Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Misfortune Befalls the Family

"Audrey, we have several girls from your school in our team, why don’t we all go for a drink?"

Audrey Sutton wasn’t sure if it was Clarissa Morgan’s idea, wanting to know what kind of mischief and schemes this troublesome woman was up to.

She wiped off the excess lipstick from her lips with a tissue, touched up her makeup with a bit of foundation, packed her things into her bag, stood up, adjusted her dress and hair, and smiled as she linked her arm with Diana Dalton, saying, "Let’s go."

Diana Dalton was taken aback, seemingly surprised Audrey agreed so readily.

Audrey Sutton turned her head and said to Shane Warner, "Honey, I’m gonna go play around, call me if you miss me."

Shane Warner frowned, hearing her sweetly calling him "Honey," he knew something wasn’t right.

Diana Dalton didn’t head directly towards Simon Sue and Clarissa Morgan but led Audrey Sutton to meet a few sisters in her group.

They seemed to be a girl group from a recent talent show, quite popular, though Audrey Sutton wasn’t interested in these, so she wasn’t very familiar with these girls who looked quite similar.

Seeing it was just a group of girls, Shane Warner didn’t join the fun.

With him being alone, several company presidents approached him to chat and establish connections, but Shane Warner absentmindedly responded while occasionally glancing at Audrey.

Audrey Sutton insincerely dealt with the flattery from this group of girls in front of her, eight out of ten sentences were about Shane Warner: "That jade bracelet just now was really beautiful, Third Young Master must have bought it for you?"

"Yes, as soon as the bracelet was displayed, I thought it was so lovely, the color and pattern are really nice."

Audrey Sutton deliberately lifted her sleeve to reveal the bracelet on her wrist, though she clearly adored it, she intentionally said, "It’s okay, I told him not to buy it, but he insisted, it doesn’t quite match today’s outfit."

Upon hearing this, those jealous little girls are probably grumbling inside, yet they all smiled broadly, and Diana Dalton said, "Audrey is really lucky, even back in school there were several brothers pampering her, and now she’s married to Third Young Master, we’ve got nothing but envy."

"Yeah, we’ll never catch up even if we work hard our whole lives."

"Some people are just blessed, starting higher on the ladder than us."

"That’s what a life winner truly is."

Listening to their sarcastic banter, Audrey Sutton smiled coldly inside, not at all modestly saying, "He’s the real winner for marrying me."

Her tone carried a hint of pride.

Yet it left them unable to refute.

These people disapproved of her but couldn’t outmatch her, and Audrey Sutton felt secretly pleased.

"What’s everyone chatting about so lively?"

Audrey Sutton’s smile instantly vanished upon hearing this voice from behind.

Diana Dalton hurriedly stood up with a smile, inviting Simon Sue over, "Senior Sue, come join the chat."

Simon Sue angled himself to sit in the spot Diana Dalton vacated, presenting himself as a gentleman even amidst women.

With more people around, Audrey Sutton wasn’t worried he’d act rashly, she just played along, feigned a few words of polite chit-chat.

This kind of sarcastic conversation was truly what she disliked.

The speakers around the hall played serene music, mixed with people’s laughter and conversations, everything appeared peaceful and calm.

Initially, Shane Warner saw that Audrey Sutton was surrounded by girls, thinking if it was just verbal sparring, she was sharp-tongued and wouldn’t suffer, so he confidently followed Arthur Sutton to meet some industry seniors.

"Good evening, everyone." Clarissa Morgan’s voice came through the microphone, drawing everyone’s attention to her.

Clarissa Morgan smiled as she stood on stage, and once everyone gathered below, she continued, "Sorry to take a few minutes of your time here, my friend mentioned she accidentally misplaced a sapphire ring, I trouble you all to keep an eye out, it should be within the premises."

Upon hearing Clarissa’s words, people below began to chatter and started looking down in search.

Audrey Sutton lifted her skirt to look around her feet, suddenly catching sight of a glimmer out of the corner of her eye, soon a ring rolled over to the carpet by her feet.

She was stunned and was about to reach down to pick it up when Diana Dalton beside her snatched it up first, raising the ring high and loudly saying, "Found it! Is this the one?"

Everyone’s gaze turned here, Clarissa Morgan descended the stage, leading the woman who lost the ring to confirm, "Yes, yes, this is it, my husband brought it back from Serephina as a priceless treasure, what if it got lost?"

The lady put the ring back on her finger, Audrey Sutton originally thought this would be the end of it, but then Diana Dalton remarked, "I think I saw it fall out of Mrs. Warner’s bag just now."

After saying this, as if realizing she spoke out of turn, Diana Dalton covered her mouth with a look of shock towards Audrey Sutton.

Rumors began among the crowd: "Could it have been stolen?"

"Oh my god, no way? After all, she’s Third Young Master’s wife, it wouldn’t be such petty theft right?"

"Who knows? Some people’s hands aren’t clean, not because they lack money, but have developed a habit of helping themselves out of convenience, just love taking advantage."

Clarissa Morgan put on a facade of helping Audrey Sutton, smiling and saying to those gossiping, "It should be something Audrey picked up, as long as it’s not lost it’s fine."

Yet the ring’s owner arrogantly pointed at Audrey Sutton, "Found items need to be returned, who puts them in their own pocket like you?"

Upon hearing this, those women who had long harbored resentment towards Audrey Sutton began to scold along, "Indeed, truly shameless."

"Third Young Master marrying such a woman is truly misfortune for the family."

Audrey Sutton frowned at Diana Dalton, who had silently sided with Clarissa Morgan, watching with an amused eye as Audrey Sutton was caught in this spectacle.

Unintentional trouble finding its way.

Audrey Sutton spoke heavily, "Firstly, I haven’t taken anyone’s belongings, it’s merely a ring, my husband can afford it; secondly, for some people whose eyes exist but aren’t used, if you like telling lies, maybe donate your eyes to those who truly need them."

Shane Warner emerged from the inner hall just to find everyone gathered around, drawing closer he saw Audrey Sutton seemingly being bullied in the midst.

With long strides, he made his way through the crowd, reached behind Audrey Sutton, and gently embraced her, casting a sharp glance around those nearby, as if searching for the bully.

He bowed his head slightly, looked gently at Audrey Sutton, and softly asked her, "What’s going on?"
