Chapter 149: Chapter 149: At Odds with a Cat

Shane reached over and turned down the music in the car a little before saying, "She is she and I am me, what do you mean ’my female schoolmate’?"

Audrey Sutton: "That’s what it is, I’m not wrong."

Shane: "I’ve got tons of female schoolmates."

Audrey Sutton: "This one’s particularly problematic. I suspect she married Brother Sterling just to find a rightful excuse to get close to you."

Shane: "That’s her business."

Audrey Sutton looked down and brushed off the cookie crumbs that had fallen on her collar, muttering, "I’m just afraid you can’t tell the difference between a person and a b*tch."

"If something even your wooden brain can understand, would I not get it?" Shane shot her a glance, watching her scatter cookie crumbs everywhere and told her, "Eat after you get off the car, you’re making a mess."

Audrey Sutton closed the cookie box as she spoke, "Not all things are clear just because you’re smart, otherwise why do ’green tea b*tches’ exist? Even the top students at school get played around by such girls, and speaking of which, Brother Sterling is an example."

"Don’t gossip behind people’s backs."

"I’m just speaking the truth, you know as well that your female schoolmate definitely didn’t marry Brother Sterling for love, right? Shouldn’t you, as Brother Sterling’s friend, hint at it to him?"

Shane stopped the car at a red light, turned to look at her, and said, "Haven’t you heard ’Better to tear down ten temples than break one marriage’? That’s someone else’s business, so don’t worry aimlessly about it — just mind yourself."

"Hmph." 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

In the car, only the sound of music from the speakers remained, as Audrey Sutton turned to look out of the window at the increasingly heavy snow, then glanced at him driving with his gaze fixed ahead.

At this moment, his side profile was alternately illuminated and shadowed by the streetlights along the road, but it didn’t affect his looks in the slightest.

Since that night, his attitude towards her seemed to have improved a bit, at least he wasn’t being mysteriously cold and giving her the silent treatment like before. She would rather he scolded her a couple of times to get over it, rather than deliberately avoiding her like he did before, which left her feeling helpless.

She wanted to seek him out but was afraid of annoying him; if she didn’t, her own impatience got the better of her.

She didn’t know if he continued this marriage because he felt responsible after sleeping with her, but anyway, it’s a chance he decided to give her again.

Regarding Clarissa Morgan’s matter, his behavior had also been quite satisfactory to her.

Recalling the performance he put on with her earlier in front of everyone and those things he said, Audrey Sutton now thought back and still felt a sense of satisfaction.

"What are you smiling stupidly about?"

Hearing his voice, Audrey Sutton suddenly snapped back to reality, unaware that her amusement had reached her face. She hurriedly stifled her smile with an awkward cough, lowered her head to retrieve her phone from her bag, and shared with her dorm mates the events of the evening.

Unconsciously, the car stopped in front of the house. Only then did Audrey Sutton put away her phone, unfasten her seatbelt, and push the door open to get out of the car.

"The road is slippery, walk slowly, don’t..."

"Ah—" Before Shane finished speaking, her scream came from outside the car.

Shane hastily opened the door and got out, only to see Audrey Sutton sitting in the snow, clutching her right ankle, wincing with pain.

"I really don’t know what you’re capable of." Shane reached out and helped her up from the ground.

Audrey Sutton hunched over, crying out from the pain, "It hurts, it hurts, wait, let me steady myself!"

After a rush, Audrey Sutton tried to stand up by herself and moved her foot a bit; it seemed her ankle was twisted, and it hurt fiercely.

Shane reopened the car door, helped her sit by the door, and squatted down to gently remove her high heels, "Where does it hurt?"

Audrey Sutton tried moving her foot around, pointing to her ankle, "Here... and here too, my sole feels uncomfortable too."

Shane placed her foot in his palm; he hadn’t even moved much when she cried out again, "No, no, don’t do it, it really hurts now."

"Could the bone be injured?"

Audrey Sutton frowned and mumbled, "I don’t know."

The car arrived at the doorstep, but without entering the house, Shane drove to the hospital.

After X-rays at the radiology department, the doctor said, "The bone isn’t injured, maybe only the soft tissue is bruised. You should apply ice packs when you get back. I’ll prescribe a bottle of liquid medicine, just rub it on when you’re home."

Hearing there was no major issue, Audrey Sutton finally breathed a sigh of relief.

Shane had scared her earlier in the car, saying if her bone was injured, they would need to set it, and since she’s so delicate, the pain from setting the bone would bring tears to her eyes.

This made Audrey Sutton anxious all the way.

Although her bone wasn’t hurt, the pain still lingered, and Audrey Sutton dared not put much weight on her right foot as she walked.

After getting home, Shane tossed an ice pack to her and headed upstairs, making Audrey Sutton think he wasn’t going to bother with her anymore.

Feeling slightly dissatisfied, she sat alone on the sofa with an ice pack on her foot in the freezing weather.

But within a few minutes, he came back down from upstairs dressed in loungewear.

Audrey Sutton’s eyes followed him as he went over, not a bit gently picking up and placing the sleeping Pea from the sofa onto the carpet.

He had always thought Pea was a girl, so he treated her somewhat politely, at most complaining about her shedding.

After finding out Pea was a boy, his politeness vanished, prohibiting him from getting on the sofa or the bed.

Pea had to either obediently sleep in his own nest or lie on the carpet.

Thankfully, Pea wasn’t as perceptive as General and didn’t realize he was being disliked.

A lazy stretch followed by a slow wag of his tail, Pea ambled over to the bowl of cat food and started munching.

Shane reached out and patted where Pea had lain, causing many loose hairs to drift into the air; he frowned slightly but expressed his discontent with Pea silently.

Seeing this, Audrey Sutton found it quite amusing; such a big man had nothing better to do than tussle with a cat.

"Ow!" Audrey Sutton softly exclaimed in pain, not expecting he would grab her injured foot as soon as he sat down, take away the ice pack she was holding, and start helping her soothe the swelling with it, "Be gentle, it’s not your foot, you don’t know how much it hurts, do you?"

"If it doesn’t hurt, you won’t learn your lesson." He said this, but lightened his grip significantly.

Audrey Sutton’s foot rested on his leg, his warm hand holding her foot, and his other hand softly moved the ice pack over her swelling.

Watching him lower his head, eyes focused in concentration on her foot, his serious manner causing a bit of fascination.

Audrey Sutton stared at him, her mouth unconsciously curling into a smile, happiness making her toes curl reflexively, prompting him to immediately look up and ask, "Painful?"

She quickly shook her head, pressed her lips together, and said, "A bit ticklish."

He rolled his eyes at her in mock irritation and continued to gently massage her foot.
