Chapter 249: Chapter 249: Meeting an Online Friend

Simon Sue chuckled softly and said to Clarissa Morgan, "Miss Morgan, you really are naive. Do you think I’d still believe you?"

Clarissa Morgan: "I was thoughtless about what happened before."

Simon Sue let out a cold laugh, "Even if we were in the same camp before, now you’ve turned me into your enemy. Besides, I don’t deny that I like Audrey Sutton, but I’m not as cheap as you. You know she’s already married, yet you still decide to do things that harm others without benefiting yourself. And do you really think that if she divorced Shane Warner, he’d end up with you?"

"Heh, cut the pretense. People are selfish, and there’s no need for you to moralize with me. Your way of thinking only shows that your feelings for Audrey Sutton aren’t deep. That’s why you don’t have the idea of making her your own."

Simon Sue couldn’t be bothered to analyze what kind of mentality Clarissa Morgan had to speak so righteously, or to waste more words on her. He said, "I advise you not to bother Audrey Sutton anymore, or I’ll release these photos. At worst, we’ll both suffer. I don’t care."

Saying this, Simon Sue turned and left with his assistant.

Clarissa Morgan didn’t want to engage in mutual destruction with Simon Sue. She had worked hard to reach this point and couldn’t afford to lose everything over this.

If the photos were leaked, it would affect more than just her marriage with Quentin Sterling; most importantly, it would impact her career.

She had trained in ballet for over twenty years, enduring countless hardships to reach her current success. Her career was flourishing, so why would she risk ruining everything over a minor celebrity?

She would simply have to think of another way.

...

After starting school, Audrey Sutton’s life gradually resumed its previous rhythm.

In the morning, she would prepare breakfast, wait for him to finish his workout, and come downstairs to eat together. Then Shane would take her to school before heading to the company.

Over time, their routine seemed to develop into a kind of unspoken understanding.

That day, after finishing her morning classes, Audrey Sutton had lunch at the canteen with Flora Lane and returned to the dorm to prepare for a nap when she saw Barry Barrett wearing a pretty little dress, putting on makeup in front of the mirror.

Flora opened her mouth and asked, "Bear, are you dating someone?"

Seraphina Vaughn, who was lying on the bed watching a series, said, "It’s that guy she met online playing games. They’ve been chatting every night. I bet she’s taken a liking to him."

Barry Barrett finished drawing her eyebrows, straightened up, and glared at them, "Don’t spout nonsense, we’re just at the stage of mutual admiration, not dating yet."

Seraphina Vaughn clicked her tongue twice, "An online meet-up is hardly not heading towards reality, is it?"

Flora voiced her concern, "Do you know what kind of person he is? There are lots of scumbags online conning girls these days, Bear. Don’t you dare lose your innocence to him."

Barry glared at her, "Do you really think I’m that dumb?"

Flora: "It’s not guaranteed. Nowadays, if a jerk looks a bit handsome and adds some sweet talk, you’ll be so woozy that who knows, you might impulsively book a room and be duped by him, then he disappears for good."

Audrey Sutton: "I think so too. There are too many fake things online. You’re meeting him for the first time, and what if you get conned? Why don’t we go with you this time to help you gauge him?"

Barry: "That would be awkward. He’d easily see that I don’t trust him."

Flora: "You shouldn’t trust him from the beginning. If he is a decent person, your cautiousness would make him see you as a serious person too. If you go carelessly, he might think you’re an easy target for cheat and hookup."

Barry paused her mascara application and skeptically said, "...Is it really like that?"

Audrey and Flora both nodded.

After two seconds of silence, Barry said, "Then hurry up and get ready. He arranged to meet at two, and we have to leave by one-thirty. We can’t keep him waiting."

Seraphina Vaughn: "What’s wrong with making him wait? Can’t he have a little patience?"

Barry: "It’s our first meeting, and I can’t possibly keep him waiting too long."

Flora: "You say you’re not excited about him, but look who’s considering everything for him now."

Barry: "Alright, enough chatter. You guys get ready."

Seraphina Vaughn continued lazily lying on the bed, watching TV on her phone and said, "I can’t go. I have classes in the afternoon."

Flora: "I can’t go either. I promised to go work at the store this afternoon."

Audrey Sutton: "I’m free this afternoon."

Barry: "You’re the best, Audrey!"

Flora looked at Barry and then at Audrey, unceremoniously said, "Audrey going with you won’t do much good. She’s naive herself and easily deceived. She can’t judge people well."

Audrey shot Flora a glance, "How am I naive? I’m pretty good at judging people, aren’t I? Otherwise, how did I find such a great husband?"

Flora inadvertently got a taste of Audrey’s happy relationship and playfully glared at her, "Get lost!"

Seraphina Vaughn finally sat up from the bed, looked at them, and said, "Having someone with you is always more reassuring. Even if he’s a bad guy, seeing two people coming will make him cautious. We’ll help Bear assess next time when we’re free."

Flora: "I’m afraid they might both be duped together."

Barry: "Do you really think Flora and I are that stupid?"

Flora, who seemed like an anxious mother hen, added, "Anyway, don’t believe those lines like inviting you to his place for some innocent activity, or asking you to taste pre-ordered food without being cautious. Ensure you order your own food once you get there. If he’s ordered something already, just say you’re not particularly fond of it and order something different to avoid him drugging you for a double KO."

As Barry applied her makeup, Flora continued giving her a myriad of scam avoidance tips.

When it was time to go out, Barry looked in the mirror again and thought the dress and makeup didn’t quite match, hesitated, but then decided to change outfits.

It was already 1:40 when they left, but thankfully the cafe for the meeting was close to the school, and they made it before 2 PM.

By coincidence, as they arrived at the cafe entrance, they saw a black Bentley car parked by the road.

Barry stood outside the shop, sending a message to her online friend, asking where he was.

Audrey Sutton saw the Bentley’s door open, and a man, about 1.8 meters tall, stepped out wearing a mist-blue casual shirt.

The man glanced towards them after getting out of the car. When Audrey finally saw his face, she felt a sense of familiarity, as if she had seen him somewhere before.

The man also stared at Audrey for a couple of moments, then with a smiling expression, headed directly towards them.

Audrey guessed that this was probably Barry’s online friend, so she secretly gave Barry a little nudge with her elbow, whispering to her, "Look quickly, is that him, the handsome guy?"

Barry looked up and saw the man already walking in their direction, seeming as if he had recognized her too.

When he approached, the man first glanced at Audrey, then turned to Barry with a warm smile and said, "You must be Bear, right?"
