Legendary Traveler: By Earning Progress Points I will Become Supreme!-Chapter 226: Not Your Average Monster Tide (2)
{'78 degrees East NorthEast brother, 18 feet above the ground, moving forward at a pace of 2.5 meters per second.'} High in the sky and near the top of the barrier, Nyria circled at a leisurely pace with her eyes focused on one of the three remaining Hobbys, as her Lord called them.
Originally, she'd believed them to be a bigger version of the smaller guys, with a slightly darker skin tone and even uglier faces; however, when Nyria had been told that these were the baddies in charge of the BIG BIG baddies, she knew then and there what the target of their attack would be.
As for how she knew the exact direction the monster was moving, well, that was thanks to a circular object held in her beak directly in front of her eyes, a Compass, one with not only the cardinal and sub-directions labeled but also numbers that she had painstakingly learned to be of better use when it comes to giving locations to Aoni.
But there is more to the story than her just learning numbers and following the compass's needle; in fact, it had been quite a challenge for Aoni even to get the damn tool to work properly; after all, magnetic poles and such basically went out the window due to the interference of Energia.

Luckily, this was a problem that Travelers over time had long since figured out; however, there was a SLIGHT problem.
These compasses only worked within a Traveler's territory and required four Communication Pylons. So long as one was within the confines of said pylons, the tool functioned just like it would on Terra.
Mind you, these four-foot-tall stone pylons weren't technologically based and instead harnessed the power of Runic Inscriptions similar to what was seen on Nodes.
With his eyes constantly looking toward the future, Aoni naturally gravitated toward such a tool because of his beloved birb. Yet, even then, it was a task and a half to create a mounting that could be held and observed by her while in flight; after all, Nyria didn't exactly have hands.
The result was similar to a horse bridle and mounting that fit over Nyria's beak and could be held steady so long as she bit down on it gently.
'78 degrees ENE, 18 feet above the ground, on the move at a little over 5 miles per hour.' Proping his left hand in finger gun mode over his right wrist, Aoni's eyes tracked the needle on his wrist-mounted compass and lined up his shot.
'They're on the far side of the peak and have changed direction to move back up the mountain toward the Fort; it seems my ruse is finally being ignored, no biggie.' Inhaling slowly and holding his breath, Aoni's arms tensed up to stop any trembling because this was going to be a LONG shot, almost a mile, in fact.
There was zero room for error either, but thankfully, unlike Terra, where things like bullet drop-off and wind could affect a fired-off sniper round, all he needed to do was add a little extra Energia, mitigating any outside factors. Thus, his shot would ring true…so long as he, you know, calculated the movement speed and distance of his target.
But that was part of Nyria's job, as his airborne spotter with eyesight leagues beyond his own.
{'Charging complete, any reaction from the target?'} He asked while wrapping up the prep phases of his large-caliber ice bullet.
{'Um, one second, it looks like one of the hobbys is looking around, and he stopped the group.'} Nyria's reply caused Aoni's heart to shudder for a moment because it meant that bastard's senses were far better than he'd given it credit for.
{'Understood. Any recalculations needed apart from movement speed?'}
Crunch crunch crunch
"om nom nom nom." In the middle of asking that question, Aoni's attention was split thanks to a certain gremlin snarfing down a family-sized bag of potato chips like they'd be taken away at a moment's notice.
"Glacia!" Aoni spat in a whispered shout, causing the floof to look up at him with watery eyes and bulging cheeks full of food.
"Put that away; we are in fight mode right now," Feeling his left eye twitching in annoyance, he watched as Glacia's head drooped, and she stored the bag of chips back in her pack before shying away in embarrassment.
{'Sworry brodder but no brekky make me hungy,'} She said through the LoS and without any of her usual gaos or oos.
"I already told you that after the battle I will cook a big breakfast in our new kitchen, four full courses, tons of food, but I need you ready to fight, not munching on snacks." Exhaling shakily, as he didn't mean to snap like that after allowing his nerves to get the better of him, Aoni knelt slightly and rubbed his knee against her shoulder as a form of petting.
{'Kayyyy, mmmm, fooods,'} hearing this, Glacia crouched down as if she were ready to pounce at any time, completely ignoring the fact she'd just been scolded.
{'Anyway, Nyria, what's the situation.'} Shaking his head helplessly, Aoni returned to the task at hand.
{'The baddies are back on the move, heading toward our Fort, but that hobby keeps looking in your direction.'}
'So he cant tell if it was real or a fluke, good to know, his perception may be high, but not so high that it could pick up my exact location.'
Resetting his stance and taking aim a second time, Aoni imagined a line cutting through all objects like a positron laser and fired.
FWOOOOMMM
Unfortunately, he underestimated his creation, and the moment the projectile tore away from his fingertip, it generated a backdraft with enough force to blast not only himself but Glacia as well off the tree branch they'd been standing on and backward several dozen feet.
"Wahhhh!" Aoni shouted while flailing his arms around like a fool, leaving Glacia to fend for herself.
"GaooOooooO!"
Of course, neither was actually hurt, and it was like getting battered by a strong gust of wind, so by the time the notification of earning points came through, he and the floof had landed on the ground without injuries… although the Glacia had transformed into a giant cotton ball as if she'd been placed under a fan after a bath.
