's what makes me angry. What's wrong with me being young and still in high school? At least I have a strong sense of responsibility, daring to marry the woman carrying my child instead of leaving her alone," Renji huffed, annoyed that he wasn't believed to be Aira's husband just because of his student status.
Tetsuya sighed heavily and patted Renji's shoulder to cheer him up. "Enough of that. Don't make that face. You should be happy now that you've become a father. Congratulations on the arrival of your child," Tetsuya said sincerely and with genuine pleasure.
"Thanks, Tetsuya," Renji replied with a faint smile.
"After that, do you want to go to Aira or go to the nursery to see your baby?" Tetsuya asked, wanting to accompany Renji and not let him wander around the hospital alone.
"Let's go to the nursery," Renji answered enthusiastically, eager to see his firstborn son.
"I can't wait to see my nephew's face either—whether he looks like me or not," Tetsuya muttered, which annoyed Renji, the father.
"He's my child. How could he look like you, Tetsuya?" Renji grumbled, not accepting the idea that his child's face might resemble Tetsuya's.
"But I'm still his uncle, and the Ishikawa family traits will definitely be passed down to your child. So I'm not wrong," Tetsuya replied casually, not feeling guilty about his words.
"Whatever," Renji huffed, not wanting to engage further.
After the C-section, Aira was immediately moved from the operating room to the recovery room. The doctor would prescribe painkillers to reduce the pain from the incision. Aira was advised to get up and walk shortly after returning to the recovery room.
Aira successfully gave birth safely, and her baby was born perfectly healthy without any deficiencies. This was all thanks to the timely help of the Asahi Café staff. However, in this incident, Aira felt that two people had played a significant role: Saki, who had saved her from being shot even though the incident caused her stomach to hit something, leading to severe bleeding, and Keiko, Aira's bodyguard, who had donated her blood. She would have bled to death without her.

A wide grin wrinkled Renji's face as he gazed adoringly at the little angelic infant figure in the hospital bed. The infant, who resembled Renji, was just too cute in his baby clothes. However, Renji's smile faded when he noticed something odd. Upon closer inspection, he clearly read the name on the baby's identification tag: under "Father's Name," it said Tetsuya Ishikawa, not Renji Ishikawa. This, of course, sparked Renji's anger as the biological father of the adorable baby.
"What is this?! I won't accept this!" he shouted furiously.
"Quiet down! Don't cause a commotion. This is the baby care room," Tetsuya scolded, noticing the stares from people passing by around them.
"Look at this and read the name tag on my child's crib!" Renji pointed, unable to accept what he saw.
Tetsuya's eyes carefully examined the name tag Renji was pointing at. The first thing he felt was shock, followed by amusement, because the hospital staff had genuinely mistaken him for Aira's husband. No wonder Renji was so furious and couldn't accept it.
"Enough of this. Let me handle it. You should go to Aira's recovery room and stay with her until she wakes up," Tetsuya said, trying to calm Renji down.
"No, I want to go and protest to—"
"Enough talking. Go and be with your wife. Don't make a fuss over something small," Tetsuya interrupted, pushing Renji away.
"But don't forget to ask them to change the father's name on my child's tag. Tell the hospital staff that the father's name is Renji Ishikawa, not Tetsuya Ishikawa," Renji shouted in protest.
"Alright, alright, I understand," Tetsuya replied lazily, then smiled faintly and shook his head at Renji's behaviour.
Finally, the atmosphere calmed down a bit. Thankfully, Aira and her baby were safe, which at least helped ease Renji's anger temporarily before the real storm hit. Yamato arrived after taking care of Saki, but once again, Tetsuya asked him to go to the nurse in charge of the baby care room to change the father's name on Aira's baby's tag before Renji came back to check if his name was written correctly.
Today had been truly extraordinary. Since morning, there had been one problem after another until night fell. At least after this, Tetsuya wanted to go home, lie down on his bed, and drift off to sleep. But before that, a warm bath sounded like a good idea.
Tetsuya's left chest throbbed painfully, and he felt something rising in his throat. He quickly ran to the bathroom—luckily, it wasn't far from where he was standing.
"Ugh~" Tetsuya spat out a mouthful of fresh blood. Not only did he vomit, but he also coughed several times, with the last cough bringing up more blood.
"Dammit~" he groaned in frustration. His hand reached up and clutched his left chest tightly, where he felt pain and tightness, making it hard to breathe.
Tetsuya continued to grip his chest tightly, grimacing in pain. Coincidentally, Yamato saw him because he had followed Tetsuya to the restroom after seeing him rush in.
"Young Master!" Yamato shouted in panic, seeing the blood in the sink.
"Don't shout, Yamato. I'm fine. Please lend me your handkerchief," Tetsuya said, his right hand reaching out to the side.
"Here, Young Master," Yamato handed over his silk handkerchief.
"It seems my condition is getting more annoying," Tetsuya groaned as he wiped his mouth and cleaned it with the handkerchief.
"Should I—"
"Don't tell anyone," Tetsuya interrupted coldly, not wanting anyone to know about his condition, which could be described as deteriorating. Lately, he had even been taking high-dose painkillers concocted by Tsuchihebi.
Usually, people with congenital heart conditions like his should always wear a special watch to monitor their heart rate per minute. If the heart muscle works even slightly harder, it could have serious consequences, and it can lead to death from a heart attack.
Fortunately, Tetsuya didn't need to use such a device in recent years, all thanks to the medicine concocted by Tsuchihebi, the poison expert and traditional medicine god. This allowed Tetsuya to move freely and live like a normal person. The medicine Tetsuya had been taking all this time actually only worked as a suppressant and painkiller, not a cure. Moreover, doctors had once said that Tetsuya would likely only live until the age of 20. However, the reality was that he had lived eight years longer than the doctors' prediction—truly a miraculous secret of God.

However, in recent times, Tetsuya's heart condition has worsened due to the medicine provided by Tsuchihebi. Even the doctor has been straightforward, saying that Tetsuya only has a few months left. If his condition continues to weaken day by day, the private doctor treating Tetsuya urged him to be hospitalized or receive intensive care at home for his own good.
Tetsuya rejected all the doctor's suggestions and wanted to continue living as usual, refusing to lie weakly in a hospital bed like a sick person. Even though he was seriously ill, he wanted to spend his final days happily, not missing a single moment until death came for him.
Honestly, Tetsuya hoped that God would give him a little more time until Pony Girl's (Saki's) wedding to Issei. Not only did he want to see the two of them standing together at the altar, but he also wanted to see them happy as a married couple.
"But your condition can be said to be critical. If only there were a suitable heart donor, perhaps your life could..."
"Even though my life may be short, I'm happy because I got to see Renji get married and be happy with the person he loves. I even got to see my nephew's face," Tetsuya said sincerely, without any regret or sadness.
His expression looked so strong, even though he knew death was right in front of him, just waiting for the right moment for the sickle of the god of death to take his soul back to the owner of life.
"Do Young Master Renji know about your condition?" Yamato asked cautiously.
"Let's close this discussion," Tetsuya interrupted coldly. He did not want to discuss his illness and preferred to discuss other critical matters.
Unbeknownst to them, one of the people in one of the restroom stalls overheard the boss and his worker talking by accident. They were utterly shocked, never expecting that someone as cheerful as Tetsuya was seriously ill. From the outside, he seemed perfectly fine, but in reality, he was enduring pain and fighting his illness.
Truly, Tetsuya was an extraordinary and admirable figure for being able to hide the truth so well.
