Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 148: Framing Your Wife
Just a moment ago, Audrey Sutton was very firm, but now she looked aggrieved, her voice a bit whiny, as she complained to Shane Warner, "Honey, they’re accusing me of stealing!"
Clarissa Morgan immediately stepped in to mediate, saying, "It’s all a misunderstanding. Little Audrey must have just picked up the ring and didn’t have time to return it, I’m sure..."
Audrey couldn’t resist interrupting Clarissa Morgan’s twisting of the truth halfway through, pointing at the ring on the woman’s hand and deliberately whining to Shane Warner, "They dropped their ring themselves and then insisted I picked it up and didn’t return it, but I never even touched that ring. They’re deliberately framing your wife, trying to tarnish your name!"
Shane Warner, listening to her unusually whiny tone, realized she was just pretending, not truly feeling wronged inside.
However, he still had to give her face in public, especially since her words were true: if accused of such a thing as theft, it did indeed reflect poorly on him.
Shane Warner glanced at the ring on the woman’s hand and asked, "Ma’am, can you first confirm that this ring is yours?"
At this, the woman became immediately unhappy, taking off the ring and saying, "How could it not be mine?! My name is engraved inside! Third Young Master, you love your wife so much that you’re twisting facts!"
Shane Warner smiled mildly, speaking unhurriedly, "Don’t worry, ma’am, as long as the ring is indeed yours, it’s easily solvable."
Hearing this, the people around were a bit confused, moving in closer, even Audrey was unsure what he meant by this.
Shane Warner extended his hand, "May I take a closer look at the ring?"
The woman hesitated for a moment, thinking that Shane Warner couldn’t pull any tricks with so many eyes watching, so she handed the ring to him.
He held the ring up to the light for a look, then laughed, saying, "This ring is worth about two to five thousand on the market, with a cost of no more than five hundred. You suspect my wife of stealing your ring; does that mean you look down on me, thinking I can’t even afford a ring worth a few hundred?"
The woman froze, snatching the ring back, full of disbelief, "Impossible! My husband spent several hundred thousand on this! How could it only be worth a few hundred?!"
"I started in the jewelry business, and I do have this level of appraisal ability. If you have doubts, ma’am, you can take it to a certification center for verification. This is just an ordinary synthetic stone and isn’t technically a gemstone."
Upon hearing this, Audrey sneaked a glance at Clarissa Morgan, noticing a hint of displeasure in her brow, as if her plan had fallen through.
With composure, Shane Warner addressed Audrey with elegance, "This incident can be seen as a bond between us. Starfield once released a tanzanite ring, and if you’re interested, ma’am, I can offer you a thirty percent discount."
The woman was furious, holding the ring as she turned away, calling her husband to question about the ring as she walked.
Clarissa Morgan tried to act as the good person again, "It’s all a misunderstanding that disturbed everyone. I’ll apologize to Little Audrey on behalf of my friend."
Diana Dalton, however, was relentless, saying, "The Third Young Master can tell genuine from fake at a glance, but the Third Madam not necessarily. What if she thought that ring was real sapphire and wanted to keep it?"
Before Audrey could speak, Shane Warner, in a calm tone but with sharp words, responded, "Are you suggesting I can’t afford it?"
That one sentence left everyone speechless.
Whether Shane Warner had money or not, he was in the jewelry business himself. As long as Audrey said the word, she could have as many such rings as she wanted, so there was no need for theft.
Shane Warner displayed Audrey’s hand wearing the wedding ring to everyone present, subtly flaunting wealth: "I don’t believe she would use a hand adorned with a wedding ring worth millions to steal a ring possibly worth only tens of thousands, especially since that ring is fake."
Clarissa Morgan, worried about the situation getting out of hand, hurriedly chimed in nicely, "I also believe Little Audrey isn’t such a person."
Audrey coldly sneered in her heart, knowing that before Shane Warner arrived, Clarissa Morgan had been among those standing by, waiting to see her humiliated.
Now that Clarissa Morgan wanted to downplay the situation, Audrey was far from agreeable.
"I wasn’t the one who picked up that item. Surely someone present did and didn’t return it. If I remember correctly..."
Midway through her sentence, Audrey’s gaze shifted to Diana Dalton, continuing, "Earlier, it was Ms. Dalton who was the first to produce that ring, insisting it fell out of my bag."
Diana Dalton looked panicked, glancing at Shane Warner and hastily said, "I only saw something fall to the ground. At that time, madam, you were standing by my side, so I thought it fell from your bag. Now it seems I was mistaken, and I apologize sincerely to you."
"Seeing does not make it truth, let alone when you didn’t even see anything but vouched it to others. Has Miss Dalton heard the saying ’misfortune comes from the mouth’? I advise Miss Dalton to be more cautious with words in the future."
Diana Dalton, feeling unwilling but fearing to upset Audrey and Shane Warner further, which could ruin her career, put on a posture of humbly accepting the advice, "You’re right, madam, I’ll be more careful from now on."
Audrey, with the demeanor of a magnanimous person, glanced at Clarissa Morgan with meaning, knowing she was certainly involved in the incident.
Otherwise, without backing, would Diana Dalton dare to put on such an act?
"But how exactly was the ring lost, and who picked it up?" some onlookers in the crowd wondered.
Simon Sue, who had been standing by silently all along, then stepped forward, smiling as he explained, "I found the ring and was looking for its owner when Miss Morgan gathered everyone here. While taking out the ring just now, I accidentally dropped it, which led to this misunderstanding."
With Simon Sue’s explanation, all the doubts in people’s minds were resolved.
With Simon Sue’s faultless reputation in the circle, no one could accuse him of stealing simply because he picked up the ring either.
Audrey wasn’t sure who Simon Sue was helping by stepping forward, but his words thoroughly quelled those doubts about her character, though she felt it was likely helping Clarissa Morgan.
Seeing the plan had failed, they only wanted the situation to calm down quickly.
After the farce ended, Shane Warner immediately wrapped his arm around Audrey and left the venue.
Shane Warner first went to the car to fetch her down jacket, and this time she obediently wrapped herself in it.
Getting into the car, seated in the passenger seat, she tuned to a song she liked, munching on a cookie, "I knew your female alumna had no good intentions when she invited me."
